A deafening explosion resounded, causing the ship to sway violently.

At that moment, the passengers in the battle arena could barely stand, tilting with the ship's movement.

The furniture followed suit, sliding and toppling, while fragile items shattered upon hitting the floor, filling the air with a continuous clatter of breaking glass.

Screams erupted from the more timid passengers, and chaos swept across the venue.

Fortunately, the explosion didn't repeat, and the ship eventually stabilized, but the passengers, gripped by fear, began stampeding toward the exits.

The limited size of the exits, coupled with the passengers' panic, turned the evacuation into a nightmare.

People pushed and shoved, causing bottlenecks and even trampling in their desperation to escape.

Thankfully, the ship's crew and attendants, all trained for emergencies, sprang into action.

They worked to restore order, using Pokémon where necessary to calm the terrified crowd.

"What the hell is going on, Rhodes?"

The captain's face was a mix of anger and shock as he turned to Rhodes, who looked equally incensed at the chaos unfolding in the award venue.

"Captain! The engine room has exploded, and the ship is taking on water—it's going to sink!"

Before Rhodes could answer, a sailor in uniform burst out from a corner, holding a walkie-talkie and shouting in panic.

His words sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Whatever semblance of order had been restored evaporated instantly as passengers ignored the crew's attempts to calm them and surged toward the exits in sheer desperation.

A sinking ship was no trivial matter. If they didn't escape in time, everyone aboard could be doomed to go down with it.

"How could this happen? How dare they do something so reckless? Have they lost their minds?"

Standing on the award platform beside the captain, Wigel's face was dark with fury. His hands, adorned with numerous expensive rings, gripped a nearby railing tightly, his knuckles turning white.

"These lunatic rats! I'll kill every last one of you! Come out, you filthy cowards! If you have a grudge, take it out on me! How dare you harm my ship—I'll destroy you all!"

The captain, upon hearing the news that his beloved ship was sinking, turned pale as a sheet, his anger blazing like fire.

He roared furiously at the crowd below the stage, his voice trembling with rage.

The St. Louis was the captain's pride and joy, a vessel that had accompanied him through nearly half of his life. To him, it was like a child.

Now, that child was being destroyed, and the realization pushed him to the brink of madness.

While the captain was losing himself to anger, Rhodes remained calm and composed.

Without hesitation, he summoned a Level 45 Feraligatr and a Level 43 Raichu, positioning them as guards in front of the captain.

At the same time, he directed several security sailors to form a protective barrier around Wigel and the tournament's top-ranking trainers, watching the non-crew members warily.

"Captain, don't fall for their tricks! This place is no longer safe. Leave the rats to us. And you lot—why are you still standing there? Get the captain out of here immediately!"

Rhodes quickly restrained the furious captain, who was about to charge into the fray, and spoke to him in a calm and reassuring tone.

Strictly speaking, the captain was Rhodes' foster father and had once recognized his talents, offering him guidance and opportunities.

Even though Rhodes had now far surpassed the captain in strength, he remained loyal and willingly served under him.

"You're right, Rhodes. Let's go. We need to head back to the captain's quarters immediately."

The captain, a man seasoned by years of sailing through storms and peril, had acted impulsively in his anger. However, Rhodes' words brought him back to his senses, and he quickly regained his composure.

Without hesitation, he ordered Rhodes to escort him away.

The captain and a group of ship guards were just about to leave the platform through an emergency exit when Mary, Hector, and their accomplices hidden among the crowd made their move.

The first to strike were none other than the two award recipients standing alongside the captain on the platform earlier—Shuuji Ikeda and Shu Yamato.

Shu Yamato's Alakazam suddenly materialized and unleashed Psychic, overpowering Feraligatr in an instant.

At the same time, Shuuji Ikeda's Sneasel delivered a vicious Feint Attack, knocking Raichu off the platform.

With Feraligatr and Raichu neutralized, the two Pokémon immediately turned their attention to the captain.

Alakazam's eyes glowed blue as it prepared to use Telekinesis to yank the captain from the crowd, while Sneasel unleashed Icy Wind to keep the ship guards and their Pokémon at bay.

"You've gone too far! Raichu, use Thunderbolt! Feraligatr, Hydro Pump!"

Rhodes, his eyes filled with fury, immediately commanded a counterattack.

Unfortunately, both Raichu and Feraligatr were already occupied.

Mary's Level 42 Poliwrath was locked in a brutal clash with Feraligatr, while Hector's Level 43 Sceptile intercepted Raichu, preventing either from aiding the captain.

In this electrifying moment, everything seemed meticulously planned. Rhodes found himself completely pinned by Mary and Hector, leaving him unable to assist the captain.

However, to the attackers' surprise, someone unexpected made a move.

Jiro Miyamoto, who had been quietly observing from the side, suddenly sprang into action.

A Gengar leaped out from his shadow, launching a Shadow Ball that struck Alakazam squarely.

"Boom!"

Caught completely off guard, Alakazam crumpled under the super-effective attack from the Ghost-type move. Its fragile defenses couldn't withstand the hit, and it collapsed instantly.

Meanwhile, an inconspicuous patch of muddy ground near Sneasel swelled unexpectedly.

A Muk emerged and engulfed the unprepared Sneasel in one swift motion.

"Heh, heh, heh. Lord Rhodes, don't forget what you promised me after all this is over," Jiro Miyamoto said with a sinister grin after neutralizing the immediate threat to the captain.

"Well, well, well, the mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind," Sato thought to himself as he watched the dramatic turn of events unfold from the temporary medical room where he had been hiding.

His gaze lingered on the ongoing chaos around him, and a glimmer of murderous intent flashed in his eyes.

"These raving lunatics have gone too far. They need to be eradicated," he mused, feeling a growing unease amidst the chaos.
