Chapter 36 Rapid Progress
At this time, Liu Siyan had already returned to school. Without understanding the company's situation, she could only give Xiaofan her father's number after receiving Xiaofan's call.
But after writing down the number, Xiaofan fell silent, as a sudden thought flashed through his mind.
"What's wrong?" Shen Zuimo asked curiously.
"If we tell Uncle Liu about Liu Dongming now, how do you think he will handle it?" The question Xiaofan was struggling with was precisely this.
Liu Dongming was the deputy manager of the finance department at Zhenghua Enterprise, and having been caught cooking the books, he would certainly face consequences. However, Xiaofan wasn't being soft-hearted and letting Liu Dongming off the hook; rather, he was considering whether it might be too soon to investigate Liu Dongming.
"Hello, Uncle Liu? This is Xiaofan. There's something I want to ask you. Do you know Xu Guitian from Minghai Corporation?"
Liu Zhenghua hadn't expected to receive a call from Xiaofan out of the blue, but when he heard about Minghai Corporation from Xiaofan, he was momentarily stunned.
And Xiaofan obtained another crucial piece of information from Liu Zhenghua.
Minghai Corporation is a substantial listed company in H City. They are fierce rivals with Zhenghua Enterprise. Currently, there's a massive land project up for bidding, and among the dozens of competing companies, Minghai and Zhenghua have the greatest strength. The final decision will likely be made between these two firms.
This information opened Xiaofan's mind. Things weren't as simple as they seemed on the surface. Once he connected all the events, even Xiaofan was surprised by the conclusion he reached.
"Xiaofan, did you... discover something?" Liu Zhenghua felt that Xiaofan's sudden mention of Minghai Corporation couldn't be a coincidence.
"It's too early to say, Uncle Liu. Your finance department's deputy manager, Liu Dongming, you should keep him under control for now, but secretly, so he doesn't catch on. I suspect he's been cooking the books, and the evidence is probably in the company's computer. If you find the evidence, don't act on it just yet."
Originally, Xiaofan thought that as long as they found evidence of Liu Dongming's fraudulent accounting, Zhenghua Enterprise's tax evasion issue could be resolved, unfreezing the bank's cash flow, and allowing the factory to resume production immediately. Then they could move on to solve the second problem.
But now, Xiaofan suddenly had a change of heart. Shen Zuimo was right: to catch the bandit, catch the king first. And in this case, it seemed like there were two "kings."
"Liu Dongming? Xiaofan, what you're saying is..." This was such a significant matter that Liu Zhenghua couldn't dare to gamble on the word of an eighteen-year-old.
"I've already found that Liu Dongming's personal account has funds deposited by Xu Guitian from Minghai Corporation. Later, send me your email account, and I'll transfer all the details over. Once we have evidence of Liu Dongming's wrongdoing, unfreezing the funds will only take two days. So, I hope Uncle Liu can give me three days. If there's no progress by then, you can release the evidence." Xiaofan continued.
"Send me what you've found first." Liu Zhenghua wasn't completely distrustful of Xiaofan, but he had to be responsible for his company and consider with a mature mind whether handing over this matter to Xiaofan was feasible.
"Alright."
Both parties acted promptly. Upon receiving the email, Xiaofan immediately sent over the information.
Liu Zhenghua also promptly sat down at his computer to review the information on Liu Dongming's account, as well as Xu Guitian's personal details, and so on.
"Hello, Secretary Wu, issue a notice within the company for a sudden meeting at 3:30 PM for all personnel above deputy manager level."
"Hello, Zhang Cheng, I'll be holding an emergency meeting soon. You don't need to attend. Stay in the department and verify all the accounts Liu Dongming previously managed. I'll give you one hour."
"Brother Xu, take me to the company."
After dialing three consecutive calls, Liu Zhenghua gently placed the phone down. During the few minutes while Uncle Xu was fetching the car, he pondered how Ye Xiaofan had managed to find out so much.
Holding a meeting was entirely a ruse, intended to give the finance department manager, Zhang Cheng, enough time to find evidence on Liu Dongming's computer. Even if the computer had a password, an hour was enough to crack it.
An hour later, when the evidence was indeed placed on the desk in Liu Zhenghua's office, he simply waved his hand to signal Zhang Cheng to keep it confidential. Then he dialed Xiaofan's number.
"Xiaofan, three days. I'm counting on you."
"Oh, don't worry, Uncle Liu."
With so much information gathered in less than half a day, what kind of surprise could this young man named Xiaofan bring three days later?
Having gained Liu Zhenghua's approval, Xiaofan didn't have time to revel in his success before he had to start considering the second problem.
The second problem concerned the warehouse goods receipts. If neither the buyer nor the seller had issues, then it was a problem with the stamp on the receipts. This meant the issue likely lay with the relevant regulatory agency.
If this batch of goods couldn't be returned to the production line quickly, failing to deliver on time would breach the contract, resulting in a hefty penalty fee.
"Hey, Xiaofan, where are you going?" Watching Xiaofan prepare to head out, Shen Zuimo asked curiously.
"To stakeout." This word coming from Xiaofan's mouth was quite something—after all, he was just a high school student. Stakeouts were something he only knew from movies.
"Oh, take out the lead block."
"Oh, alright."
But undeniably, with only three days left, Xiaofan had to make the most of every minute.
What he planned to do was to wait outside the tax bureau where Zhang Yongchang was, lying in wait. Zhang Yongchang was undoubtedly one of the masterminds behind this matter, and they would surely maintain contact. There were many ways to communicate, but Xiaofan believed there were some things that needed to be discussed face-to-face, and it had to be in a secret location.
At 8 PM, Xiaofan returned home drenched in sweat, and upon entering, he swung open the fridge and gulped down a bottle of mineral water.
But when he realized it, three pairs of bright eyes were watching him in his home.
"Y-you, why are you here?" Xiaofan was startled to find unexpected guests at his home, instantly freezing in place with shock.
Among these three people, one was naturally Shen Zuimo, and the other two were Liu Siyan and Xiaofan's junior high class president: Chen Mengying.
How had these two suddenly come to his home? And why hadn't Shen Zuimo hidden himself, but instead sat on the couch with them?
"Xiaofan, your two classmates came to find you. Your phone was off, and they couldn't find you anywhere," Shen Zuimo said gently.
"Huh? Oh, it ran out of power. I forgot to charge it today. But, why did you all come?" Xiaofan calmed his mind. Shen Zuimo's presence was strange, but a small lie should cover it. Besides, since Shen Zuimo had opened the door to let them in, he probably wasn't worried about being exposed in front of them.
"I-I was just a bit worried about you, but I didn't know where you lived, so I asked Meng Ying to bring me," Liu Siyan said, blushing, her voice stammering. Her charming gaze flitted around, after all, it was her first time at Xiaofan's home. And there was the presence of outsiders between the two.
