Chapter 207: Ch 207: An amazing offer - Part 3
"B-Boss, what are you saying? You cannot promise something like that…what would happen to me? I gave up so much for this town. My life has been spent caring for this place, so how can you promise this place to someone else?
How is that even fair to me?"
John asked in a scared and angry voice.
Eyes that had looked at Layla with benevolence and amazement until now suddenly looked angry. John was no longer her ally but an energy she needed to defend herself against.
'What a headache. I can tell that this was Adam's plan all along. He wanted to paint me as the enemy in this leader's eyes so that he could control this man.'
Adam had gotten even more shrewd since Layla had not seen him, and she would have totally let Luna ruin his face and body, but she caught her desire at the last second and locked it up.
Irritating or not, Adam was still the male protagonist who, because of the original story, had a halo of protection around him.
Logic told Layla that a dragon would not lose to a human due to their difference in power, but the same logic also told her that this was a world of magic and anything could happen when they were in there.
People could die for simply misinterpreting the main leads, and Layla, as a minor villain, was no exception.
'Let's not complicate things more than I have to. I should keep myself in check and back off when I am not needed.'
Layla sighed before taking a step forward and giving a small but formal bow, which showed that she accepted this mission.
"I shall fight this battle. But I hope I will get my promised reward."
The voice-changing spell did its job, making it impossible to guess who was behind Layla's helmet.
"Of course! I always keep my word, no matter what. If you partner with me, then there is no way you would feel disappointed."
The man promised, and Layla almost let out a laugh.
To that end, her character chased after this fool in the original story and even liked him to the degree that she died for him. But Layla is not someone who would do that.
An alliance might be the closest thing she would come to form with these main characters. They had their world to live in, and Layla had her own.
The original novel's contents were likely to start soon, and Layla needed to find a way back before the real danger arrived to fight against them.
...
"I-It is another win for the man in black. Is there no one else left who can defeat him?"
The anchor asked as he looked at the constants. They were all either shaken up or had already lost in front of the 'Ronald Smith' who lifted his sword to show how powerful he was.
He was a figure who evoked fear in people and was proud of it. He was certain he would win against anyone, so he was not afraid of being challenged.
Just when it felt like he had won and no one was left to challenge him, the participant from the first round stepped into the ring.
People gasped once more as the two unexpected people faced each other.
"Y-Y-Young man! What do you think you are doing? You might have fluked your way to victory during your first fight, but this man is too strong. Do you want to die?"
The anchor asked in a worried voice.
After seeing the massacre that occurred, the anchor was worried about anyone willing to step into the ring and face this lunatic. He was sure it would be a slaughter fest, no matter what happened.
"It will be fine. I don't think I should feel worried about it. I am here to challenge everyone, and that includes a mass-murdered."
Layla assured the anchor, but he still looked worried.
Before he could interfere more and cause more trouble for himself, the possible Ronaldo stepped forward and swung his sword at the anchor. Layla blocked that sword with a small dagger she kept on her, and it caused sparks to fly.
Seeing that Layla was not intimidated and could hold her own against this man, the anchor finally got away and decided that getting involved in this fight was not worth it.
"W-Well, if both sides do not have a problem, we shall start this fight. On the mark of three, we shall start-"
The anchor tried to regain momentum but was forgotten when the pair clashed again. Their swords clung to each other as the pair tried to battle each other off.
Layla was just playing around and not taking this fight seriously, but she could tell her opponent meant business. His blows were heavy, and his sword felt impactful when it tried to force her into submission.
"You should be a little more careful about how you play with me. I am a fragile person. What would happen if you were to hurt me too badly?"
Layla asked with a smile in her voice, but she did not get a reply back. Instead, the man pushed her back further until her back hit the wall. And then he motioned to impale her on his sword.
It was then that Layla decided that it was enough playing around. She broke that hold and pulled that rusty sword out of her inventory before she parried Ronaldo's sword out of his hand.
People gasped as they watched this miracle happen, and suddenly, Layla's win did not look like a fluke anymore.
"I did not mean to do this, but you left me no choice since the start. Now, shall we take this more seriously, mister imposter? Did you think no one would notice the dozens of magic spells you carry on your person?"
Layla asked, and her words must have hit a nerve because the next thing she knew, that man detonated a spell to kill her.
