Exercise Ground No. 98.

Three teenagers sat cross-legged on the ground, leaves placed on their foreheads, and their hands forming tiger seals.

Nearby, Kaitan flipped through a book titled Barrier Ninjutsu Volume 7. This volume was an essential part of Konoha's training in barrier techniques.

"Captain, will this really make us stronger?" Iruka asked, straining to focus his chakra on the leaf stuck to his forehead.

"Of course," Kaitan replied, his eyes never leaving the pages of his book. "An excellent ninja must learn to concentrate at all times. In the midst of battle, this allows you to detect the enemy's intentions through even the smallest details. Only then can you quickly mobilize your chakra and execute a jutsu effectively."

Hearing this, Shenu nodded and chimed in, "It's because Iruka didn't concentrate enough when we fought the giant beast last time that he failed to notice the pangolin coming out of the ground."

"No, I was just careless," Iruka muttered, pouting.

"Focus and stop talking," Kaitan said without looking up. "Shenu is right. In fact, pangolins make quite a bit of noise when they move underground.

"If you're aware of your surroundings—above, below, and all around—you'll sense such movements. A ninja must always remain alert to any new threats, as you were taught in school."

"Furthermore," Kaitan continued, "the Third Hokage once said, 'Wherever the leaves dance, the fire burns.' Directing your chakra to the leaf is the first step to igniting that flame. This is how we practice our Will of Fire."

Hearing those words, the trio became visibly motivated, pouring their focus into channeling chakra into the leaves on their foreheads.

"It's remarkable how effective the Will of Fire is," Kaitan mused, watching his students. It amazed him how a simple philosophy could motivate young ninjas to give their all.

As he returned to reading, Kaitan's thoughts shifted to the book in his hands. The text explored the intricacies of barrier techniques, detailing chakra distribution, seals, and barrier nodes.

The original timeline had plenty of strong ninjas, yet Konoha still suffered. If Pain's attack can't be stopped, the village might be destroyed.

This thought had driven Kaitan to explore new methods to protect the village. Barrier Ninjutsu seemed to hold potential. While he had already mastered the first six volumes, he still had more than a dozen volumes to study. But he was confident he could complete them all.

"Once I've mastered barriers, I might even become invincible."

Such confidence wasn't arrogance. It was part of Kaitan's cautious approach—he prepared for every possible outcome.

He glanced at the three Genin. They had entered a state of focused meditation, but their ability to concentrate was still inadequate. They flinched at every slight breeze or rustling leaf.

"Let's test something."

Inspired by an idea from the book, Kaitan decided to try out a barrier technique. He pulled several "forbidden" talismans from his ninja tool pouch and affixed them to the surrounding trees.

Then, he began forming hand seals. Even for someone of Kaitan's caliber, the barrier technique was complex, taking nearly a full minute to complete.

"Silent Barrier."

As the seals activated, chakra threads connected the talismans, forming an invisible dome that enveloped the training ground.

Inside the barrier, the world fell silent. The wind's whisper, the chirping birds, the rustling leaves—all of it vanished.

The sudden silence heightened the trio's focus, allowing them to refine their chakra more efficiently.

Outside the barrier, Kaitan observed its effects.

The Silent Barrier is promising. It consumes a lot of chakra and works best in stationary or trap-based scenarios, but its potential is undeniable.

While barrier ninjutsu was often portrayed as weak in the original timeline, Kaitan saw its value. If developed further, it could be a game-changer.

A month passed.

With the barrier aiding their training, Iruka, Shenu, and Rin made significant progress. Their ability to focus during battle improved dramatically. Whether performing ninjutsu, throwing shuriken, or analyzing their surroundings, they were now far more effective.

During this time, Kaitan also finalized plans for his wedding. He and Yamanako had decided to marry in two years when he turned seventeen. For someone with a ninja's enhanced physical maturity, this wasn't considered early.

His happiness was evident, even to his students. When they learned their captain was engaged, they were shocked. But after Kaitan treated them to ramen, their disbelief quickly turned to teasing.

One day, while they were training, a messenger arrived with a summons from the Hokage.

In the Hokage's office, Kaitan and his team stood respectfully before Hiruzen Sarutobi.

Iruka's face lit up. "Third Hokage-sama!"

Hiruzen smiled warmly. "Iruka, it's good to see you. According to Kaitan's reports, you've grown into an excellent Genin."

Iruka scratched the back of his head, embarrassed. "I still have a long way to go compared to Captain Kaitan."

Hiruzen nodded approvingly before turning his attention to Kaitan. His expression grew serious.

"I have an important mission for you, Kaitan. I trust you will handle it with care."

Kaitan straightened. "I won't let you down, Lord Hokage."

Hiruzen sighed heavily. "Your mission is to locate Asuma Sarutobi and deliver this information to him. If possible, try to convince him to return."

"Asuma Sarutobi?" Kaitan and his team exchanged confused glances.

Seeing their reactions, Hiruzen elaborated. "Asuma is my son. Unfortunately, due to my duties, I failed to guide him properly. He's become rebellious and recently went missing during a mission.

"We've received reports of him being spotted in the Land of Fire, so I need you to track him down."

The revelation stunned the team. Iruka's eyes widened. "Lord Hokage, you have a son?"

Hiruzen smiled faintly. "Yes, and it pains me to see him like this. Kaitan, I'm counting on you."

Kaitan nodded solemnly. "Understood. I'll find him."

With that, the team set out on their new mission, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
