Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law

Chapter 294: The Third Party Who Ruined the Sweetness (2)_1

Huh? Julia Bluen was a little at a loss. Once the food entered her mouth, should she swallow it or spit it out? Noticing the contrite look on her husband's handsome face, she decided to swallow it, not wanting to shake his confidence further. So, she slightly relaxed her furrowed brow and forced the extremely salty vegetable down into her stomach. Then, she hurriedly picked up the bowl of soup, which tasted as if no salt had been added, and gulped it down frenetically.

Glades Horne, seeing her actions, thought the soup must taste good, and a slight smile crept onto his embarrassed face. Julia drank the whole bowl of soup, then quickly filled another, drinking half before she stopped—a testament to just how salty the vegetables had been.

Thinking the soup had somewhat redeemed the meal, Glades Horne also excitedly took a big gulp from his bowl. His handsome face immediately went slack. Looking at the vegetables, then back at the soup, he understood everything, and his expression instantly became one of utter embarrassment. Poor, dear wife of his!

DING-DONG... DING-DONG...

The doorbell suddenly rang, again and again.

Who could it be, disturbing them at this time?

Julia immediately put down her chopsticks, which had been hovering uncertainly over one dish or another. Truth be told, she dreaded eating any more of the dinner her husband had prepared. Yet, she couldn't bear to dismiss Glades's loving gesture outright. She had barely eaten until she was about seventy percent full when the doorbell rang loudly, signaling a visitor. It felt like a lifeline, a perfect excuse. "I'll get the door," she said immediately.

Glades grabbed her wrist, stopping her. He then leisurely pulled out his phone and, after fiddling with it for a moment, said nonchalantly, "It's Adele, that girl. Alright, you can go open the door now."

Julia was puzzled. What was on his phone? How did he know the visitor was his sister, Adele Horne?

As if reading her mind, Glades handed his phone to her. The screen now displayed a surveillance feed. It was small, but the view was perfectly clear. It turned out the villa was equipped with surveillance cameras, all under his control. Even when he wasn't home, he would know if anyone visited.

After giving him a look that clearly said, You're so tricky, Julia stood up and walked out of the dining room, heading outside.

Adele's BMW was parked arrogantly in front of the villa's main gate. She stood there, relentlessly mashing the doorbell. Even when she saw Julia emerge, she didn't stop, seemingly determined to break it.

This villa belonged to Glades Horne and Julia Bluen. Except for the Old Madam's two visits, no other members of the Horne or Bluen families had ever disturbed the loving couple here, fearing they'd become a massive, unwelcome third wheel.

Adele Horne actually came? What could her purpose be?

Julia reached the main gate and saw Adele still desperately mashing the doorbell. "Stop pressing it," she said, then opened the gate for her.

"Where's my brother? Is he inside?" Adele stopped her assault on the doorbell and questioned Julia aggressively.

Glades had instructed his bodyguards to bring him back here; they had then driven his car away. Currently, Julia's Mercedes was parked in the garage.

"Do you need to see your brother for something?" Julia asked back coolly. Given Adele's hostile attitude, Julia felt no obligation to be overly warm. After all, she was the elder sister-in-law, and Adele was the younger.

"Can't I look for him if there's nothing specific? He's my brother! I missed him, can't I? Answer me, is my brother inside or not?" Adele shrieked, as if deliberately trying to provoke Julia.

With no Old Madam, no parents, no servants around, and not seeing her brother's car, Adele assumed Glades wasn't home, and her attitude became even more offensive.

Julia turned and walked away.

She tossed back coldly, "The gate's open. Whether your brother is here or not, you can come in and see for yourself."

Such a tyrannical and unreasonable sister-in-law; no wonder everyone disliked her.

For Glades's sake, she would endure it and not easily argue with Adele. But expecting her to respond kindly to Adele's attitude was impossible. With someone like Adele, who clearly detested Julia becoming her sister-in-law, no amount of niceness would be appreciated. Adele might even interpret it as weakness or fear, prompting her to become even more outrageously rude.

"You..." Adele choked on her anger. She started to follow Julia inside but stopped after a few steps, turned around, got back into her car, and drove it in.

The concrete path in the courtyard was two meters wide, enough for a car to pass. However, whether due to Adele's poor driving skills or deliberate intent, she veered onto the lawn, destroying some roadside lampposts and a few trees in the process.

The lampposts and trees were wrecked, and her own car was scratched.

She stopped the car abruptly. Julia, startled by this series of actions, had paused and turned to stare in dismay at the scene. Once Adele's car was stationary, Julia quickly rushed over, asking with concern, "Adele, are you alright?"

Her concern was entirely genuine.

Adele might be spoiled and unreasonable, but Julia knew she wasn't inherently a bad person. She was terribly lonely. Her family spoiled and loved her, but they never truly spent time with her. This fostered an immense loneliness in her heart, leading her to become what she was today—a classic case of "princess syndrome."

Besides, Adele was her only sister-in-law, and in her heart, Julia already thought of her as her own sister.

When she married Glades Horne, she accepted not just him, but all his relatives as well.

"Julia Bluen, you did this on purpose, didn't you? This path is so narrow! Weren't you deliberately trying to wreck my car?" To Julia's astonishment, her concern was met with even more unreasonable accusations from Adele, who blamed Julia for not having made the path wider, thereby causing her to crash onto the lawn and get her car scratched by branches.

"Adele, can you stop being so unreasonable? This path is two meters wide. You've been driving for years; if you can't even navigate a two-meter-wide path, what business do you have driving at all? Besides, your brother chose and designed this villa himself. How is this my fault? Did I intentionally ask your brother to make the path this narrow? Did I intentionally want to wreck your car?"

Julia's expression turned stern as well.
