Reborn as God: The strongest system

Chapter 139: Trouble ahead

It couldn't have been more than 10 minutes in which he crossed over half of the plains of Unworthy death. He could have went over to the beacon tower of he wanted.

However, this thought did not cross his mind as he dashed through everything to his destination without rest.

Finally he stopped. Esdras looked around, this was the northwest of the Rite grounds and right by the plateau cliff, there was nothing behind it but rocky mountains. This was the end of the plains of the Unworthy death.

Yet, he didn't see Celine. This is where her tracking stone was last before she disappeared. Roughly. And yet there was nothing here. Not even a trace of a battle or anything of the sort.

Esdras suspected that the tracking stone just broke in the middle of a heated battle or maybe Celine lost it by mistake. She was after all, clumsy at times.

Celine knew how important the stone was and wouldn't discard it by intentionally.

Rather than panic Esdras chose to calm down and unleashed his spirit energy in the area as dangerous as that was he didn't care about a small backlash since he ignited his first lantern of negative energy.

He could only do something to search through such a wide area for a minute at most but that was enough for him to find clues.

He was able to find the residue of the spirit energy he left in the tracking stone. Esdras followed the traces and recreate where Celine was exactly before the signal was cut off.

In the end he frowned, he was just facing the sheer cliff wall of the plateau. Did Celine climb up there? But that wouldn't explain why the signal was cut off either.

"Hey, what's this? What did you find here?"

Suddenly he was surprised as the pharaoh started talking to him without any warning.

"What do you mean? I didn't find anything!"

"Idiot, see that rock there? Grab it any pull downwards."

Esdras was too occupied to retort he just grabbed a rick protruding from the wall right in front of him and pulled at it, to his shock the rock slid down the wall like zipper.

Cold winds suddenly blew out of the crack and sinister blue light engulfed the area and the surroundings. Esdras frowned, the sides of the cliff wall were flapping in the wind revealing a dimly lit tunnel.

Celine was in here, and he could hear explosions and tremors, he could feel the mana fluctuations of an intense battle between powerful creatures.

Esdras narrowed his eyes, how could he not have felt something like this happening besides him.

"A formation…"

Esdras quickly realized that this hidden tunnel must have been protected by some sort of concealment magic or barrier, which had effectively masked the intense battle and mana fluctuations happening inside.

It was clear now that Celine was in danger, and he couldn't afford to waste any more time.

With his heart pounding in his chest, Esdras stepped into the tunnel, his sword at the ready. The cold winds and eerie blue light only served to heighten the sense of urgency and unease he felt as he ventured deeper into the hidden passage. The sounds of explosions and fierce combat grew louder, urging him on.

As he continued, Esdras couldn't help but wonder who or what Celine was fighting against.

Was it an enemy from the Rite, or something far more sinister lurking within the depths of the tunnel? His concern for her safety only grew as he considered the possibilities.

As far as he was aware, such a place did not exist within the rite, could it be some kind of hidden factor?

However, it's only took him a minute to shake his head? Magic formations were extremely valuable How could the tower waste one here? Or over it was very useful, as it could conceal not only the site of a place, but even the energy and wind in an area.

Finally, he reached the source of the noise and chaos. The sight that greeted him was one of devastation and destruction.

Celine was fighting against a giant, green spider and the giant armored worm. The corpse of another giant spider lay destroyed to the side and several destroyed stone columns littered the place.

However, behind them at the other end of the stone hall, there was a creature sitting on its own, watching the battle impassively.

The creature was unlike anything Esdras had ever seen. It had a twisted, malformed body, with sharp claws and multiple eyes that glowed with an ominous blue light.

He thought about ambushing that creature first, but the distance between them was too great for an ambush to work, and it might even distract Celine, who was fighting two rank 2 creatures.

And she was holding her own.

