Chapter 41: Chapter 41 - Simon Vs. Rico
But then, Simon, a man with yellow hair and black eyes, noticed Rico and his team standing, and then asked them from the distance, "Hey, kid, are you here for the badge?"
Rico and his team heard this, and Rico answered back, "Yes, I am."
"Well then, come and try to get it from me, because I'm still energetic you know."
"Oh, okay then."
Riolu then responded with determination.
And so, Rico and Simon are having a Pokémon battle; their Pokémon are Riolu and Shinx.
Upon seeing a new Pokémon, Rico asked, "Who's that Pokémon?"
He then pulled out his Pokédex and pointed it towards Shinx; his Pokédex then responded, "Shinx, the Flash Pokémon. An Electric-type. All of its fur dazzles if danger is sensed. It flees while the foe is momentarily blinded."
"Wow, so cool," Rico commented. He then put his Pokédex back in his pants pocket and focused back on the battle.
"This Pokémon will electrify your Pokémon," Simon said to Rico in coolness.
"We will not run away!" Rico shouted back.
Riolu then responded seriously.
And so, the battle had begun.
"Shinx, use Spark!" Simon commanded Shinx in serious coolness.
Shinx then used Spark, throwing an electrically charged tackle at Riolu.
But, Rico immediately commanded Riolu, "Quickly, dodge it!"
Riolu then dodged Shinx's attack, and Rico commanded it, "Use Focus Blast!"
Riolu then used Focus Blast, heightening its mental focus and unleashes its power, striking Shinx with a bit of effectiveness.
Shinx then collapsed a bit to the ground, but eventually got up.
"Wow, that Focus Blast was really powerful," Simon commented. "But, can your Riolu handle this?" Then to Shinx, "Shinx, use Thunder Shock!"
Shinx then used Thunder Shock, hurling Riolu with a jolt of electricity, striking Riolu with minimum effectiveness. But, it didn't cause Riolu to collapse to the ground nor be paralyzed.
"Riolu, are you okay?" Rico asked Riolu.
Riolu then get up and responded with seriousness.
"Alright, Riolu, use Quick Attack!" Rico quickly commanded Riolu in seriousness.
Riolu then used Quick Attack, charging at Shinx in a fast pace, striking it with minimum effectiveness. But, it didn't cause Shinx to collapse to the ground either.
And then, Shinx used Thunder Shock again on Riolu. But, Riolu dodged it immediately, and Rico commanded, "Again, use Focus Blast!"
Riolu then used Focus Blast, heightening its mental focus and unleashes its power, striking Shinx with power that Shinx got defeated by it.
Simon and Rico are surprised by it.
"Shinx is unable to battle," the referee announced. "Riolu wins."
Rico was delighted by it then, commenting, "Wow, great job. Riolu."
Riolu then turned around and responded with positivity.
Calling his defeated Shinx back, Simon said to it, "You did a good job, Shinx, you deserved some rest."
He then switched it with another Poké Ball and said to Rico, "Oh, yeah, can you handle this electrifying Pokémon?" He then threw the Poké Ball and said, "Go, Jolteon!"
Jolteon then came out of its Poké Ball, and it stepped into battle with seriousness.
Rico and Riolu are a bit stunned to seemn it, and Rico asked, "Woah, who's that Pokémon?"
Once again, he pulled out his Pokédex and pointed it towards Jolteon; his Pokédex then responded, "Jolteon, the Lightning Pokémon, and the evolved form of Eevee. An Electric-type. It controls 10,000-volt power and can raise all the fur on its body as if it were sharp needles."
"Amazing," Rico commented.
He then put his Pokédex back in his pants pocket, and focused back on the battle.
And so, the second round of the battle had begun.
"Jolteon, use Spark!" Simon commanded Jolteon seriously.
Jolteon then used Spark, throwing an electrically charged tackle at Riolu.
But, Rico immediately commanded Riolu, "Quickly, dodge it!"
Riolu then dodged Jolteon's attack, and Rico commanded it, "Use Focus Blast!"
Riolu then used Focus Blast, heightening its mental focus and unleashes its power, seriking Jolteon with minimum effectiveness. But it didn't cause Jolteon to collapse to the ground.
