Chapter 140: Just a feeling
[Shadow-spawn beast Lv.7]
-Razor-Sharp Claws: The monster has deadly claws capable of tearing through flesh and armor with ease, making it a dangerous close-combat opponent.
- Lashing Tendrils: The monster possesses multiple tendrils that can extend and lash out at its enemies, inflicting damage and potentially ensnaring them.
- Malleable Body: The monster's body is highly adaptable, allowing it to absorb and dissipate some of the impact from attacks, making it more resilient to damage.
- Leeching Tendrils: The monster can use its tendrils to drain energy from its opponents, weakening them while it replenishes its own strength.
- Eerie Screech: The monster can emit a deafening screech that disorients and temporarily stuns its opponents, making it harder for them to focus and react to its attacks.
-Frenzied Fury: ???
It was not an easy monster at all, it was almost at the peak of rank 2 and it has multiple lethal abilities. The monster was obscured by strange shadows but it looked like a mutated werewolf. Not to mention the pure physical power it exuded.
As Esdras and Celine stepped forward, the malformed monster let out a deafening roar that shook the very ground they stood on. It lunged at them, its razor-sharp claws and lashing tendrils aimed to tear them apart. Esdras and Celine, however, were prepared for the onslaught.
Celine quickly summoned a powerful gust of wind, pushing the creature back and giving them some space to strategize. They knew they needed to combine their powers effectively to stand a chance against this formidable foe.
While Celine focused on controlling the wind and water, Esdras wielded his mastery over fire and earth. Celine whipped up a whirlwind around the creature, slowing its movements and making it harder for it to attack them. At the same time, she tried to create a barrier of water, but her concentration faltered, and the barrier collapsed.
Esdras noticed Celine's difficulty and quickly created a wall of flames, temporarily keeping the monster at bay. However, the creature was relentless, using its lashing tendrils to strike at the duo, managing to graze Celine's arm.
Celine attempted to retaliate, summoning a torrent of water to strike the monster. However, her control over the water wavered, causing the attack to miss its mark. The monster took advantage of her mistake, using its leeching tendrils to drain some of her mana, leaving her visibly weakened.
Esdras recognized the dire situation they were in and shouted at Celine, "You need to retreat, Celine! You're out of mana! I'll hold it off as long as I can!"
He almost forgot, not everyone had the same absurd level of mana as him and Celine fought for much longer it was only natural that she would be exhausted. Although it was a problem to lose a teammate in the midst of a battle Esdras was confident he could handle it.
Despite her frustration, Celine knew Esdras was right. She nodded and began to fall back, trying to regain her strength and recover some mana. Esdras, now alone against the monstrous foe, braced himself for the intense battle that lay ahead.
Esdras maintained a cool head, knowing that he had to carefully observe and understand the mutated werewolf's abilities in order to find an opening.
As he kept up his defensive stance, the werewolf relentlessly attacked, utilizing its tendrils and remaining limbs to their fullest extent. Despite his best efforts, Esdras found himself being pushed back and sustaining injuries.
In an attempt to gain the upper hand, the werewolf unleashed its Unstable Regeneration ability, rapidly regrowing its severed tendrils. This only served to make the creature more unpredictable and dangerous, as each new tendril lashed out with increased ferocity.
These attacks weren't just empty gestures, this monster could tear through a tank with ease, not to mention the speed that outclassed his own. Each hit he deflected produced a terrible ringing in the air as if it was torn.
The mountain hall around them began to show signs of the intense battle. Stone pillars cracked and crumbled under the force of the werewolf's attacks, and the ground shook as the two combatants clashed.
Dust and debris filled the air, making it difficult for Esdras to maintain visibility and focus.
However, Esdras was not just a mage but also a powerful knight, possessing superhuman strength, vitality, and agility. He summoned his metallic slime, which could change shape according to his will.
As the werewolf continued its assault, Esdras skillfully combined his elemental magic with his martial arts prowess, effectively turning the tide of the battle.
He made use of the Vigor he didn't use so far to take the initiative and slashed an arc that exploded upwards from the center. But it was not enough as the monster used the strange shadows and it's absorption abi
At one point, the werewolf activated its Shockwave Roar ability, releasing a deafening sound that echoed throughout the mountain hall. The force of the roar was enough to shatter nearby stone formations, sending shards flying in every direction. Esdras quickly used his wind magic to deflect the debris, protecting himself from the potentially lethal projectiles.
