Reborn as an Extra with the SSS-Divine Debt System and my Past Skills

Chapter 100: Ch 100: Treasure Hunt - Part 3

The junkyard stretched on like a metallic wasteland. Broken machines, shattered weapons, rusted steel, and jagged heaps of old tech loomed in every direction.

Sparks from salvage tools flickered here and there as Lucius's chosen engineers pried parts loose.

Jamie kept her weapon casually propped against her shoulder, scanning the shadows. Mira kept an eye on both the workers and the monsters circling the perimeter.

Lucius, meanwhile, felt something pulling at him.

It wasn't a sound or a visible sign—just an insistent tug in his chest, one that seemed tied to the static buzzing faintly in his system. Without realizing it, he began following it.

Every step led him deeper, away from the salvage group, toward a quiet pocket of junk piled high like walls. He paused only when the static became unbearable.

And there it was.

A small device sat wedged between collapsed plating, its surface cracked but glowing faintly with pale gold light. Its pulse wasn't random.

It throbbed like a heartbeat, radiating waves of divine energy that stung his skin.

Lucius narrowed his eyes.

"So this is what's hiding here."

He crouched low, studying it. To his senses, it was like a compressed bomb—divinity condensed unnaturally into a fragile shell.

The longer it pulsed, the sharper the waves became, vibrating against his own mana.

The system chimed, distorted and broken:

[Warning—divinity anomaly detected… unstable energy signature… probability of detonation: 87%]

Lucius's lips pressed into a thin line. He turned his head toward the engineers nearby, who were still scavenging among the junk.

"Stay away from this place. Don't even look at it."

One of the men glanced up nervously but nodded quickly, retreating to the others. They obeyed, though their hands trembled as if they felt the energy too.

Lucius stayed for another few seconds, watching the device carefully. The pulses were coming faster now, building. His instincts screamed at him.

He straightened abruptly.

"Enough. Everyone out. Now."

Mira snapped her head toward him.

"What—?"

"Run! Get across the gate before it's too late!"

His voice cracked like a whip.

That was all it took.

Panic surged through the group, and they dropped tools, abandoned crates, and sprinted toward the junkyard entrance.

Lucius stayed at the rear, shepherding them out with bursts of mana to keep the circling monsters at bay. The pulses grew harsher, hammering against his bones.

They cleared the gate by mere seconds.

The world behind them lit up.

A deafening explosion tore through the yard, flames and light bursting into the sky.

The ground shook as mountains of scrap collapsed like dominoes, crashing down with metallic shrieks. A choking cloud of smoke and dust rose, covering the horizon.

Everyone fell to the ground, shielding their heads.

When it was over, silence stretched for several heartbeats.

Only the echo of destruction remained.

Jamie was the first to speak, voice tight.

"What the hell was that?"

Lucius's gaze lingered on the smoking ruin.

"A trap. And we almost walked right into it. Jamie. Find Luna and Verus. They're trailing us."

He turned, eyes sharp.

He said flatly.

Jamie raised a brow but didn't question him. She just gave a mocking salute.

"On it, boss."

She strode to the edge of the clearing, where a faint shimmer flickered—the camouflage Luna had hastily conjured.

Jamie smirked, lifted her gun, and fired. The shot cracked open the concealment spell like glass shattering, and Luna was suddenly exposed, crouching with Verus at her side.

Luna's eyes widened, then narrowed into a glare.

"You—! You'll have to drag me kicking and screaming. I'm not leaving!"

She stomped forward, fists balled.

Jamie only grinned wider.

"I've done worse."

She extended her hand, grabbed Luna by the wrist, and with a sharp tug yanked her forward. Luna stumbled into her grip, struggling hard.

"Let go! You too. Don't make me shoot the ground out from under your feet."

She shouted, twisting violently. But Jamie's hold was unrelenting, her grin infuriatingly calm. She jerked her chin at Verus.

Verus sighed, resigned.

"Fine. I'll follow."

Lucius finally approached, his eyes briefly settling on Luna. She froze mid-struggle when she caught his gaze. Heat crept to her cheeks.

"Enough."

Lucius said simply. His tone carried no anger, but the weight of his authority made Luna's protests shrivel.

She looked away, lips pressed tight, embarrassed by her behavior.

"It's… unfair."

She muttered under her breath.

Jamie snickered.

"Life's unfair, sweetheart. Get used to it."

Lucius ignored Jamie's teasing. He placed a hand briefly on Luna's shoulder.

"Behave. I'll be back soon."

Luna's eyes widened at the quiet reassurance, but before she could say anything more, Jamie hauled her toward the others.

She gave Verus a sharp nod, and together they began leading the group farther from the danger zone.

Lucius stood still, watching them disappear into the distance. For a fleeting moment, he allowed himself a small exhale of relief. They were safe—for now.

Then his gaze shifted back to the smoldering wreckage of the junkyard. The divine energy hadn't vanished. If anything, it was stronger, seeping like poison into the air.

He rolled his shoulders, straightened his back, and stepped into the ruins alone.

The deeper Lucius stepped into the collapsed junkyard, the more the air seemed to warp.

The divine residue clung to his skin, burning faintly as though trying to reject his very existence. Every shard of twisted metal hummed, resonating with leftover energy from the blast.

He stopped before a massive crater where the bomb had been. At its center, half-buried in ash, something glimmered faintly—a shard of white crystal, pulsing with a rhythm not unlike a heartbeat.

Lucius narrowed his eyes. It wasn't destroyed in the explosion. If anything, it had survived deliberately, as if shielded.

The system crackled in his head again, the words half-broken but chilling all the same:

[Warning—divinity anchor detected… external interference… hostile intent approaching.]

Lucius's lips curved faintly.

"So this wasn't just a trap. Someone left a message here. But for whom? And why?"

And he intended to fine out exactly this.
