Chapter 94: The Red Trait [Silence] and News of the National High School League!
May 4th.
The first day since Manaphy left.
Today, Hikaru had the chance to refresh four traits: the daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly traits.
Starting with the daily trait:
[Green Trait: Photographic Memory] – Allows you to memorize any material after just one look.
"Not bad," Hikaru thought, nodding in satisfaction.
Next came the weekly trait:
[Blue Trait: Critical Hit] – Doubles the probability of inflicting a status condition when using skills. Cooldown: 3 minutes.
Hikaru paused, deep in thought.
"Interesting. This could be useful for Ghost-type or Poison-type Pokémon, especially those that rely on status conditions to disrupt opponents."
He decided to keep the trait instead of breaking it down.
Now for the monthly and quarterly traits, both revealed simultaneously.
The flashing red and purple lights were unmistakable.
[Purple Trait: Suppression] – When landing an attack on the opponent, this trait reduces their buffs by 30%–70%, depending on their strength.
"This is excellent for countering moves like Sword Dance, Dragon Dance, or moves that sap health like Leech Seed or Draining Kiss. It's a game-changer in battle."
Finally, the quarterly trait:
[Red Trait: Silence] – When using an attack, there is a high probability of interrupting the opponent's ongoing skill. Exclusive to Psychic-type Pokémon. Cooldown: 3 minutes.
Hikaru's eyes gleamed.
"So, this is a Red Trait's power—pure disruption. With the 'Critical Hit' trait, I could potentially make this 100% effective. This is nasty, especially for opponents relying on strategic setups!"
He equipped the Silence and Critical Hit traits on Latias.
Though he hadn't added traits to Latias before, now seemed the perfect time.
As for the Suppression trait, it was universal, meaning any Pokémon could use it. Hikaru decided to keep it on hand and equip it depending on the situation.
---
The Ocean Crystal, brimming with oceanic energy, had elevated his Pokémon significantly.
Greninja, Charizard, and Gardevoir reached Level 40.
Lucario leveled up to 29.
"It's time to move on," Hikaru muttered, gazing at Latias on the hotel balcony.
Latias had transformed into its human form, sitting on the edge of the balcony and gazing into the distance.
It seemed melancholic, possibly due to Manaphy's departure.
---
Feeling a tug of guilt, Hikaru summoned Gardevoir, though her timid demeanor suggested she anticipated a scolding.
Through telepathy, Gardevoir sensed that Hikaru was upset about her earlier decision to shield him.
But when he saw her vulnerable expression, his frustration melted.
"Just… don't do anything risky like that again, okay?" Hikaru finally said.
"Gardevoir…" she murmured, nodding.
---
While Hikaru reflected on his team, a notification from the Pokémon League arrived.
---
National High School League Announcement:
"This year's National High School League will feature both preliminary and official tournaments.
The official tournament will include 64 selected participants based on outstanding performances in their provincial leagues.
An additional 64 participants will be chosen through the preliminary rounds.
Participants who excel in the league will receive rare rewards, including pseudo-Legendary Pokémon like Dratini and Beldum, along with various valuable treasures.
Are you ready to compete with the best? Don't miss this opportunity!"
---
A personalized message followed:
"Dear Hikaru,
Based on your exceptional performance in the Bodhi Province League, we would like to invite you to participate in the National High School League.
If you are interested, reply with '1.'
If not, reply with '2.'"
Without hesitation, Hikaru replied with a '1.'
---
The National High School League was set to take place in Kyoto, the capital of Huaxia.
This tournament wasn't just a competition—it was a testament to Huaxia's thriving Pokémon culture.
Anyone who participated in the league would undoubtedly become a Master-level Trainer or higher.
It was one of the nation's two most prestigious events, alongside the Youth Trainer League.
The latter, limited to trainers under 24, required participants to challenge various gyms to qualify.
---
As Hikaru prepared to leave for Kyoto, he reflected on his progress.
His paper, "The Evolutionary Path of Riolu to Lucario," was complete and ready for submission.
---
The day before Hikaru's departure, Champion Takashi Hayashi arrived in the region on his Dragonite.
Dragonite's incredible speed allowed him to traverse the entire country within a day.
After hearing Hikaru's account of what had transpired, Takashi was both shocked and impressed.
"Kyogre, Manaphy… Latias… Kid, are you some kind of Legendary magnet?"
Hikaru awkwardly scratched his head.
"Well, there was Articuno too…"
Takashi sighed in disbelief.
"Most people don't encounter a Legendary Pokémon in their entire lives. Yet you've met four in less than a year."
He didn't press further but promised, "Don't worry about Team Rocket or the pirates. Their days are numbered. I'll make sure the league cracks down on them."
Takashi's eyes gleamed coldly.
"That's my future brother-in-law they messed with. They'll pay for it."
---
Three days later, Hikaru began intensive training in preparation for the National High School League.
Past champions of the league had fielded pseudo-Legendary Pokémon and teams of Elite-level strength.
To win, Hikaru knew he had to push his team to their limits.
The road to victory would be grueling, but Hikaru was determined to claim the championship.
