Reborn As An Extra In My Own Novel

Chapter 109: Since This Isn't Reality [2]

The rest of the day went by rather quickly, and Kai had the most fun he'd ever experienced in his life—not just in this one, but in his previous life as well.

From Reni's story, he knew the world was going to end soon, so he couldn't afford to waste time on anything that wasn't productive to his and Reni's relationship.

From the café that sat on an expensive street, to a large shopping mall, to a boutique, they visited every single place that could be considered a date.

After what Kai called the first level, the two headed over to an aquarium then watched a series he slept through halfway.

But their adventure didn't stop there. Using her money and the fact that she could control most of the laws within her soul sea, they did several diabolical things like making a man without arms itch or causing someone to trip when they tried to look cool.

The two even went as far as buying an entire street and making everyone who stood in it stop and wait for them to dance around. After the stressful day, they decided to end the fun with a bit of amusement park excitement.

They tried out every single one of the park's attractions, and as they came out of the Ferris wheel, the world began to darken as drizzles of rain fell to the ground.

Kai smiled as he and Reni rushed over to a small bar several steps away.

As if the rain had been waiting for them, the sky cried, and the raindrops bounced off the ground, lightly touching their feet.

Kai shifted his gaze from the sky to Reni, who was shivering slightly. He removed his blazer and draped it over her shoulders, then wrapped his arm around her.

His cheeks were flushed red, and his body slightly pale; his cold body was beginning to warm under the soft touch of her skin. Reni gave a soft smile. "This reminds me of when we entered Deerheart's lab. You remember, right?"

Kai nodded. "It wasn't that long ago."

Reni hesitated for a moment. "Darling… do you want to run under the rain?"

Kai didn't speak or respond to her words.

To him, rain was like his worst enemy. Each time he went out in the rain on Earth, he would break out in rashes. But maybe, just maybe, things would be different now that he could use mana.

Kai smiled softly, then held her hand. "Why not."

Reni's eyes widened with delight, then she tightened her grip on his arm as if to declare to the world that he belonged to her.

She ran ahead of him, leading the way into the one thing he still subtly dreaded.

The feeling of the rain striking against his body was soaking. He expected to lose his breath because of the water constantly trickling down from his now-loosened hair, but it didn't feel that strange.

He took a step forward as Reni let go of his hand and ran ahead. She then extended her hand again once she was meters away from the shelter.

Kai stared at her, his gaze softening with each passing second. He took one step at a time as if shedding the skin of his past life.

As if letting go of who Cha Jin-sung was and embracing his identity as Kaiser Vanguard.

With steady steps, Kai gradually increased his pace, then grabbed her hand. Reni pulled with all her strength, causing his feet to splash up water that had pooled beneath them.

An old man who stood outside the shelter screamed at the top of his lungs. "YOU BRATS! SEE WHAT YOU DID TO ME!" He then gripped his bald head tightly. "MY MILLION MELTON SUIT!"

Kai and Reni burst into laughter and ran away from the scene as the clearly furious man stormed out of the shelter, trying to catch them.

Kai couldn't stop laughing as they ran down the empty street. They didn't even know where they were headed under the heavy downpour, but all they knew was that they were moving.

"Hey!" Reni yelled out, trying to make her voice audible through the rain. "I love you!"

Kai's face burned red. Not just from the fever building up from the rain, but from the sheer absurdity of the situation.

Reni let out a wide smile, her entire face pure red. Her palms were both wet and soft. Her eyes, which had seemed so dark when he first entered this world, now lit up.

She nudged him with her shoulder, making him stumble slightly, then bent a little, her grip on his arm tightening. "I said I love you, okay?" She grinned again.

Kai couldn't even respond at that point. He tried to use his other hand to cover his face, but Reni's pouting expression made him withdraw it without realizing.

He closed his eyes tightly for a moment, then replied, "I love you too!"

Reni narrowed her eyes. "How much so?"

Kai looked away. "I can't say it now…" He sneezed. "I think I might've caught a cold."

Reni giggled. "Weak!"

After running a bit more under the rain, the two of them found a nearby hotel and checked in.

According to the receptionist, it was a place where friends and couples could have fun, and it was exactly as she said.

Manga, manhwa, web novels, a large TV, and a compact kitchen—everything you could ever want.

After arriving, Kai and Reni took their separate baths and wore the casual clothes provided in their wardrobe.

Reni tended to Kai a little—giving him medicine and placing a cooling gel sheet on his forehead.

After that, he stepped into the kitchen.

"I'll make hot soup, with a few side dishes."

The hotel resembled a Korean-Japanese hybrid house. Well, they could both tell from the name. So, just like in a Japanese one-bedroom apartment, everything happening in the kitchen could be seen from the main room.