The werewolf lunged forward with its tendrils, attempting to ensnare Esdras with its Leeching Tendrils ability. He countered by manipulating his metallic slime to create a shield, deflecting the tendrils. With expert precision, he then used a combination of fire and wind magic to sever several of the tendrils, leaving the werewolf howling in pain.
Esdras pressed his advantage, using his earth magic to create a solid foothold and launching himself towards the werewolf. With a powerful swing, he combined his superhuman strength with his metallic slime, transforming it into a sharp blade. The strike connected, cleaving off one of the werewolf's arms.
This sudden loss enraged the werewolf, causing it to go berserk and activate its Frenzied Fury ability, increasing its speed and aggression. The mountain hall trembled as the werewolf's rampage intensified, further damaging the already unstable environment.
Esdras steeled himself for the creature's inevitable retaliation, knowing that the battle was far from over.
As the werewolf entered its berserk state, the mountain hall trembled even more violently under the sheer force of its Frenzied Fury. Esdras, now familiar with the creature's abilities, prepared to strike with everything he had. He knew that he could use the werewolf's loss of rationality to his advantage, exploiting its blind rage and reckless attacks.
The werewolf's movements became increasingly erratic, its tendrils lashing out wildly in all directions. Sensing an opportunity, Esdras nimbly dodged the frenzied onslaught, using his agility to evade the sharp tendrils and bared teeth.
He combined his elemental powers, creating a torrent of fire, water, wind, and earth that encircled him, protecting him from the werewolf's attacks and enhancing his own offensive capabilities.
As the werewolf lunged at him, Esdras leaped into the air, propelled by a gust of wind. He called upon his metallic slime, which morphed into a massive, razor-sharp spear. Channeling his elemental powers into the weapon, it glowed with a brilliant, multi-colored light.
With a roar of determination, Esdras hurled the spear towards the werewolf as it charged at him, blinded by its own rage. That simple-minded charge was it's undoing.
The spear found its mark, piercing the creature's chest and pinning it to the crumbling wall of the mountain hall. The force of the impact shook the very foundation of the chamber, causing cracks to spread rapidly across the stone surfaces.
The werewolf let out a guttural cry of pain, its berserk state momentarily faltering. Esdras seized this chance, launching a final, devastating combination attack. He summoned a powerful vortex of fire, engulfing the werewolf in searing flames.
The life force of these things were truly terrifying, if it had enough time it might have been able to recover. He had to make sure that never happened.
Simultaneously, he commanded the earth to rise, forming sharp spikes that pierced the creature's body from all angles. Lastly, a torrential whirlwind and a crushing wave of water slammed into the werewolf, extinguishing the flames and washing away the remains of the once-terrifying monster.
As the dust settled, Esdras stood in the center of the devastated mountain hall, his chest heaving from the exertion.
The werewolf, now reduced to a lifeless, battered husk, served as a testament to Esdras's incredible power and determination. Although he didn't get to learn any spells yet, he was not sitting around doing nothing all this time.
If he found Ilundar Sunspear now he wouldn't mind capturing that two-faced bastard.
He found Celine meditating behind one of the fallen pillars, she was accelerating the process of restoring her mana with a mana stone. Esdras wanted to talk to her now but he decided to let her finish first as it wasn't good manners to interrupt meditation.
It was frowned upon, unless it was done in case of emergencies.
Esdras looked around in the meantime, this place was a mountain hall similar to ones built by dwarves, it had seen better days. A part of him was hoping it was another dungeon but it wasn't.
Celine opened her eyes only a few minutes later, clearly she was just hastily recovering her mana to get back in the fight as soon as possible.
"Eh?"
"Well, you took your sweet time." Esdras laughed at her confused face and then she laughed too.
"So, do you want ti tell me how you got here and what this place is?"
Celine's laughter died at his question and it was replaced with a difficult look.
"Well, I am not sure what this place is, I just got in to explore when I got ambushed by those monsters and then you…"
Esdras nodded, that made sense, "how did you discover this place anyway? It was hidden by an intricate magic formation."
"I don't know… I just… just had a feeling."
'A feeling?'
