Rebirth in 1980: The Farm Wife Makes a Comeback

Chapter 510: The Jians' Little San

It's just so pitiful that she can't visit the babies, and every day it's her father-in-law, mother-in-law, and Jian Zhiqing who go. Even her brother and sister-in-law have been many times and have seen them a lot, while she, the real mother, has only seen photos.

Jian Zhiqing said that the three babies have all gained a couple of pounds now and are growing well, even Little San who was the weakest. Now he's nursing fiercely; don't let his tiny kitten-like body fool you, he nurses the most and the best among the three brothers, and he's not picky. Perhaps in the future, he'll even weigh more than his two brothers.

Granny Lu made her a soup to stimulate lactation, and she drinks it daily. Although it makes her want to vomit, she's still quite worried. She fears she won't be able to nurse these three little ones herself and will have to supplement with formula. But the system gave her something akin to formula, saying she only needs to add a little bit each time, and gradually it can change the bodies of the three little ones. In its words, it doesn't want brothers who are 'weak chickens'. Her brothers naturally have to be strong and able to fight; otherwise, how will they protect their sister in the future?

This is a relief. Qin Xiangnuan is no longer worried about Little San. He has indeed become the primary concern for everyone, having had all the nutrition siphoned off by his two brothers, and was born small and weak, without even a cry. As for the other two brothers, she's not worried. The Jians' genes are somewhat abnormal, but for Little San, she feared he might be frail and sickly from a young age.

She carefully stores this formula because the system does not provide much—only a small bag per month. It seems that in the future, each of the three brothers will only be able to get a little bit.

About a month later, Qin Xiangnuan could finally conclude her postpartum confinement period. She took a vigorous bath, and the three little ones could finally come home.

Now Eldest Brother and Second are almost six pounds each. Though a bit small, they are in good health, able to eat and sleep well. Only Little San is a bit over four pounds, very light, but thankfully, his health has improved quite a bit. He's as heartbreakingly delicate as a little kitten.

This is the first time Qin Xiangnuan has seen her own little babies, and it feels quite miraculous. She touches one's little hand, another's little face. The feeling is strange—these are her children, her blood, her flesh, the continuation of her life. For a moment, she is so moved that she struggles to keep back a wave of emotional agony.

"This is Little San," Jian Zhiqing hands over the smallest child to Qin Xiangnuan. He's the weakest, and his features are the most delicate. Mom and Dad said he should have been born a little girl, but he's a boy nonetheless.

Holding the smallest child, Qin Xiangnuan looks at this one, then at that one, and realizes that the three indeed look very much alike, especially Eldest Brother and Second, with their identical little faces and shiny dark eyes. You can see they resemble Jian Zhiqing a lot, but their eyes are just like hers—big eyes, double-lidded, with skin also inherited from Mom, white as little snowballs, really beautiful.

Only Little San, perhaps because he was truly born too small, appears much more delicate than his two brothers, with his little nose and little chin, and even larger-looking eyes. Her three children really will grow well, each inheriting the best qualities from their parents.

While Eldest Brother and Second are identical twins, Little San seems to have come unexpectedly, beyond their plans, becoming their surprise.

Whenever the Jian couple holds Little San, they always feel as if he's their granddaughter, but a flip of his clothes and a glimpse of Little San's little bird, they are disappointed again. No matter how pretty, he is still a little baldie.

Qin Xiangnuan's breast milk was clearly insufficient. Although it was quite rich and could comfortably feed one child, it was just not enough for two, and entirely inadequate for three – none had their fill.

So, the triplets had to rely on formula to stave off hunger. Qin Xiangnuan followed the system's instructions, adding an extra scoop of formula for one child each day, just enough to last a month. Sometimes she truly wished the system could provide a little more, but she knew it was probably giving as much as it could. After all, these were her future brothers, just as she had said – if they grew up sturdy, they could help her fight.

It may or may not be due to the formula provided by the system, but after a month, all three babies had gained quite a bit of weight. Although they were born quite small, the nourishment they received later was astonishing. Initially small as kittens, after just over two months, they all became plump and chubby. Even Little San gained a fair amount of flesh and became more delicate. His petite figure was simply adorable, his skin so tender it seemed it could be pierced just by pinching. That's why even adults handled him with utmost care. In comparison, the two elder brothers looked rough by Little San's side. It couldn't be helped – Little San just had a more refined appearance.

The triplets' names were bestowed by Mr. Li. Jian Ming prepared many options, but none were used. Mr. Li, being of an older generation, put great faith in destiny, so he had a master calculate and declared that all three children were destined for wealth and prestige. The names were also chosen based on their birth times and dates.

Moreover, it was the turn of the Xuan generation in the Jians, so the names were Xuan Cheng, Xuan Mo, Xuan Rui in sequence. As for nicknames, Jian Ning chose them: Daxuan, Xiao Xuan – catchy and easy to remember. Of course, Third wouldn't be called Sanxuan; everyone was used to calling him Little San, so that's what stuck.

However, Qin Xiangnuan felt somewhat concerned about these names.

In the current era, 'Little San' carried no particular connotation, but in a decade or so, 'Little San' would be universally scorned. How would her Little San bear such a fate, with his charming appearance?

She gently prodded Little San's cheek – oh, so soft and tender. She couldn't bear it; her heart melted.

Picking up Little San, she planted a big kiss on him.

Little San opened his eyes, and his chubby hands grabbed her face as he giggled.

It was pretty easy to tell the Jian triplets apart.

Eldest Brother was the quiet type; as long as he was well-fed and watered, he was content. He loved to sleep – Qin Xiangnuan suspected because he was too chubby and lazy to move. As for the second child, he was restless, always stretching his legs and arms, never still for a moment. Little San was, of course, the easiest to recognize – the loudest crier, the fussiest, the pickiest eater. And naturally, the most handsome of all.

The gold bars Qin Xiangnuan deposited in the bank finally came to use. She took them out and had a golden lock made for each child, engraved with their names.

With three additional members in the household, it could sometimes be a real zoo – quite a handful indeed. Fortunately, most of the ruckus came from Little San. The two older siblings weren't like him; they slept through his cries, proving somewhat easier to tend to.