"Wow, that was amazing," Simon commented with mild enthusiasm. "But can you handle this?" Then to Jolteon, "Jolteon, use Thunderbolt!"
Getting up, Jolteon used Thunderbolt, loosing a strong electric blast at Riolu striking Riolu with power. Riolu then collapsed to the ground and it got paralyzed and unable to move. Rico got alerted and asked Riolu, "Are you okay?"
"Ha! You're now toasted!" Simon said to him and Riolu. Then to Jolteon, "Use Spark!"
Jolteon then used Spark, throwing an electrically charged tackle at Riolu, striking Riolu once more with power. As a result, Riolu fainted from it.
"Riolu is unable to battle," the referee announced. "Jolteon wins."
"Now, how's that?" Simon asked Rico in cool seriousness.
Without any contempt nor resentment, Rico called back his Riolu, and said to it, "You did a great job, Riolu, you deserved some rest."
He then switched it with another Poké Ball, and said to Simon, "It's alright. I still won't give up."
He then threw the Poké Ball and shouted, "Litleo, let's go!"
Litleo then came out of its Poké Ball, and it stepped into battle with positive seriousness.
"Wow, a Litleo?" Simon commented. "Nice choice."
"Yes, and it knows Flamethrower," Rico responded positively with confidence.
"I see. Let's see about that" Then to Jolteon, "Jolteon, use Thunderbolt!"
Jolteon then used Thunderbolt, loosing an electrically charged tackle at Litleo.
But, Litleo dodged it immediately without command, and Rico commanded Litleo, "Quickly, use Flamethrower!"
Litleo then used Flamethrower, scorching an intense blast of fire towards Jolteon, striking it with power. Jolteon then collapsed to the ground, but eventually got up immediately. Simon was very surprised to see Flamethrower being learned by a small Pokémon like Litleo.
"Is that Flamethrower?" Simon asked Rico.
"Yeah, it is," Rico responded with cool seriousness. "It learned it while on vacation."
"I see. Oh, yeah? How about this?" Then to Jolteon, "Jolteon, use Thunder Shock!"
Jolteon then used Thunder Shock, hurling a jolt of electricity at Litleo, striking it with minimum power. But it didn't cause Litleo to be paralyzed by it. Litleo then snapped out from it.
"Litleo, use Flamethrower, again!" Rico quickly commanded Litleo seriously.
Litleo then used Flamethrower, scorching an intense blast of fire, striking Jolteon with power. Jolteon then got defeated by it then, concluding the second round.
"Jolteon is unable to battle," the referee announced. "Litleo wins."
Rico was delighted by it, and he said to Litleo, "Wow, Litleo, you're so awesome."
Litleo then responded with seriousness.
Calling his defeated Jolteon, Simon said to it, "You did a great job, Jolteon. You deserved some rest."
He then switched it with his last Poké Ball, and said to Rico, "Well, this is the finale!" He then threw the Poké Ball and shouted, "Electivire, let's go!"
Electivire then came out of its Poké Ball, and it stepped into battle with seriousness.
Its size really made Litleo mildly scared for a few seconds.
"Who's that Pokémon?" Rico asked.
Once more, he pulled out his Pokédex and pointed it towards Electivire; his Pokédex then responded, "Electivire, the Thunderbolt Pokémon, and the final evolved form of Elekid. An Electric-type. It pushes the tips of its two tails against the foe, then lets loose with over 20,000 volts of power."
"What the…? That was insane," Rico commented.
He then put his Pokédex back in his pants pocket, and focused back to the battle.
The last round had begun.
"Electivire, use Thunderbolt!" Simon commanded Electivire seriously.
Electivire then used Thunderbolt, loosing a strong electric blast at Litleo.
"Quickly, dodge it!" Rico commanded Litleo quickly.
Litleo then dodged the Thunderbolt, and Rico commanded it, "Then use Flamethrower!"
Litleo then used Flamethrower, scorching an intense blast of fire towards Electivire, striking it with power. But, Electivire snapped out of it almost immediately.
"Do you think your Litleo's Flamethrower will beat my Electivire?" Simon asked Rico in cool seriousness. Then to Electivire, "Use Spark!"
