Chapter 117: Pokemon: I Transmigrated Twice [117]
Stephen stood up, pretending to look around, ensuring no one was nearby before leaning in close to Lorelei and whispering:
"Can this be kept between us?"
The tingling sensation in Lorelei's ear made her shiver, and she awkwardly shifted her body, responding softly:
"You... you go first."
"I didn't deceive you; I haven't used Pokémon for experiments."
Stephen's serious expression made it impossible to discern any hint of dishonesty, and indeed, he was telling the truth.
"Nonsense! I just asked Professor Oak, and to complete such an invention, it's absolutely..."
Stephen interrupted: "I did conduct experiments, but the materials weren't Pokémon."
"How is that possible? If not Pokémon, then what... uh!?"
As Lorelei spoke, she finally realized what Stephen might be implying, her expression freezing like she was being choked.
What else could it be?
It was difficult, but could it be...
Lorelei thought of a possibility, her mouth slowly forming an "O."
Stephen glanced around again, ensuring no one was watching, and continued whispering to Lorelei:
"Do you know, Miss Lorelei, that in this world, the genetic compatibility between humans and Pokémon is quite high? It's possible for humans and Pokémon to produce offspring."
"You know how Mr. Riley brought by Steven can use powers similar to those of Pokémon, right?"
Stephen wasn't lying about this either.
Human genetic factors have a high similarity to those of Pokémon.
"In other words, humans, at least in this world, can also be used as materials for Pokémon products."
Lorelei's mouth had widened from a small "o" to a large "O."
"You... you did that?"
Although Lorelei's words seemed like moral condemnation, she was simply shocked.
"Don't worry, the people I used as materials were scum who committed crimes worthy of the death penalty. However, since the Pokémon League doesn't have capital punishment, they're just wasting taxpayers' money. It's better to use them for inventions that benefit humans and Pokémon."
Stephen shrugged:
"Miss Lorelei, don't you have similar thoughts? These people are just languishing in League prisons, wasting resources. The mainstream academic community uses Pokémon like Rattata and Ekans for experiments because they are more aggressive and dangerous, but isn't what I'm doing similar?"
"Those Pokémon, like Rattata and Ekans, are indeed more dangerous than others, but how bad can they be? They might attack humans or steal food, but the people I use have committed crimes that could land them in prison for life. I think my method is more humane than the League's."
After finishing, Stephen extended his hands to Lorelei.
"Miss Lorelei, if you want to arrest me, go ahead. I don't think I've done anything wrong."
Lorelei was stunned.
Not because Stephen was using humans as materials, but because he dared to do so.
When Lorelei was working within the League, she had expressed her opinion about using Pokémon for experiments. However, she was rebuked by her superiors, who pointed out that without such experiments, the medicines she used during her travels wouldn't exist.
Lorelei had often used medicines to treat her Pokémon's injuries, so she couldn't argue against it.
Later, as one of the Elite Four of the Indigo League, Lorelei proposed using criminals for similar purposes but was harshly criticized by Goodshow for being too cruel.
Lorelei had always felt that using Pokémon for experiments wasn't any less cruel.
However, she never expected that someone would do what she had thought about but couldn't bring herself to do.
And now, this person had done it perfectly, to the point of potentially changing the world.
At this moment, Lorelei's gaze at Stephen shifted from cold indifference to admiration, with a hint of fervor.
Looking at Stephen's extended hands, Lorelei found herself shaking them, silently apologizing:
"I'm sorry, Dr. Stephen. I misunderstood you."
Seeing Lorelei bow her head, Stephen also felt a sense of relief.
He had dared to reveal this because he understood Lorelei's character.
At this stage, Lorelei was somewhat like a milder version of Lance—she couldn't tolerate harming Pokémon.
While she wasn't pleased with using Pokémon for experiments, she knew it was a necessary sacrifice for progress.
Just as she was tolerating this, a scientist appeared who didn't use Pokémon but instead used the criminals she despised.
Lorelei was almost ready to exclaim, "You are my god!"
"There's no need to apologize," Stephen said honestly.
"I also love Pokémon."
He did this not just out of habit from his past life but also because he genuinely liked Pokémon.
After experiencing the betrayal of Vegapunk's clone in the One Piece world, Stephen became wary of new characters.
However, Pokémon were different; once they accepted you, they would never betray you.
Although there were Pokémon like Rattata and Ekans, which were used in experiments due to their aggressive nature, Stephen preferred using human scum.
As he told Lorelei, Pokémon might be bad, but humans could be far worse.
"But Dr. Stephen—"
Lorelei was about to speak when Stephen interrupted:
"I've shared my biggest secret with you, Miss Lorelei. Please, just call me by my name."
Lorelei smiled, "Then, Stephen, you shouldn't call me Miss Lorelei either. Just call me by my name."
