"Can they really teach one another?"
"I've heard of trainers teaching their genetic creatures, but genetic creatures teaching each other? That's unheard of," one of the auditors remarked, their tone filled with intrigue. Megan and the others nodded in agreement, clearly astonished.
Ethan, ever the enigma of innovation, offered a knowing smile. His ideas consistently defied convention, each one bringing something fresh and extraordinary to the table.
"Timmy, keep training your younger siblings," Ethan instructed, handing a small treat to the hardworking Pikachu.
Timmy chirped happily, eagerly accepting the snack as the group of Pichus squealed in delight. The tiny Pokémon tumbled over one another, playfully rolling around as they waited for their turn.
"Good morning, everyone." Ethan's tone was calm but sharp, his gaze flicking to Megan as she approached. Her unexpected appearance stirred a trace of unease, residual tension from their prior encounter lingering like a shadow.
"I'm not here to cause trouble this time," Megan said, her voice measured as she noticed Ethan's guarded demeanor. She gestured toward her colleagues. "We're here to review the new species."
Ethan relaxed slightly, nodding. "This way. Today, we're introducing Squirtle."
---
As they approached the nursery, the gentle sound of splashing water echoed through the corridor. Ethan grinned. "Squirtles love water. Luckily, the new lab includes a pool where they can swim freely and stay submerged as much as they like."
The auditors leaned forward as they reached the observation window. In the center of the pool, several blue, turtle-like creatures lounged lazily on sunlit rocks.
"Turtles?" Megan murmured, tilting her head in curiosity.
Their fascination deepened when they noticed a flash of red among the blue. One auditor leaned closer. "Is that... a lizard? And its tail is on fire!"
Ethan chuckled. "That's Charmander. There's only one, and it's not for sale, so it doesn't require your review." His gaze softened as he watched the small flame flicker at the tip of Charmander's tail. "When it was born, its tail was normal. The fire appeared the next day."
He smirked, recalling the chaos when James had panicked and tried to extinguish the flame, mistaking it for an accident. If Ethan hadn't intervened, the situation could have escalated disastrously.
"Why does its tail have a flame?" Megan asked, her curiosity piqued.
Ethan kept the explanation straightforward. "Charmander's flame is a natural reflection of its vitality. It's tied to its health and energy levels."
Before Megan could ask more, a commotion broke out near the pool. One of the Squirtles, affectionately named Hydro, had grabbed Charmander by the shoulders and pulled a small tube of nutrient solution from its shell. Holding it like a cigarette, the mischievous Squirtle took a long, exaggerated "drag."
"Seriously?" Ethan muttered, pinching the bridge of his nose. Hydro had gained a reputation for mischief, often mimicking human behavior for comedic effect. Clearly, it had swiped the nutrient solution while no one was looking.
The auditors erupted into laughter. "That one's got personality!" one of them remarked.
Realizing it had been caught, Hydro quickly shoved the tube into Charmander's mouth and turned away with an exaggerated air of innocence. Ethan shook his head, both amused and exasperated.
---
"Alright, back to business," Ethan said, refocusing the group. "Squirtles are mostly harmless. Their main ability is Water Spout. It's more entertaining than threatening, and they're naturally playful, making them excellent companions for humans."
To demonstrate, Ethan scooped Hydro from the pool. The Squirtle flailed slightly but didn't resist too much.
"Okay, Hydro, show them your Water Spout," Ethan commanded.
"Squirtle!" Hydro whined in protest, but Ethan was unmoved. "Don't think I didn't see you stealing that nutrient solution. If you don't cooperate, there'll be no snacks for a week."
Reluctantly, Hydro hopped onto the edge of the pool. With a deep breath, it opened its mouth wide and unleashed a powerful jet of water. The Water Spout was far stronger than its small frame suggested, creating a fountain-like display that impressed the auditors.
"How does something so small store that much water?" Megan asked, her astonishment evident.
Ethan's expression remained calm as he explained. "Squirtles have a unique internal structure. They can store and compress significant amounts of water in their bodies, releasing it in concentrated bursts when needed."
The auditors exchanged impressed glances, scribbling notes. By now, they had grown accustomed to the unexplainable, a creature with a fiery tail, another with a seemingly endless supply of water. In Ethan's lab, the extraordinary had become the norm.
---
As the review wrapped up, Megan turned to Ethan, her expression thoughtful. "I think I'm starting to understand why you renamed the company Pokémon Biotech."
Ethan smiled, his voice tinged with pride. "Each one is unique. Pichu, Squirtle, Charmander, they're not just creations. They're companions, partners, and the future."
