Rebirth Of The Bastard Spirit Summoner

Chapter 86: [86] Darkness

Kael was racing through the forest, his eyes locked on the mountain peaks above.

He had just defeated all three mimics he fought and while Eurus, Jade and Jasmine were working together to take out the last one, he slipped away.

He had left with the excuse of helping Stark, but in reality all he wanted to do was observe his struggle against the mimic.

This was his final chance to study him, and he was not going to miss it for the world.

The wet ground pressed underneath his feet, moist grass and leaves brushing past him and dampening his clothes as he raced through the thicket.

'Why did it have to take him so high up?'

Before Kael had realised what was happening, the damn bird had snatched up Stark and taken him away.

At first he was happy about the development since he was alone, but now the hike up the mountain was infuriating.

He continued running for a few minutes when a crackling sound filled his ears and a strange static bud spread through the air around him.

"What the hell was that?"

Kael jumped without much effort and soared above the trees then landed at the top of the leaves, using his mana to stabilize his feet.

Then he looked ahead…

"You've got to be kidding me."

High above the trees, the forest looked eerie. The trees were shaking furiously, tree trunks being pushed about by the heavy winds and the rain descended upon the world like tingly silver daggers, glinting slightly in the little moonlight that managed to escape the storm clouds.

But the eerie sight of the forest was not what caught Kael's attention, it was something else, something more grand.

There was something wrong with the clouds—

Up in the sky, the lighting was cooling amongst themselves, twisting like salted worms as they danced in the clouds.

'Wasn't his ability Spirit Summoning?' Kael wondered as he watched the display.

There was an electric hose and the lightning descended, charging right at the mountain, but it never reached the ground, it seemed to have collided with something still in the air.

And that object brightened up like a star, the living surging around the figure Kael could not see.

He had expected it to end there, the flashy showcase was more than he expected, but then something happened.

It was as though something shifted in the atmosphere, a small change imperceivable to most people.

And then up above more lighting descended, this time with a thunderous howl. The lightning twisted, coiling around themselves and then forming the image of a beast of legend.

A dragon.

And then the dragon descended, blanketing the world in a loud thunder clap.

The trees exploded, wind rushed part Kael with urgency, as though the air itself was trying to escape the blast range.

The trees beneath his feet trembled, the branches shaving vigorously and then it finally settled.

Immediately the blast ended, Kael rushed to the scene with multiple thoughts running through his mind.

'Who was strong enough to command such a power?'

'Did Stark somehow meet a knight in the forest?'

'Was it the mimics doing?'

Only when he arrived where his questions were answered because sitting right in the center of the smothering ash, a troubling smile on his face was none other than Stark.

He had done this, no knight, no Crusader, no mimic. He alone was responsible for the destruction he had witnessed.

Kael's gaze remained fixed on his bleak form, a dangerous thought forming in his mind.

He wanted to know if he was a threat to the elven race, if he was someone that needed to be eliminated…

But now he knew.

This man was far more dangerous than he could have ever imagined. The right thing would have been to kill him at that exact moment and frame it on the mimic.

But Kael's curiosity had been piqued.

'This his kid…'

He had somehow managed to make him even more curious.

How strong would he grow if given the right mentorship? What other exciting thjngs would he show him?

Kaerl wanted to know.

He wanted to experience them with his very eyes, and for that very reason, he would keep him alive.

At least for now.

•••

Stark was swimming in an ocean of darkness, his body numb to the pain he had felt seconds ago and his mind lost to his senses.

All he saw was darkness and all he felt was a cold feeling. Not the regular type of biting cold but a strange one—it was like the cold brought out of emptiness.

He lost track of time unsure of how many minutes or even hours had passes and strangely he did not care.

It was almost as if he had become numb to everything, including his emotions.

And then he began to feel it, his body was changing. His bones were strengthening, becoming far more durable, his mind seemed a little sharper and it felt as though his spiel have become more profound.

The feeling was euphoric yet painful at the same time, at times he felt a hot searing pain, like bones being mentee and reforged anew.

Sometimes it felt as though his mind was on the verge of cracking but it never did.

And after some time, everything finally settled. Relief washed over him as he opened his eyes.

He was in an unfamiliar room, lying on a soft bed. A single light fixture hung above him, providing a skin lighting to the room.

Stark could still hear the rain crashing against the windows and the wind blowing heavily against it, the storm was not yet over.

He sat up and held his head as the last remnants of a splitting headache slowly fizzled away, and when it did, something suddenly flashed in his vision.

Ding!

"What the hell is this?" Stark wondered. He tried to knock the invisible screen away from his face but his hands just passed through it.