Even though Stephen had grown tired of beautiful women in his past life, he was momentarily captivated when Lorelei smiled.
Indeed, she was the most electrifying figure in the Pokémon world.
After they shared a laugh, Lorelei continued:
"But to research so many things, you just need a lot of... materials. Where do you get them from?"
Stephen looked embarrassed again, "It's a bit hard to believe, but I acquired them from certain people..."
Lorelei listened and guessed that it might be from organizations like Team Rocket or Team Shadow.
Lorelei expressed her concern:
"Stephen, you should keep your distance from those trash organizations in the future. If you need materials, I can get them for you. Getting too close to them is like plotting with a tiger; promise me, okay?"
Lorelei hated people who colluded with evil organizations, like those tycoons and some senators within the alliance.
However, Stephen was different; he had to deal with those trash organizations to avoid harming Pokémon.
How pitiful.
She must protect this kind-hearted man.
Stephen blinked, feeling as though he had successfully fooled her.
Never mind.
Gaining Lorelei's favor was something many transmigrators dreamed of.
The previous protagonists of the author hadn't even achieved that. (LOL)
During the subsequent flight, Lorelei sat beside Stephen.
She thought Stephen had it tough, carrying so much on his shoulders.
She should talk to him more.
Originally, Goodshow, Agatha, and others hadn't noticed the two.
But seeing Lorelei enthusiastically talking, several elders, along with Lance and his colleague Bruno, were stunned.
What's going on?
Witnessing this scene, Goodshow recalled how Rose had tried to entice Stephen with an adult woman and couldn't help but smile smugly.
Rose, you're still too young.
From the few hours spent flying from the Unova, Stephen wasn't bored because he was chatting with Lorelei.
The others, though seemingly engaged in their activities, were actually like Agatha, perking up her ears to listen in on the conversation between the two.
"Interestingly, Lorelei is being so proactive; I've never seen this before," Agathat said with interest.
As a genius who was widely recognized by the alliance from the start, others usually tried to find topics to please her.
No one had seen Lorelei so enthusiastic.
"What do you think, Lance?"
Agatha raised an eyebrow mischievously at Lance.
"Boring," Lance replied, crossing his arms and turning his face away.
Lance and Lorelei had known each other for ten years.
Even their experiences of obtaining their starter Pokémon were similar.
Lance found a Dratini in a polluted river, while Lorelei discovered a Seel in a polluted water pool.
However, these similar experiences didn't lead to any deeper connection between them.
One reason might be that Lance wasn't interested in women; he was a dragon sexual.
"Ha ha, Stephen, we're almost at Cianwood City. Be careful on the way, and would you like Lorelei to accompany you?"
Goodshow's smile creased his face.
If Stephen and Lorelei could get together, it would be easier to bring him from Alola.
"Chairman!"
Stephen hadn't responded when his secretary rushed over and bowed.
Goodshow waved his hand: "Just speak; everyone here is not an outsider."
The secretary nodded: "Joker's two companions and Team Shadow are fighting each other in the Ilex Forest."
Stephen was taken aback, summarizing his thoughts into a simple "Ah?"
In contrast, Lance's face showed more excitement than shock.
Joker's base was originally in the Johto, so it was normal for him to return after finishing things in the Unova.
Lorelei and others shared the same thought, asking Goodshow's secretary:
"Is it a conflict between Team Rocket and Shadow? How many people are involved?"
In Lorelei's view, conflicts between the two largest criminal organizations in Kanto and the Johto were nothing new.
"Shadow has about 20 people, led by their chief scientist, Elena, and executive, Napus. Team Rocket has only two, Joker's companions, Masked Girl and Caped Pudgy."
Hearing the secretary refer to Will, Stephen almost couldn't suppress a laugh.
"Is Joker not there?"
Lance frowned.
"It's possible that Bugsy, the Gym Leader of the Azalea Gym, didn't see him. Anyway, Bugsy contacted us saying he couldn't stop these groups alone and asked for reinforcements."
"What are we waiting for? Let's go to Azalea Town immediately!"
Lance shouted.
Goodshow nodded to Stephen:
"Sorry, Stephen, we'll send you back later."
"It's fine," Stephen replied, also wanting to see what was happening.
Karen and Will weren't supposed to be dealing with Shadow; they were supposed to catch Kodai.
How did they get involved with Shadow again?
The plane didn't take long to reach the Ilex Forest west of Azalea Town.
The captain's voice came from the intercom:
["Ladies and gentlemen, Azalea Town doesn't have an airport, so we can't land. The nearest airport is..."]
"No need," Lance interrupted, standing up and walking to the door.
"Stand back."
Facing away from everyone, Lance warned before opening the door.
Whoosh!
The strong wind rushed into the cabin, blowing Lance's cloak wildly.
