Chapter 17: Chapter 17 Your Complexity_1
Nan Feng let out a sigh of relief, grateful that Ye Ge hadn't considered the possibility of time travel.
"But I have never been to Capital City, not even to the town nearby," Nan Feng laughed.
"That's why I say, you're no ordinary person, you can accept things that the women in the village can't."
"So you show me your extraordinary side, like your archery skills and your Martial Arts?" Nan Feng laughed slyly.
"Aren't you the same?" Ye Ge looked at her, his tone carrying a hint of flirtation, "You displayed your extraordinary side to me on the mountain last time, for instance, your killing intent."
An uneasy feeling suddenly washed over Nan Feng as the conversation took this turn.
It felt as though they were flirting.
So, eager to divert the conversation back on track, she asked: "What did you do before coming to Da Ping Village?"
Ye Ge thought for a moment: "I was an escort. A few months ago, I was entrusted to protect a large escort, but we were cornered by a powerful gang of bandits, losing everything. My brothers all died, and I didn't have the face to go back."
Nan Feng scrutinized Ye Ge one more time before smiling and saying, "Whether what you said is true or not, I can assure you that you are a good person. There are things you don't say, and things I don't ask about."
Back in her previous life, Nan Feng had also worked as a special agent and an undercover operative. The interrogation skills she had developed made her understand that the story Ye Ge told might not be entirely true, but also not entirely false.
Then she began practicing archery, but as she had never trained before, she was unable to get a hang of it after several tries. Besides, one needs considerable strength to draw a bow, something her body couldn't handle yet.
"Ye Ge, How about I borrow your spear for going up the mountain? I won't use the bow and arrow yet. Once I've mastered it, I'll borrow it from you," Nan Feng began fiddling with the spear.
Ye Ge asked, "You're going up the mountain now?"
"Yes, I'll collect some wild vegetables while I'm out there. We've just paid our grain tax, and food is getting scarce at home," Nan Feng said with a smile.
"Do you need me to accompany you?"
"No need, haven't you been repairing the roof these past few days? I won't bother you more."
Upon finishing her sentence, she saw Second Uncle Zhou return, carrying a bundle of fresh green vegetables. He must have just come back from the vegetable field.
Seeing Nan Feng, Second Uncle Zhou seemed taken aback.
He'd heard plenty of gossip around the village, with everyone saying that Nan Feng had taken a fancy to Ye Ge after recovering from her illness. He thought it was just baseless rumors, but here was Nan Feng, appearing in person.
Nan Feng greeted Second Uncle Zhou, "Second Uncle, you've just come back? These vegetables look fresh, did you grow them?"
"Ha, Ye Ge grew them. I just picked some."
Seeing Second Uncle Zhou's curious gaze, Nan Feng quickly made an excuse to leave, "Second Uncle, I have something to do on the mountain. I'll go now, and will visit you another day."
Second Uncle Zhou teased her, "Oh? Which day will that be?"
"That…" Nan Feng glanced at Ye Ge, relieved to see he had no reaction, then said, "I'm not sure, Second Uncle. I really have to go now."
Nan Feng left in a hurry.
Second Uncle Zhou chuckled watching her retreating back, then glanced at Ye Ge.
But Ye Ge had already climbed up on the roof, hammering away, effectively blocking Second Uncle's gossip thoughts.
...
Nan Feng arrived at the mountain with Ye Ge's spear.
She found the spear quite useful. It could function as a walking stick when climbing, and could be used to tackle prey in the deep woods.
But the spear had its limitations, it was only effective for close range combat, not suitable for long-range attacks. It seems that when she had time, she should ask Ye Ge to teach her archery again.
But Nan Feng did have her strengths.