She even took care of one of the spiders on her own. Celine focused her water and wind magic to create a vortex of swirling water that she launched towards the giant green spider. The torrent of water slammed into the creature, momentarily disorienting it and giving Celine some much-needed breathing room.

Esdras had yet to reveal himself not because he didn't want to help but because he was also confused about many things.

How was Celine doing so well? Esdras knew that she was powerful but not to this extent. Especially since she didn't have much practical experience.

Not only that, Celine was a pure mage unlike Esdras who could count on his body to fight in close range while dodging the enemy's attack.

However, Celine had a sort of shadow cloak over her that glimmered every once in a while allowing her to evade fatal attacks and even maneuver against the giant spider while fighting on the roof.

This was a bizarre spell that he didn't even know about.

Anyway, he could always ask her later. First thing first.

Meanwhile, Esdras concentrated his elemental powers, combining fire and earth to create molten projectiles that he hurled at the giant armored worm.

Celine was alarmed and looked in his direction at which point he gave her a grin and a reassuring nod. In the midst of battle there was no time to exchange words but that was enough.

The searing heat began to soften the creature's armored exterior, but its immense size and strength made it an incredibly challenging foe.

The worm retaliated by using its ability to burrow through the ground at incredible speed, bursting forth from beneath Esdras and nearly catching him off-guard. Esdras managed to dodge just in time, his powerful legs propelling him into the air to avoid the creature's surprise attack.

While Esdras engaged the worm, Celine took advantage of the spider's disorientation, summoning a gust of wind to propel herself towards the creature. She swiftly closed the distance between them, her water magic forming a razor-sharp blade around her arm. With a powerful swipe, she aimed to sever one of the spider's many legs.

The battle raged on, the earthen hall echoing with the sounds of elemental magic and the roars of the monstrous creatures. Esdras and Celine fought with everything they had, their teamwork and determination driving them to push their limits.

Esdras unleashed a powerful blast of fire towards the giant armored worm, catching it off-guard and causing it to screech in pain. When the worm tried to dive into the ground it bounced back as he had already hardened the earth in preparation for such a response.

Then with an earth stomp he skewered the giant worm with four earthen spikes breaking its battered armor in the process and he finished it off with Ignition, burning it just to make sure it was dead.

He didn't bother to waste time as he turned around to help Celine.

Celine redirected her wind magic to create a tornado that engulfed the green spider, trapping it in a whirlwind of air and debris. The spider's webs were torn down and so it chose to ignore the damage and attack through the tornado.

This caught Celine off guard and the spider was about to eat her in one fell swoop but Celine summoned water torrents and shot them into the maw of the spider, almost softly.

Before blowing the water up inside the spider causing its insides to splatter everywhere.

As the dust settled and the lifeless forms of the giant worm and spider lay defeated, Esdras and Celine took a moment to catch their breath.

They looked at each other, their eyes reflecting a mixture of relief and determination. Despite their exhaustion, they knew they still had to face the malformed monster that awaited them.

"You fought well, Celine," Esdras said, his voice filled with admiration and concern. "Are you alright? Can you keep going?"

Esdras was aware thing was not the time for questioning and whatnot, they had to take care of this thing first.

Celine nodded, her expression resolute. "I'm fine, Esdras. I won't let this thing stop us. We'll defeat it together, just like we did with the others."

Esdras smiled, his own determination bolstered by Celine's unwavering courage. "You're right. We've come this far; we won't back down now. We'll face this monster together, and we'll come out victorious."

They exchanged a brief, reassuring glance before turning their attention to the malformed creature that had been observing their battle. The creature's multiple eyes glowed with an ominous blue light, and it seemed to be analyzing them, searching for any sign of weakness.

Esdras and Celine stood side by side, ready to face this new challenge. They knew that their combined power had seen them through the previous battles, and they trusted in their ability to work together to bring down this final foe.

With renewed strength and determination, they stepped forward, their elemental magic crackling around them as they prepared for the intense battle that lay ahead.
