Chapter 51: 51. Ralts? No Kirlia(Part 1)
How was Pikachu caught?
It was knocked unconscious by Luna with a stone and brought back.
Without its consent, it was subdued again by Evan using a Poké Ball.
When Pikachu woke up, it wanted to protest but was met with Evan's intimidating aura, which was downright terrifying.
But now, what was this?
Evan looked like a desperate pleaser! Pikachu glared at him with resentful eyes.
Evan, who was preparing food for Gardevoir and the others, noticed Pikachu's expression.
He sighed, feeling a little disheartened. "What's with that look in your eyes?"
Hearing his voice, Pikachu suddenly became animated.
"Pika~!"
Nothing!
Turning its gaze away, Pikachu grumbled internally. Hmph! You've got a new favorite and forgotten about me, haven't you?
I'm not your beloved partner anymore…
Evan, oblivious to Pikachu's thoughts, gave it a quick once-over to ensure it was fine. Convinced there was nothing wrong, he resumed his work.
Back at the daycare, Evan pulled out some energy cubes he had prepared for Ralts and gave them to the Pokémon to eat. He explained, "This is Ralts' food. I'll prepare more for you tomorrow."
"Gallade, Gardevoir, I'll make specialized energy cubes for you soon. For now, eat these."
While Gardevoir and Kirlia could eat Ralts' food, Gallade needed something different due to its Fighting and Psychic typing. Evan explained this as he handed out the cubes.
The moment Gardevoir and Gallade sniffed the energy cubes, their eyes lit up.
"Gardevoir~~!" Gardevoir exclaimed, her excitement clear.
The aroma was tempting, and their hunger only heightened their anticipation. Without hesitation, they began eating.
Sophia's Ralts also joined in, happily sharing with its siblings. Ralts even began explaining how these energy cubes worked, praising Evan's craftsmanship.
"These are delicious," it seemed to convey as it ate.
Seeing the Pokémon enjoy the food, Evan smiled and allocated two empty rooms for them. Gardevoir shared a room with one Kirlia and Ralts, while Gallade shared with another Kirlia.
Since the Kirlia with Gallade was male, Evan decided he'd find a Dawn Stone soon.
No cross-dressing boss drama here, Evan mused. It'll evolve into Gallade and become my security guard!
This thought lifted Evan's spirits. After taking care of the Pokémon, he retired for the night.
With so many Pokémon under his care now, he couldn't help but feel proud.
That night, Ralts stayed with Gardevoir, leaving Evan with Charmander and Pikachu for company.
However, Pikachu wasn't in a good mood. It seemed preoccupied with something, but Evan didn't dwell on it.
After washing up, he turned off the lights and went to bed.
The next morning, Evan was awakened by rapid knocking at his door.
Pikachu, startled, jumped out of bed and ran to open it.
"Evan, what's going on?"
Isla's voice sounded anxious.
"Why are there so many Pokémon here?" she exclaimed.
She had arrived to find Gardevoir sitting calmly in the yard with two Kirlia and a Ralts.
Not long after, Gallade appeared via Teleport with another Kirlia.
Had Evan raided a Gardevoir nest?!
What's more, the Ralts in the yard wasn't the one she knew.
When one of the Kirlia greeted her, the others simply stared with wary eyes.
The encounter had unnerved Isla enough to run straight to Evan's door.
"Pika?" Pikachu tilted its head, confused by the commotion. Hanging on the door handle, it gave Isla a puzzled look.
Was this all really worth disturbing its sleep?
A spark of electricity flickered across Pikachu's cheeks, crackling with a sharp "Zizi."
It glared at Isla, as if tempted to give her a few jolts as punishment.
"Pikachu, step aside," Evan ordered firmly.
"Brother Evan, get up already!" Isla said, ignoring Pikachu's annoyed display entirely. Instead, she marched past it and headed straight to Evan's bed, ready to pull him up if needed.
Evan was already sitting up, rubbing his eyes. "What's going on?" he asked, his voice groggy.
