Percy Jackson and The Wizarding World

Chapter 6: Chapter 6: The Basilisk’s Whisper

Percy cautiously followed the slithering shadow through the dimly lit Hogwarts corridors, his wand glowing faintly in his hand. Every instinct screamed at him to turn back, but his demigod gut told him he needed to see this through. If there was something prowling Hogwarts, he had to stop it—no matter what.

"Just another day in the life of Percy Jackson," he muttered under his breath.

He rounded a corner and found himself standing in a long, narrow corridor lined with stone snake carvings. The air was thick with dampness, and an eerie whisper echoed through the passage. Percy's grip tightened on his wand.

Hurry… find them… destroy the enemies of the Heir…

The words slithered around him like a living presence. Percy swallowed hard. "Creepy disembodied voices? Yeah, that's usually a bad sign."

Before he could take another step, a faint scuttling noise made him whip around. Something—or someone—was watching him.

"Who's there?" Percy called out, his voice echoing.

Silence.

Then, from the shadows, a small figure emerged, clutching what looked like a ragged sock. Dobby the house-elf stared up at Percy with wide, tennis-ball eyes.

"Percy Jackson must not be here!" Dobby whispered urgently, wringing his hands. "He is in great danger, sir! Great, terrible danger!"

Percy blinked. "Dobby? What are you—wait, you know who I am?"

Dobby nodded furiously. "Oh, yes! Dobby knows of the great Percy Jackson, hero of Olympus! The wizarding world whispers of the American demigod who fights monsters! But master must not meddle in things he does not understand!"

Percy knelt down, eyeing the jittery elf carefully. "Alright, calm down. What do you know about the thing that's slithering around down here?"

Dobby's ears drooped. "Dobby cannot say! The monster is ancient… powerful… it sleeps no more! Master Jackson must leave before he is seen!"

Percy frowned. "Seen by who? The monster?"

Dobby shook his head frantically. "By him! The one who commands the beast! The heir! Dobby cannot—"

A sudden loud hiss filled the corridor, cutting off the house-elf. Dobby yelped and vanished with a crack, leaving Percy alone as the whispering intensified.

I smell the scent of a foreigner… another trespasser in my domain…

Percy's instincts screamed at him to move, but his legs felt like lead. The air grew heavy, and a dark shape slithered into view from the end of the corridor.

It was massive.

Golden, slit-like eyes glowed in the darkness, and scales scraped against stone. Percy's heart pounded as the creature revealed itself—a basilisk, its forked tongue flickering hungrily in the air.

Percy immediately shut his eyes tight. Crap, crap, crap! Don't look it in the eyes!

He felt the ground tremble beneath him as the serpent advanced. Every myth and legend about basilisks raced through his mind, and none of them offered much comfort. He could hear its breathing, slow and predatory.

Think, Jackson, think!

An idea hit him, and he raised his wand. "Aguamenti!" he whispered.

A blast of water shot from the tip, hitting the floor and splashing up onto the serpent's massive body. The basilisk hissed in surprise, retreating slightly from the sudden deluge. Percy took his chance, sprinting backward, his feet splashing through the water.

He didn't stop until he reached the top of the dungeon stairs, slamming the heavy wooden door behind him and pressing his back against it, panting heavily.

"That," he muttered to himself, "was way too close."

The Next Morning – Gryffindor Common Room

"So, let me get this straight," Harry said, leaning forward with wide eyes. "You saw the basilisk? The one from the legends?"

Percy nodded grimly, tossing a grape into his mouth from his breakfast plate. "Yep. Big, scaly, and terrifying. You guys weren't kidding about Hogwarts being dangerous."

Hermione paled. "But if it's real, that means the Heir of Slytherin might be here. And that means…" she trailed off, the unspoken words hanging between them.

"Someone's controlling it," Percy finished. "And they're not exactly using it to cuddle kittens."

Ron looked like he was about to be sick. "And you're sure it didn't… you know, look at you?"

Percy shook his head. "Kept my eyes shut. Trust me, turning into stone isn't on my bucket list."

Hermione bit her lip, her mind already racing with theories. "We have to tell Professor McGonagall."

Percy leaned back. "Yeah, because I can totally explain why I was sneaking around the dungeons in the first place. That'll go over great."

Harry crossed his arms. "Then what do we do?"

Percy sighed, running a hand through his hair. "We figure out who this 'Heir' guy is before he decides to make Hogwarts his personal hunting ground."

Hermione frowned. "But how? We have no leads."

Percy thought for a moment. "Maybe we don't have leads… but I know someone who might."

Ron looked confused. "Who?"

Percy smirked. "A certain annoying blonde ferret who knows a lot more than he lets on."

Harry's eyes widened. "Malfoy."

"Exactly."

Later – Slytherin Common Room (Undercover Mission)

Percy had seen some weird things in his life, but sneaking into the Slytherin common room disguised under a stolen invisibility cloak definitely ranked up there.

Harry had provided the cloak, and now Percy stood quietly in the shadows as Malfoy lounged by the fireplace, bragging to his cronies Crabbe and Goyle.

"I told you, my father knows who the Heir of Slytherin is," Malfoy whispered. "It's just a matter of time before he finishes what he started."

Percy's grip on his wand tightened.

Crabbe grunted. "So… it's happening soon?"

Malfoy smirked. "Oh, very soon. You'll see."

Percy took a deep breath, his heart pounding. Alright, Malfoy, just keep talking…

But before he could hear more, a sharp voice cut through the air. "Who's there?!"

Percy froze as Professor Snape strode into the common room, his black eyes scanning the room suspiciously. For a terrifying moment, Percy thought the cloak had slipped.

Malfoy paled. "N-no one, sir. Just us."

Snape's eyes lingered near Percy's hiding spot for a moment before he turned on his heel. "Get to bed. All of you."

As the Slytherins scattered, Percy slipped out of the common room, his mind racing with what he had learned.

Something big is coming.

And Percy Jackson had a feeling it was going to be monstrous.
