Chapter 45: Try it Please?
Anna and Jayden were deeply disappointed when Cain adamantly refused to try their cooking.
"I would rather gargle raw sewage over eating whatever this is supposed to be." Cain's tone was flat as he glanced at the abomination sitting on one of his plates. The sheer audacity that they had used his plate for it made his jaw tighten. Now he would have to buy new ones.
Anna's shoulders slumped. Jayden sighed, as if his insult had sucked the very soul out of her enthusiasm. Anna looked at him, her eyes narrowing in mock offense.
"You could at least try it before you judge," she said.
Cain slowly turned his head toward her. Then he turned back to the plate. Then back to her again. His expression did not waver.
"Fuck. No."
Anna's lips parted slightly, stunned by his blunt refusal. Jayden joined her in giving him wide, sad puppy dog eyes. It was a united front of fake innocence, the kind of look that might have made a weaker man cave.
Cain, however, only felt his patience slipping. He exhaled heavily, rubbing his temple before pointing to the door.
"The answer is no. If you don't like it. Leave."
Anna tilted her head, the corner of her mouth curling. "What if it tastes better than it looks?"
Cain gave her a long, hard stare. "Then you should get some idiot dumb enough to try that and see what happens to them."
Anna leaned back slightly, her hands on her hips. "Fine."
Her eyes lit up with a sudden spark of mischief. "Actually, wait. I just had the most brilliant idea."
Cain raised an eyebrow but did not speak.
"We could get Abel to eat it."
Jayden blinked. "Who?"
Cain who had grown somewhat interested in this plan now explained
"He was that asshole who tried hitting on you while talking shit about me."
"Oh? Him? He was hitting on me?"
Anna waved a dismissive hand at her. "Do not worry about it. All you need to do is hand him the plate and see what happens."
Cain's brow furrowed. "That is your plan? Really?"
Anna's grin widened. "It is a win win. Either Abel suffers or you get proven wrong about our cooking. And if Abel is dumb enough to think Jayden is offering him a meal as some sort of peace gesture, then that is his problem."
Jayden looked from Anna to the questionable contents of the plate. "I… guess?"
"You guess," Cain repeated flatly. "You actually think that is a good idea?"
Anna ignored him entirely and turned to Jayden. "Here is the beauty of it. If he hates it, we get to laugh at him. If he somehow likes it, we can gloat in Cain's face for the rest of the week."
Cain crossed his arms. "Or you poison him and I am denied my chance to kill him myself...since you two did it instead."
Anna smirked. "So what are you saying? You don't want him to have our cooking?"
"I am saying if anyone is going to end Abel, it is going to be me," Cain replied without hesitation.
Jayden frowned, her gaze still flicking between them and the plate in her hands. "Why am I the one who has to give it to him again?"
"Because that asshole is horny degenerate pervert," Cain said, his voice flattening further. "He would even eat shit off a plate if you offered it to him if he thought he could fuck you as a result."
Jayden raised an eyebrow. "Oh? So am I giving him the food then?"
"No," Cain shot back quickly.
"Yes," Anna said at the same time, grinning.
Cain pinched the bridge of his nose. "We are not doing this. Hand him the plate if you want. Just do not come find me if he
Anna crossed her arms. "If it does, that is still a win."
Cain gave her a sideways look. "You need therapy."
"I have you," she said with mock sweetness.
"That is worse," Cain muttered.
Jayden looked down at the plate again, her nose wrinkling as if she could smell the disaster through the layers of mystery ingredients. "You two really think this is going to work?"
Anna's grin turned almost predatory. "It will work. Trust me."
Cain snorted. "Those are the exact words people say before things go wrong. Horribly, horribly wrong."
"Then I guess we will make history," Anna said, holding her hands out as if she was presenting a grand plan to the world.
Jayden let out a long breath. "Fine. But if he ends up in the infirmary and misses the duel with Cain, It's entirely your fault. I won't be blamed for this!"
Anna clicked her tongue with disappointment before she grumbled 'Fine."
Cain gave her a slow, unimpressed blink. "You keep saying everyone wins like that makes it true."
"It does," she said cheerfully.
Jayden adjusted her grip on the plate, her eyes darting toward the door. "Where is he right now?"
"At this time? Probably in the common area of the lounge," Cain replied with a look of disgust on his face. " He is probably trying to charm some poor idiotic girl into thinking he's more important than he actually is."
"Perfect," Anna said, already moving toward the hallway. "You are coming with me, Jayden."
Jayden stopped dead. "Why do I have to be the one to—"
"Because," Anna cut in smoothly, "you have the pretty face he wants to fuck. He will take anything from you."
Cain muttered something under his breath that sounded suspiciously like an insult, but Anna ignored it.
Jayden groaned, dragging her feet toward the door. "If he touches me, I am going to kill him."
"If he does," Cain said without looking up, "Tell me and I will rip off the arm that did it."
Anna shot him a mischievous smile over her shoulder. "Then you might want to come watch."
Cain hesitated, then followed anyway. Not because he cared about the food experiment, but because seeing Abel in misery was too good to pass up.
