Chapter 230: Chapter 230: Car Crash
The young hacker nearly had his titanium-plated eyes blinded by Rick's wealth. He mumbled, "You may not care about making three or four million dollars, but I do. If I can get that much, I could upgrade all my computers to top-of-the-line gear. It would make hacking so much easier..."
Seeing the stubborn hacker, whose only thought after getting money was to upgrade his computer, Castle couldn't help but laugh. He asked, "So if you get money, you only want to upgrade your computer? Don't you want to buy a supercar or find a girlfriend?"
The hacker looked puzzled, "Didn't I tell you I get dizzy behind the wheel? And girlfriends aren't as fun as computers."
Castle gave up on trying to save the die-hard tech enthusiast and turned his attention back to the screen. "Let's just watch the show. We can talk about other things after this big act finally plays out..."
Dominic's heavy truck, which had been swapped with Giselle's, wasn't as heavily modified or powerful as the previous one. Now, his task was to draw the police's attention and lure Hernan out. So, after driving out of the tunnel, Dominic maintained a speed of about 80 kilometers per hour, waiting for the police convoy to catch up. More importantly, he needed to know if Hernan-Reyes had personally joined the pursuit.
Not far from the cross-sea bridge, Mario's Touareg finally overtook the police cars. The diesel-powered Touaregs, with their powerful V10 engines capable of towing an Airbus 380, displayed their superior speed once they got past the obstructive police cars, closing in on Dominic's heavy truck.
Unfortunately, neither Hernan nor Mario knew that the cross-sea bridge was a trap set by Dominic. When Dominic charged onto the bridge with unstoppable momentum, Mario and the other Touareg followed suit, unwittingly driving into their doom.
Dominic heard from Mia, via the young hacker monitoring the scene with drones, that Hernan was pursuing in an off-road vehicle and was now less than 300 meters behind him. Dominic glanced ahead at a pickup truck parked by the roadside. Unlike other temporarily parked vehicles, this one had a steel plate extending from its rear bed, forming a small ramp. This was carefully designed and tested by Dominic to cause his truck to tilt left when its wheels rolled onto it. The aim was to block the pursuing vehicles and trap Hernan on the bridge, giving Hobbs and his team a chance to strike.
Estimating the distance to the trap, Dominic focused on his rearview mirror. He could see the two Touaregs rapidly closing in. Dominic grinned menacingly. Hernan-Reyes, you probably don't know yet, but today, you will die on this bridge!
Dominic accelerated to over 120 kilometers per hour, creating the illusion of trying to escape, luring Mario and Hernan's men to speed up. Mario's car was approaching 160 kilometers per hour, a speed that felt smooth and unproblematic in the Touareg. But just 100 meters behind Dominic's heavy truck, Mario was horrified by what happened next.
Dominic suddenly swerved right, causing the truck's right front wheel to roll onto the steel ramp of the parked pickup. This action, combined with the truck's high speed, made the truck tilt sharply to the left. Dominic's move was clearly well-planned.
As the truck's right front wheel climbed the ramp, the entire vehicle tilted left, with the right wheels almost leaving the ground. Instead of correcting the tilt, Dominic continued turning the steering wheel left, making the truck's center of gravity shift completely. With a loud crash, the heavy truck toppled over, blocking all four lanes of the bridge with its massive body.
Mario, who was just 100 meters away, knew there was no way to stop in time. Traveling at 160 kilometers per hour, both Touaregs would inevitably crash into the overturned truck at speeds of no less than 90 kilometers per hour.
Hernan-Reyes, seated in the back of Mario's vehicle, turned pale as he realized the trap. He hadn't anticipated Dominic using such a drastic method to block their pursuit, let alone becoming a victim of a rear-end collision himself.
He also didn't know that Dominic's plan was to trap the pursuers and isolate Hernan, leaving him vulnerable for an attack by three avengers waiting less than 100 meters away.
The sight of the 8x8 chassis heavy truck, complete with a multi-ton safe, overturning at over 100 kilometers per hour was dramatic. The truck slid a considerable distance, but it wasn't enough to give Mario time to brake. Mario had been too close, leaving him no option but to trust the Touareg's build and airbags. The crash was unavoidable.
With a loud "DUANG," Mario's Touareg crashed into the heavy truck's underbelly at over 90 kilometers per hour. The impact wasn't light. Although Hernan, strapped in the back seat, was nearly choked by the seatbelt, the German engineering of the vehicle held up. The airbags deployed, and though the engine bay was severely deformed, Mario and Hernan escaped with minor injuries.
A second Touareg also crashed, but at a slightly lower speed, having had a moment more to react.
Watching this spectacular scene through the drone's feed, Castle felt some satisfaction. He hadn't anticipated Dominic's plan in full but was impressed by its execution. Though the plan differed from the original scenario, it achieved a similar effect by stopping Hernan's vehicle and incapacitating Mario.
From the drone's perspective, Dominic emerged unscathed from the truck's cab, assisted by a Dominican bomb expert who arrived in a car to pick him up. The police chasing Dominic had been slowed by Brian's earlier interference, sparing them from the collision and giving Hobbs and his team ample time to prepare.
Mario struggled to free himself from the seatbelt and airbags, while Hernan-Reyes staggered out of the car, his face pale. What he saw next made his pupils contract in fear.