Isla crossed her arms, looking frazzled. "Those Pokémon outside—what's the deal? They don't seem normal! That Ralts didn't recognize me, but one of the Kirlia greeted me. What's happening here?"
Evan blinked, processing her words. "Oh, those guys? They arrived last night. I caught them."
Isla's brow furrowed deeper. "Caught? Wait a minute… what about Miss Sophia's Ralts? I didn't see it out there."
Evan paused, then realization dawned. "It must have evolved."
He quickly jumped out of bed, grabbing a jacket as he headed for the door. Isla followed him, her expression shifting from confusion to exasperation.
"How could I forget that? Of course, it evolved," she muttered, giving herself a light slap on the forehead. "That explains why it greeted me earlier—it wasn't a Ralts anymore."
By the time she caught up to Evan, he was already in the yard, crouched next to Sophia's Ralts—or rather, Kirlia.
"Oh no, you're Kirlia now, aren't you?" Evan said, smiling at the Pokémon.
"Kirlia~~~!" Kirlia twirled happily, confirming its evolution.
It explained, through its gestures, that it had evolved the previous night. While chatting excitedly with Gardevoir, the sheer joy of the moment triggered the evolution. Now, Kirlia was thrilled about growing closer to becoming like Sister Gardevoir one day.
Evan beamed at the explanation. He quickly took out his phone and snapped a few pictures, sending them to Sophia. Though she didn't reply right away, Evan assumed she was busy or still asleep.
After giving a brief explanation to his customers via text, Evan turned to Isla and Daniel. "Can you two help feed the Pokémon? They're all part of our team now."
"You… caught all of them? Gardevoir, Gallade, and even the Kirlia?!" Isla exclaimed, still processing the sheer number of Pokémon Evan had captured in one night. It was like he had raided an entire nest.
Evan nodded, unfazed by her reaction. "Yep. For now, feed them using Ralts' energy cubes. I'll whip up some exclusive ones for their specific needs later."
Still awestruck, Isla and Daniel got to work, distributing the energy cubes to the Pokémon.
Meanwhile, Evan introduced Gardevoir and Gallade to Isla and the others, explaining that they would help take care of the Pokémon from now on. Once everyone seemed comfortable, Evan left them to finish the feeding as he went to freshen up.
While Evan was in the middle of washing up, the sound of laughter and excited chatter filled the air. The children from the orphanage had arrived, drawn by the sight of so many Pokémon in the yard.
Their faces lit up as they pointed at the Pokémon, practically bouncing with excitement.
"Gardevoir!" one of them exclaimed.
"Kirlia! Look at that Gallade!" another chimed in, their awe palpable.
The Pokémon seemed to enjoy the attention, with Gardevoir and Kirlia offering graceful bows, and Gallade standing tall and proud, its presence commanding admiration from the children.
The yard was alive with joy as the children and Pokémon bonded, filling the morning with laughter and warmth.
"Ralts, are these all your relatives?"
Luna looked at Ralts with curiosity, her head tilted slightly. But it didn't take her long to notice something unusual.
"Huh? Ralts, why are you so shy today?" she asked, confused. Normally, Ralts was much more outgoing, but today, it seemed reserved and timid.
Before Ralts could respond, a Kirlia stepped forward, calling out cheerfully to Luna.
Luna blinked in surprise, then gasped. "Wait, have you evolved?" Her eyes widened in realization.
This Kirlia wasn't just any Kirlia—it was the Ralts that had been at the daycare before. Meanwhile, the shy Ralts must be a new addition!
The newly evolved Kirlia nodded happily, confirming her guess. Then, with enthusiasm, it began introducing the children from the orphanage to the other Pokémon.
Ralts, who had been shy at first, warmed up quickly, enjoying the cheerful energy of the children. Kirlia was delighted, explaining to the group that it had always liked these children. Their innocence and pure hearts made them endearing to the Pokémon.