The next second, Lance leaped out, shouting against the wind: "Dragonite!"
The Dragonite emerged from its ball, carrying its trainer as they flew into the forest.
Watching Lance's departing figure, Stephen thought he truly lived up to being the number one tyrant in the Pokémon world.
"I should have caught a flying-type Pokémon," Stephen lamented.
However, he quickly rationalized that he hadn't been in a hurry to catch a flying Pokémon because he usually used a hang glider for transportation.
Now he was in trouble.
"Do you want to go too?"
Lorelei approached and asked.
Stephen quickly came up with a perfect reason, nodding:
"Yes, since Joker defeated Lance with a move we haven't cracked yet if he goes alone, he might get into trouble again. If I can see Joker's battle firsthand, maybe I can discover something."
Goodshow and others nodded in understanding.
Indeed!
"Let's go, together."
Lorelei pushed forward against the strong wind, her beautiful hair blown wildly by the turbulent air. Stephen, who was about to ask for a parachute, was a bit stunned. In his memory, neither games nor comics did Lorelei have a flying-type partner.
"Jynx," Lorelei called out softly, her red lips opening slightly.
A Jynx jumped out of Lorelei's ball on its own.
The next second, Jynx raised her hands.
A pale blue light enveloped Stephen and Lorelei, as well as Jynx herself.
Lorelei's hair, which had been blown about, suddenly stabilized.
It seemed as if a barrier had isolated the fierce wind outside.
"Let's go," Lorelei said, tidying up her slightly disheveled bangs, and Jynx descended.
Instantly, the two of them and Jynx seemed to be supported by an invisible cloud, descending vertically into the forest below like they were in an elevator.
"I forgot about this trick," Stephen said, slapping his forehead.
Truly clever one moment, foolish the next.
He had forgotten that Psychic-type Pokémon could achieve flight by enveloping themselves with their abilities. Didn't the Mewtwo and Mew love doing this?
"Lorelei, call Lance and tell him not to rush so quickly, be careful not to get tricked by Joker again," Stephen said to Lorelei.
Actually, his true intention was to prevent Lance from joining the battle, fearing that Karen and Will might accidentally reveal their weaknesses.
And this reason was flawless, so Lorelei immediately took out her phone to call Lance.
Lance was not pleased when he heard the reason, but when he heard Stephen say on the other end of the line, "Do you want to lose to him again?" he suppressed his anger.
"You're good at persuading him," Lorelei said with a slight smile after hanging up the phone.
She hadn't noticed that she was smiling more and more in front of Stephen.
"Honestly, Lance wouldn't want to lose to Joker three times in a row, right?" Stephen shrugged.
Lorelei had an expression that said she wouldn't laugh unless she couldn't help it. "He's already lost three times. Two years ago, when they first met, Lance lost, but the media..."
"Hey!" Lance arrived, his face looking quite dark.
As soon as he returned, he heard Lorelei talking about his past failures.
He wasn't someone who couldn't handle losing, but there was no need to tell everyone about his dark history, right?
After landing safely in the oak forest, Stephen said:
"Mr. Lance, please use your flying Pokémon to scout Joker and Shadow's location from the air. They must be making a big commotion when they fight."
Lance had no objections, only mentioning as he threw a Poke ball.
While the two were distracted, Stephen quietly threw two Poké Balls into the nearby grass.
In less than five minutes, Lance's Aerodactyl in the sky let out a cry.
Found it!
"Let's go!" Lance commanded.
"Let's go," Lorelei said, turning to look at Stephen.
Stephen nodded and followed.
The two running ahead didn't know that because Karen had shared their location earlier, his two Pokémon had already arrived ahead of time.
...
In less than two minutes, the three of them arrived at the outskirts of the battlefield.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Over a dozen Pokémon were battling in the severely damaged forest.
Karen's voice suddenly rang out:
"I never thought the richest man in the Unova region would be involved with Shadow."
Lance and Lorelei's expressions changed simultaneously.
Stephen made a gesture, signaling them to crouch down.
The three of them crouched behind a bush, peeking through a small opening.
Through the gap, Lance was surprised to see that behind the Shadow members in white uniforms was none other than Kodai, the wealthy man from Unova they had worked with in the Lostlorn Forest, along with his underling Goone and many others.
Involved with Shadow?
When Lance heard Karen's words, his face turned dark.
He wasn't surprised that a financial tycoon was connected to a criminal organization, but he still detested it.
Meanwhile, Stephen's attention was on Elena, the chief scientist of Shadow, who was standing next to Napus, a high-ranking officer of Shadow and a wanted A-level criminal.
Right after, Napus shouted with a not-too-intelligent expression:
"You're here for the Celebi too!?"
Celebi!?
As soon as he said this, Lance and Lorelei's expressions changed dramatically.
