Chapter 1032: A Historic day (1)
All the commanders of the Bharatiya Empire who had participated in the battle against the Ottoman Empire and the European nations started to return one by one, after handing over the military defences to the newly promoted Israeli General Samuel Shapiro, who had risen through the ranks over the course of five years as he proved himself to be a great military talent during the War of Resistance for the Jewish.
It should be said that the Jews really know how to hedge risks. Although when the Kingdom of Israel was formed, many Jews did indeed immigrate to the new state, a lot of people stayed behind. But now that things are becoming more stable, more people have started to immigrate.
For the people immigrating now, the benefits are not the same as those enjoyed by the people who immigrated before the war started, yet the benefits are still attractive enough for them to shift their homes. Not to mention, Israel is closer to Europe, and given that a trade treaty has been signed, it is foreseeable that the Kingdom of Israel could become the gateway to Europe for the Bharatiya Empire.
The commanders, as soon as they returned to their posts and offices within the empire, were met with a huge surprise. It was a letter personally written by His Majesty the Emperor Vijay Devaraya asking them to submit their resignation.
Normally, such news would make them panic and worry if they had done something wrong, and even feel angry and betrayed considering all they had done for His Majesty the Emperor and the empire, but surprisingly enough, there was no sadness or anger on anyone's face. Instead, after a little longing and a look of nostalgia, it was happiness and excitement that surfaced.
Like a bolt from the blue, the news of the resignation of several important figures spread throughout the empire.
From the military, the Minister of Defence, Kiran Poojari, declared that he would not be standing for the next elections and that he would resign as minister after his term ended. Commanders Ramayya Senapathi, Yogendra Singh, Sarvesh Ranavikrama, Narasimha Nayak, and Lachit Borphukan all declared their resignations and handed over the position of commander to the next best candidate.
Even in the government, Prime Minister Vinod declared that he would be submitting his resignation after his term ended, and he would no longer be standing in the next elections, and this web of resignation even spread to the navy. The Marshall of the empire, as well as the Admiral Gangadhar, submitted his resignation, and followed by him, the commanders of Bharatiya Navy Gautam, Akhil, and Prasanna Nair, all three submitted their resignations.
Even though the people didn't know what was happening, everyone knew something was wrong. One or two people resigning could be considered a coincidence, but so many people resigning all at once, even a fool knew something was up.
The media were like sharks smelling blood, daring to sneak into ministers' houses to find out what was going on. Although most of them were caught, their actions were enough to illustrate how crazy the situation had become. Not only that, resignations began to appear in the military and the government following the resignation of the prime minister, the naval commanders, and the army commanders, which further caused a huge sensation in the empire.
Some resigned due to the uncertainty of the situation, while others simply wanted to follow the orders of their commanders.
While the empire was filled with uncertainty, the people who were most happy were the European merchants, who would love for the Bharatiya Empire to be in trouble in their hearts.
" Hahaah, this emperor of the Bharatiya Empire is really a smart man. After noticing that his generals and commanders are too powerful for their own good, he has forced them all to resign and retire, haha."
A German merchant laughed out loud. His words caused a few European merchants who understood German to chuckle, while the Bharatiyas who did not understand simply minded their job without any expression. But there were people among the merchants who understood German.
" What did you say? Say it again, I dare you." A Bharatiya man frowned angrily and came forward to grab the collar of the German who slandered His Majesty.
" What happened, brother?" The shopkeepers nearby immediately understood that the white guy just now might have said something rude.
The man gritted his teeth and repeated what the white man said, and as soon as the people realised, they were fuming with anger, and everyone came forward, clenching their fists.
The German guy, looking at how the situation had devolved, was not scared either. Instead, he grabbed the hands of the man who had his collar and swiftly snapped it away.
" What? Did I say something wrong? Is it not obvious that it is your emperor who forced all your commanders to resign, or else why would they resign at the same time?"
" Haha, you brown's can't even understand this."
" Shut up, fool!"