Gardevoir and the other Pokémon watched the interaction, nodding in approval. Soon enough, the children and Pokémon were playing together, filling the yard with laughter. Some of the younger children hugged Ralts tightly, cuddling it as they played.
After a while, Isla and Daniel brought out the energy cubes, and the Pokémon eagerly gathered to eat their breakfast.
Evan returned from washing up and stopped to take in the scene, the corners of his mouth lifting into a small smile. The sight of everyone getting along so harmoniously put him in a good mood.
After a moment, he spoke up. "Once Gardevoir finishes eating, take them to visit the back mountain," he instructed.
He turned his attention to a Pidgeot that was happily eating nearby. "Pidgeot! These are your new siblings—Gardevoir and Gallade. Get along with them, all right?"
The large bird Pokémon paused mid-bite to glance at Gardevoir and Gallade. After a moment of consideration, Pidgeot gave a decisive nod. It understood that these two were strong, powerful allies. With such capable siblings, it would be wise to stay on their good side.
"Pidgeot~~!" Pidgeot cried obediently, earning a glance of curiosity from Gardevoir.
Gardevoir studied the shiny Pidgeot, intrigued by its unique coloring. It seemed different, much like itself. Gallade, too, couldn't help but notice the resemblance.
"Is this Pidgeot a Shiny, like Gardevoir?" Gallade wondered, its curiosity evident. Regardless, Gallade welcomed Pidgeot warmly, recognizing it as a valuable addition to their team.
After breakfast, Evan asked the orphanage children to take the new Pokémon to visit the orchard, giving them a chance to bond while he got to work.
Evan had a busy day ahead. He not only needed to complete pending orders for energy cubes but also had to prepare customized cubes for Gallade and Gardevoir.
Meanwhile, Sophia finally noticed the message Evan had sent. Seeing the photos of her Ralts, now a Kirlia, her eyes lit up with delight. But when her gaze fell on the Shiny Gardevoir in the photos, her jaw dropped.
"Wait, did Evan catch all of them?" she murmured, utterly shocked. She quickly typed out a message, asking for clarification.
Evan, however, was too focused on his work to check his phone, leaving Sophia's message unanswered. She decided to visit in the afternoon to pick up the energy cubes and see the Pokémon for herself.
While Evan worked in his workshop, Gardevoir and Gallade returned from their outing. Seeing Evan busily preparing ingredients, the siblings approached him with an offer to help.
Evan looked up, smiling at their eagerness. "Alright, Gallade, can you help me with these fruits? Can you peel them?"
Gallade studied the stack of tree fruits in front of him. With a gleam in his eye, he raised his arm. A faint blue aura surrounded the fruits, lifting them into the air.
With precision and speed, Gallade's arm glowed white as he slashed through the fruits, peeling them effortlessly.
"Brush, brush, brush!" The skins fell away neatly, leaving the fruits perfectly prepared.
Evan's eyes lit up at the display. "Not bad! You're really good at this!"
Gallade beamed, pleased with the praise. His efficient work left Evan feeling excited about having such a capable partner.
After quickly replying to explain the situation, Evan stood up and walked out of the room.
"Gallade, Gardevoir, come with me. Let's pick some berries for the energy cubes I'll make for you."
Hearing Evan's words, the two Pokémon immediately stopped what they were doing and followed him eagerly.
As they made their way to the storage area, Evan began explaining his plan to Gallade.
"Gallade, you're a Psychic and Fighting-type Pokémon," he started. "Your primary strength is physical attack, but your special attack lags behind. That's a disadvantage I want to fix."
"I'll create energy cubes tailored to you. These cubes will focus on improving your special attack and speed while still boosting your physical attack. Defense and special defense will also get a minor boost. My goal is to make you a well-rounded warrior."
Gallade nodded thoughtfully. He understood Evan's intentions. Since evolving into Gallade, his Psychic moves had become significantly weaker compared to Gardevoir's. He had gradually started relying more on physical moves, abandoning Psychic attacks.
Improving his Psychic capabilities again seemed like a solid plan.