Reni leaned on the small kitchen unit and smiled at Kai as he poured in the ingredients.

"Cooking is boring…" he said, turning to her. "So I think it would be better for—"

Kai's words were cut off by a sharp sting in his eyes, as the soup he was stirring splashed into them. Reni, already close by, rushed over and cupped his face, a concerned look on her face.

"Do you want to injure yourself?" She gently blew on his eyes, though he wasn't crying or shouting in the slightest.

He smiled, then wrapped his arms around her waist. "Is that so?"

Reni frowned. "You just injured yourself."

Kai smiled. "I know."

She shook her head. "Okay, since you're not seriously hurt, back to the food."

He saluted. "Yes, ma'am."

Kai turned back to the food and began stirring again, then stretched out his hand without speaking, and Reni passed him the next ingredient.

"Hey, darling," she called.

"Hmm…"

Reni leaned on the counter. "Do you want to know what happened in the royal court when I was five?"

Kai raised a brow. "You can remember when you were five?"

She nodded confidently. "Yeah, I can." She smiled. "My dad woke up that day thinking he'd lost an arm."

"How did that happen?"

Reni paused in thought, then answered. "You know how my mom is a Prana user and she can split things, and join things together…"

Kai nodded.

"Well, that day, we decided to prank my dad."

Reni continued telling Kai stories from her childhood, tales of what had happened since she came here, and various private details no one else knew.

They laughed, chatted—though she did most of the talking while he listened to every word.

Soon after, he finished preparing their modest meal, and they both sat on the bed and quickly devoured their food.

Kai leaned back, resting his weight on his arms. "That was good."

Reni leaned against his arm and closed her eyes. "Thanks for the meal."

He smiled, using one hand to tuck her loose hair behind her ear.

The room fell silent for a moment before he spoke, his tone a bit serious. "Hey, Reni…"

The princess opened her eyes, and he continued. "I want to tell you something."

She raised a brow.

Kai stared into her eyes, then continued. "I feel like I shouldn't be hiding anything from you."

She waited patiently for him to go on. "I'm a transmigrator."

Her expression darkened slightly, but she didn't move away.

Kai began explaining his true identity: how the name he was called in school was his real name, his past life, his origin, the weavers and how their world was his novel—and she, a minor character.

Reni accepted his words with surprising ease. She was shocked, but didn't react the way Kai had expected. Instead, she sank deeper into his chest and said, "I'm happy you told me."

Kai was a little confused by her reaction. "Are you really okay with it?"

Reni raised her head and brushed back his loose hair. "You told me, didn't you?" She pulled his hair further back, as if wanting to tie it without a hairband. "So I'm happy either way."

Kai felt like he could cry. 'Why is she beautiful and considerate at the same time? Pick one so you won't kill me.'

His face turned red as his lips moved closer to hers. But as if to tell him to quit it, a loud thunderclap struck, snapping them both out of their trance.

Reni wrapped her arms around his, as if scared of the thunder and the darkness spreading outside.

She tightened her hold on him and squeezed his arm. Kai raised his hand and patted her head, gently brushing her hair like a child's.

"I love you, Jin-sung!"

"Huh?" Kai asked in confusion.

She paused, then said, "I just thought I should say my feelings to Cha Jin-sung, not Kaiser Vanguard, in case you try to use that as an excuse to cheat."

She closed her eyes, ready to fall asleep on his arm.

A moment later, another bolt of lightning lit up the already glowing room.

With her face buried in his arm, she murmured, "Do you want to lie on the bed together?"

Kai opened his half-closed eyes, then nodded like a baby being called by his mother.

Reni let go of his arm and climbed into the bed, covering herself with the blanket and opening it slightly for him to join her.

Kai slowly crawled into the bed, stopping as soon as his head aligned with her chest.

Reni wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling his face close to her bosom.

Both of their faces were red, but the bed was undeniably warm and comforting. They didn't even notice the next thunderclap.

Kai took in a deep breath and muttered, "Reni…"

Reni lowered her head a little to catch a glimpse of his pale lilac eyes. "Hmm… darling?"

"Should I tell you something that just came into my mind?"

She nodded.

She exhaled softly. "You know, you were just a character behind my screen few weeks ago, a minor role I wrote out of convenience. But now, here I am… in your arms. It's ironic, isn't it? I feel for my own creation."

Reni said nothing, just listened to him.

He smiled, cuddling her like a baby. "But you know? I can't even call you a creation anymore. You're not exactly pixels or dialogue boxes anymore."

He looked up at her, the bedsheet shifting slightly. "You're Frieren Hohenzollern—the woman I love and care about."

Reni rested her chin on his hair. "I love you too." She paused. "Tomorrow, I want to show you something."

"Something?"

She nodded. "I think it's about time we go back home and end this nightmare."