'Pam!'
The next moment, the white guy was hit right in the face, and he fell back down with a thud.
This immediately caused huge repercussions, as the Europeans who saw this happen couldn't stand still anymore and came forward to teach the brown guy a lesson, but the shopkeepers who saw one of their own getting ganged up on joined in the fight, and a brawl ensued.
Slippers flew, clothes were torn, screams were heart-wrenching, and the curses were of all languages. In the end, it was not until a group of policemen came and separated the brawl that the fight stopped. The police are required to follow the exact protocols to the tee, so although, after hearing the cause of the event, they did not have a good impression of the Europeans, they had to do their duty, so, along with the Europeans, they also pulled the shopkeepers into the cell for a few days as a punishment.
" Haha, you bastards, don't feel proud just because we couldn't break your turtle shell in Israel."
" Just you guys wait. Those commanders who have served the Bharatiya Empire for so long are forced to resign, and they will definitely rebel, and your empire will be embroiled in civil war, and it is at this time we will take advantage of your weakness and destroy you entirely."
The man whose tooth was broken and whose mouth was bleeding laughed maniacally and roared.
The policeman who were pulling away the hooligans and the shopkeepers who were caught by the policemen all changed their expression and clenched their fists in anger. If not for the fact that their hands and feet were tied up, one by the law and one literally, they would like to go ahead and give a few punches and kicks to the guy's pig face.
However, sadly, although what the European guys said was hateful, it did make a lot of sense to the people. How would those legendary commanders like Sarvesh Ranavikrama, who had one-handedly infiltrated into large cities and broken it from within and conquered it almost by himself, or Minister Kiran Poojari, who was the Iron Bastion that protected the whole empire from the invasion of the Mughal Empire, react when they are asked to resign?
A Sense of worry couldn't help but emerge not only in the city of Thiruvananthapuram, the place of the incident, but all over the empire.
Vijay was looking at all this with emotionless eyes. He was getting constant reports from the Bharatiya Internal Pragya, and more importantly, from the Royal Intelligence Bureau.
In fact, he could have avoided the whole situation by making the news clear about what would happen to these great individuals who all have the Rank of a king, but he chose otherwise because he thought that this was the best opportunity to do two things at once.
First, it was an opportunity for the titled Kings to pull the staunch loyalists to their side, so that Vijay wouldn't have to worry about these commanders who are about to go to their own territories influencing the Bharatiya Empire through their loyalists.
And the second is another purge of the foreign spies and corrupted politicians, businessmen, and soldiers in the empire. It is in times of chaos that these worms, both inside and outside, show themselves; or else it will be very hard to catch them.
However, there is a problem with the decision he has taken, and that is if this goes on for too long, the Europeans might really take advantage of the situation and launch a full-scale attack on Israel. He is not foolish enough to think that the treaty alone would be able to stop those Western European countries.
So it is for this exact reason that he had mobilised all the resources of both the intelligence organisations, one known to the public and one unknown, decisively invested over 50 million Varaha to buy as many favours, bribe as many little shrimp as possible, in order to catch their bosses, the large sharks.
Overnight, it was as if the sky in the Bharatiya Empire had changed. The much dreaded day of purge had come so suddenly, and it came at an unexpected time.
And this type of purge also came to the Election Nobility and Examination Council, the premier organisation of the empire responsible for anti-corruption, and amazingly enough, there were several people who were found to be corrupt, and searching through their network, a huge net of corruption was found in the government.
The next morning, the situation of the government was noticeable to almost anyone, and it was not because the people realised what had happened yesterday, but they felt the whole aura of the government as a whole had become somewhat frightened, like a lost puppy shivering in a box. As for the government, they were once again reminded that their emperor was still alive and well, cross the line and expect to disappear without anyone knowing what happened.
After all this, Vijay finally made a public statement announcing a ceremony that would be held in the parliament grounds. They did not realise what the ceremony was for, but they still figured out that it might be an explanation for the resignation that took place in the last few days.