Electivire then used Spark, throwing an electrically charged tackle at Litleo, striking it with power, and it even caused Litleo to be paralyzed and unable to move.
"Oh, no, Litleo!" Rico said to Litleo upon seeing this.
Litleo then responded in pain.
"Ha! Again, you're toasted!" Simon responded to this. Then to Electivire, "Electivire, finish it with Thunderbolt!"
Electivire then used Thunderbolt, loosing a strong electric blast at Litleo, striking it with power. As the smoke clears, Litleo got defeated by it, surprising Rico a lot.
"Litleo is unable to battle," the referee announced. "Electivire wins."
"You can only use one more Pokémon, kid," Simon said to Rico in cool seriousness.
Calling his Litleo back, Rico said to it, "Litleo, thanks for everything. You deserved some rest."
He then switched it with Absol's Poké Ball, and thought to himself, "Just one more Pokémon, and I'm done if something goes wrong. But, it didn't matter if I win or lose, as long as I enjoy the battle itself."
He then threw the Poké Ball while shouting, "Absol, let's go!"
Absol then came out of its Poké Ball, and it stepped into battle with seriousness.
Simon and Electivire were stunned to see an Absol being Rico's Pokémon.
"What in the world? An Absol?"
"Yeah, it's my last Pokémon for this battle," Rico said to them.
"Well, what an obvious choice you made. Let's continue, shall we?"
Rico then seriously nodded to say yes.
And so, the battle had continued.
"Electivire, use Thunderbolt!" Simon commanded Electivire seriously.
Electivire then used Thunderbolt, loosing a strong electrical blast at Absol.
"Quickly, Absol, use Dark Pulse!" Rico quickly commanded Absol.
Absol then used Dark Pulse, shooting a beam of purple circles at Electivire, hitting and striking the Thunderbolt and caused an explosion.
"Woah," Rico commented in surprise.
As the smoke clears, nothing really happened to both Absol and Electivire.
"That's quite the Dark Pulse your Absol just released," Simon commented to this. "How about this?" Then to Electivire, "Electivire, use Spark!"
Electivire then used Spark, throwing an electrically charged tackle at Absol.
"Absol, use Dark Pulse, again!" Rico commanded Absol quickly and seriously.
Absol then used Dark Pulse, shooting a beam of purple circles at Electivire, striking it with minimum power. Electivire then collapsed to the ground in pain.
"Electivire, are you okay?" Simon asked it.
But, Electivire was still up, and it got up immediately.
"Quickly, use Thunder Shock!" Simon commanded Electivire in serious coolness.
Electivire then used Thunder Shock, hurling a jolt of electricity at Absol.
"Absol, dodge it!" Rico immediately commanded Absol. "And use Night Slash!"
Absol then dodged the Thunder Shock attack, and immediately used Night Slash, slashing Electivire, striking it with minimum power. But, it didn't caused Electivire to collapse to the ground this time. It got up immediately, and Simon commanded it, "Use Thunderbolt!"
Electivire then used Thunderbolt, loosing a strong electric blast at Absol.
But, Absol immediately dodged that, surprising Simon and Rico, and used Night Slash again, slashing Electivire, striking it with increased power. As a result, Electivire got defeated by it, concluding the final round. Simon was surprised, while Rico was delighted by it.
"Electivire is unable to battle," the referee announced. "Absol wins, and the match goes to Rico."
Rico then rejoiced in victory, and Absol ran to him and, Rico gave it a slight hug.
Calling his Electivire, Simon said, "Well, I guess the rules stated that if the Trainer wins, I, the gym leader, will have to give him/her the gym badge."
He then put the Poké Ball, walked up to Rico and Absol, and presented Rico the official badge of his gym, the Thunderbolt Badge.
"Congratulations, kid, for defeating me," he said to him.
"Wow, thanks," Rico responded back happily, before digging into his backpack and retrieved his gym badge case, which was given by Professor Campillo before his journey. He then grabbed the gym badge, raised it into the air, and shouted, "Yay! I just got the Thunderbolt Badge!"
He then put it into the right slot, and it fitted just right. The long, exhaustive battle between Rico and Simon is over, and Rico had won.
