Chapter 745: Recruitment Efforts
Since her beloved grandson had come to Orient City, Evelyn naturally had no intention of letting Julian return to Lake City so soon—she insisted on having him stay longer to keep her company.
Julian felt the same way. With just a month left before his uncle's wedding, there was no chance he'd be allowed to venture into any secret realms during this time, and he couldn't be bothered to return to university either.
So, he decided to stay at the Cavendish family's estate and spend more time with his grandmother.
Orient City was an international metropolis. Aside from being slightly inferior to the Imperial Capital in terms of political stature, in terms of prosperity it even surpassed the capital in some aspects.
And Huang'an District was the very heart of Orient City—its core area. The housing prices here reached more than 200,000 per square meter, truly making it a land worth its weight in gold.
Today, Evelyn brought Julian to a shopping mall owned by the Cavendish family in Huang'an District.
Not far from this mall stood the Metagross Tower—one of the Walker family's properties.
"Today, Grandma's going to buy you some clothes," Evelyn said, leading Julian into the shopping mall.
Ever since Julian started university, Evelyn hadn't had the chance to buy clothes for her beloved grandson. Normally, the clothes Julian wore were either bought online or picked up in bulk when Slowking dragged him to the mall.
Without a mask but wearing oversized sunglasses that covered half his face, Julian went unrecognized.
Although he was quite famous, fame was something that required constant exposure to maintain its heat. No matter how popular a celebrity was, if they disappeared from the public eye for even half a year, they were quickly forgotten, replaced by ever-emerging new faces.
The last big stir Julian had caused was when he and his father used their Metagross to confront John's Metagross. And even that had been nearly ten months ago.
So, while plenty of people still remembered Julian, the public's attention toward him had waned a lot.
Standing at 185 cm tall with six-pack abs, long legs, and a perfectly proportioned figure, Julian was a natural-born clothes hanger.
Even if you threw a burlap sack on him, he'd still make it look high-end.
"No wonder you're my grandson—everything looks good on you," Evelyn remarked, growing more and more pleased as she watched Julian try on the clothes she'd picked out. Every outfit seemed to suit him perfectly.
The staff member assisting them couldn't help but freeze when she overheard Evelyn calling Julian her grandson.
Judging from her appearance, Evelyn appeared to be in her forties. The employee had initially assumed they were mother and son or siblings—or, with a more cynical thought, that Julian might be her kept pretty boy.
It never crossed her mind that this elegant woman could actually be his grandmother.
"Madam, how do you maintain yourself so well?" the staff member couldn't help but ask.
If the form of address was real, then this elegant beauty in front of her must be significantly older than she had imagined.
As a woman herself, of course she wanted to know how the other maintained her appearance. Even if the upkeep cost a fortune, she still wanted to know—after all, she wasn't bad-looking herself.
"Oh, this? Just consume some Glossy Ganoderma, Ambrosia, and Beauty Berry," Evelyn explained casually.
The staff member had no idea what the first two things were, but she knew about the Beauty Berry—or rather, it was something almost every woman knew.
With those two unfamiliar items being mentioned alongside the Beauty Berry, she realized that this maintenance regimen was something money alone couldn't buy.
They didn't buy much at this store—just three items—because Evelyn planned to take Julian to other shops as well.
"Can you believe those two were grandmother and grandson? I thought for sure they were mother and son—unbelievable," the staff member muttered to her colleague.
However, her colleague didn't respond. Instead, she was busy scrolling through her phone. Curious, the staff member leaned over and saw that her colleague was looking at photos—photos of the male customer who had just been in the store.
"What, fangirling already? Well, even with sunglasses on, you could tell just from his aura that he must be really handsome."
As staff working in a luxury store, they often encountered wealthy and distinguished guests, and naturally there was no shortage of good-looking men and women.
"You really didn't recognize him?" her colleague asked.
"Him?"
Her colleague pointed at the photo of the customer. "Now that you mention it, he does look kind of familiar… did he come by before?"
"As expected of a fake fan. Weren't you the one who used to call him your husband every day? And just now, your 'husband' stood right in front of you with just a pair of sunglasses on, and you couldn't even recognize him."
"Wait—don't tell me… was that Leo?" she asked excitedly.
"It's Julian! King Julian!"
Her colleague sighed helplessly.
"Ohhh, so it's my first husband! No wonder he looked so familiar!"
---
Meanwhile, Julian had no idea that this kind of scene had unfolded after he left the store. Right now, he was more like a puppet on strings, being dragged around by his grandmother, visiting more than a dozen shops in a row.
At each store, she bought three or four items—from small things like socks and hats to larger purchases like clothes and shoes.
Fortunately, Gengar was there to help, stuffing everything directly into its belly.
Once his family's company finished developing the spatial backpack, Julian planned to use it to cover up the existence of his system space.
But creating such a product, even with him providing the complete schematics, would take at least two or three years before they could produce even a prototype.
After all, the current level of technology in Drakoria was still at least decades behind that of the city he had seen in the Ruin.
It was like giving a steam-age society a full set of blueprints for an internal combustion engine—they might understand the diagrams, but without the equipment and the right materials, they couldn't actually make it.
After doing there shopping, they had lunch right there in the mall.
Finally, Julian got a chance to rest. Leaning back in his seat, he pulled out his phone and started scrolling through TikTok.
The college entrance exam had just ended, and now was the season when universities all over the country started their big recruitment campaigns. A lot of students joined in too, helping promote their own university.
As a result, Julian's feed was flooded with short videos made by college students trying to attract new recruits.
Stuff like: "Better than Tier One, Tier two is where it's at!"
Or: "I'm so handsome, my photos always get stolen and sold online!"
Watching these recruitment clips, Julian couldn't help but think: 'Are you sure you guys aren't spies sent over by rival schools?'
Curious, he specifically searched for Imperial University.
Sure enough, their recruitment videos popped up quickly—some official, but even more were made by current students.
Official video: "Come be Julian's junior!"
Comments below:
> "To be King Julian's junior, you need to rank in the top 60 in the province… sobs I'm not qualified."
> "Didn't Imperial University also use King Julian for recruitment last year? I wonder if he even knows about this."
> "Sorry, but I'm destined for the rival university next door."
> "What's so great about Shu? No one can stop me from enrolling at Imperial University's Vocational Institute!"
Student-made videos:
These videos were actually quite normal. Plenty of pretty female students showed off bare arms and long legs—eye candy for sure.
But what puzzled Julian was the background of their filming locations.
The more he looked, the more familiar it seemed.
That house… why did it look exactly like his villa at Imperial University?
And that large bird's nest in the tree? He could clearly see it—it was the one he'd specifically built there for Moltres.
