Pokémon: I’m Really Not a Team Rocket Spy

Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Not to Be Messed With

Carefully reviewing the League's dossier, the opposing leader was identified as Gregor. His primary Pokémon included Darmanitan, Magmortar, and Blaziken, all boasting Elite Four-level strength.

Among them, the most formidable was Blaziken, which had the coveted Speed Boost ability. Even among Pokémon of the same rank, it was a nightmare to deal with. Once it built up its speed, taking it down would likely require two or three Pokémon working together.

Based on the data, Gregor appeared to be a Fire-type specialist. Somehow, he had also obtained a Darmanitan, a Pokémon extremely rare in the Kanto region.

It was unclear which ability this Darmanitan had. Regardless, whether it was Sheer Force or Zen Mode, it would undoubtedly be a tough opponent.

Sheer Force: No need to elaborate—just two words, raw power! Pair it with a Life Orb, charge in, and blast opponents with Flare Blitz.

Zen Mode: Activates when its HP drops below a critical threshold, transforming it into a tanky special attacker. It shifts from berserker mode to an immovable cannon.

As for Magmortar, it seemed relatively ordinary in comparison. However, since it was of Elite Four caliber, it still demanded caution.

"So, what's the League's plan of action?"

Having reviewed the information, Maki could understand why Team Rocket had been hesitant to act rashly.

If this were in another region, Giovanni would have unhesitatingly sent people to eliminate Gregor. But not in Saffron City.

This city was one of Team Rocket's most critical bases. Making a move here could easily attract the League's attention. Eliminating Gregor alone wasn't worth the risk of exposing their plans.

After all, the League wouldn't just stand by and allow Gregor's power to grow unchecked. Using the League to eliminate him indirectly might even be a better option.

Even in the worst-case scenario, where Team Rocket's operations in Saffron City were exposed, their years of groundwork meant they might not even fear the League.

"The League seems to be taking this matter seriously. They've dispatched an Elite Four member."

"Who?"

Maki raised an eyebrow. Sending just one member of the Elite Four seemed insufficient to handle Gregor effectively.

"Agatha."

"What?!"

Maki gasped audibly. The League wasn't pulling any punches this time—bringing Agatha into the mix was a bold move.

Currently, the Champion position in Kanto remained vacant. Some had suggested having Agatha temporarily fill the role until the younger generation matured.

However, Agatha had refused, citing her age and unwillingness to handle too many League affairs. On a standard battlefield, Agatha's strength was already beyond that of an ordinary Elite Four member. But in an unrestricted environment, her capabilities were enough to give even Giovanni a headache.

A powerful ghost-type army—this was the source of Agatha's confidence.

Seeing Agatha involved, Maki immediately concluded that Gregor's prospects weren't looking good. Agatha was notoriously temperamental, after all.

"Is Agatha planning to take down his entire operation single-handedly?"

Maki's lips twitched slightly. If the League really sent Agatha alone, that might genuinely be the plan.

"To avoid causing unrest in Saffron City, the League has also deployed a sizable team to assist. As the acting Gym Leader of Saffron City, I will be involved as well."

"So, what exactly am I supposed to do here?"

After listening for so long, Maki still hadn't figured out what role he was supposed to play. Supporting Sabrina? The League's main coordinator was Agatha. Their priority was ensuring Team Rocket didn't get dragged into the mess.

"Giovanni believes that the usual process for infiltrating the League's higher ranks takes too long. This incident presents an opportunity to introduce you to the League's radar."

"...You're kidding, right?"

Maki chuckled nervously. This wasn't infiltrating the enemy ranks—it was walking straight into a death trap!

"I only have a Charmander at Poké Ball level. If the opponent is even slightly strong, I won't even have a chance to escape. I think this matter should be approached more gradually."

Sabrina glanced at Maki with amusement before tossing him a Poké Ball.

Unlike all other Poké Balls on the market, this one had a purple top and a silver-white bottom, resembling a Master Ball from Maki's previous life but with subtle differences.

"What's inside?"

Maki fiddled with the Poké Ball in his hand. This was a new product developed by Silph Co.—or rather, a failed prototype from a certain project.

While the original project had failed, this Poké Ball still had a unique function: it could completely conceal the presence of the Pokémon inside.

For example, the ghost-types under Agatha would undoubtedly be highly sensitive to life energy. A regular Poké Ball wouldn't be able to hide from their detection—but this one could.

"Dragonite," Sabrina said after a brief pause. "Champion level!"

Maki's hand froze mid-spin. He carefully placed the Poké Ball on the table. Inside it was a big shot—not something to be trifled with.

A Champion-level Dragonite. What did that mean? With Maki and this Dragonite alone, they could likely resolve the entire incident.

"Giovanni emphasized that if Agatha detects anything unusual, release Dragonite immediately. It will take you away. The mission is secondary—your life is the priority."

Sabrina's tone grew serious. This wasn't just Giovanni's stance; it was hers as well.

No one, not even Agatha, would expect a child to be carrying a Champion-level Dragonite. Any hopes of a sneak attack were pointless—Agatha, a ghost-type Elite Four member, wouldn't be caught off guard so easily.

At the very least, the Dragonite should ensure a safe retreat.

This was why Giovanni had chosen Dragonite instead of any other Pokémon.

As Kanto's pseudo-legendary, Dragonite's strength was indisputable. While its agility was sometimes criticized, the term "speed" here referred more to maneuverability than raw speed.

In terms of flight speed, Dragonite was among the best of all Pokémon. The Pokédex even claimed it could circumnavigate the globe in roughly 16 hours. While exaggerated, it spoke volumes about its prowess.

"Understood."

Maki nodded. He fully grasped Giovanni's intentions. If things went south, he wouldn't hesitate to run.

"Of course, Dragonite's appearance won't be necessary under normal circumstances. During the mission, I'll be monitoring you with my psychic abilities. If something happens, I'll step in."

Though it felt a bit like freeloading, Maki's Pokémon were currently far weaker than Sabrina's.

Even without counting her Pokémon, Sabrina herself could effortlessly overpower his Charmander.
