Overlord: The Multiverse

Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Eternal Damnation

"Oh, it seems Shalltear was the first to arrive," Albedo observed as she made her way toward us, her eyes shifting to Shalltear with a hint of competitive playfulness.

Shalltear straightened her posture and gave Albedo a smug smile. "Of course, Albedo. As Alex-sama's most dedicated guardian, it's only natural I'd be here first."

Albedo rolled her eyes, a slight smile playing on her lips as she dismissed Shalltear's remark. She then turned her attention back to me, her expression softening with warmth. "It's wonderful to see you back at your home, Alex-sama."

Behind Albedo, Demiurge and Cocytus followed closely. Demiurge had an unusually wide smile on his face, his eyes glinting with pride and anticipation. It was clear he was eager to present his latest creation.

"Welcome back, Alex-sama," Demiurge greeted with a respectful bow, his voice tinged with excitement. "I trust your time in the Underworld was fruitful. We've been eagerly awaiting your return to show you what we've been working on."

Cocytus, towering over the others with his massive, armored form, gave a deep nod. "Indeed. Lord. Alex. Demiurge's. New. Creation. Is. Impressive. A testament. To. His. Genius."

I returned their greetings with a nod, feeling the familiar comfort of being among my loyal guardians. "Thank you, everyone. It's good to be back. I'm looking forward to seeing this new Sacred Gear that Demiurge has created."

Demiurge's grin widened, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "I am honored by your interest, Alex-sama. If you would please follow me, I shall present it to you now."

With that, Demiurge led the way toward the raised platform in the center of the amphitheater.

He reached into the air, and with a flourish of his hand, an energy ball appeared, glowing with a mysterious, pulsating light. It floated above his palm, shimmering with a mix of vibrant colors that seemed to shift and dance within its form.

I studied the energy ball with interest. "Hmm, interesting," I murmured, intrigued by its appearance and the power it seemed to radiate. The Sacred Gear certainly looked different from any that I had encountered before.

Demiurge nodded, his expression proud. "As you know, Alex-sama, I've already given a detailed report about its functions to Albedo for you to review. This Sacred Gear, which we've named Eternal Damnation, possesses a unique set of abilities unlike any other."

He carefully extended his hand, offering the energy ball to me. "Please, take it, Alex-sama," he said, his voice filled with anticipation. "Feel its power for yourself."

I reached out and took the Sacred Gear from Demiurge's hand, feeling a rush of energy surge through me as I absorbed it. The moment I did, my system made an announcement:

[You have equipped Sacred Gear: Eternal Damnation]

I felt a pulse of power spread through my body, and my system quickly reviewed the information about the gear.

This Sacred Gear, Eternal Damnation, had three distinct abilities: Blood Dominion, Beast Manifestation, and the one that intrigued me the most, Curse of Eternal Damnation.

This is something I already knew from Albedo's report.

Even though I was eager to test out the Curse of Eternal Damnation right away, I hesitated. There wasn't anyone present who I could use as a test subject. I could, of course, summon a blood beast to test the ability, but even then, would that truly capture the full potency of this curse? Testing it on a summoned creature wouldn't provide the same insights as using it in an actual combat scenario.

Despite my interest in the Curse of Eternal Damnation, I had no intention of equipping this Sacred Gear permanently. While it possessed unique abilities, I was certain that Demiurge, with his genius and creativity, would eventually develop even more powerful Sacred Gears. I also had to consider that Eternal Damnation didn't provide any physical enhancements.

In my pursuit of strength and versatility, I needed tools that offered a complete package—both unique abilities and physical boosts. For now, Eternal Damnation would remain an intriguing option to explore, but it wouldn't be my main focus. I would keep it in reserve, ready to be called upon when its specific powers would be most advantageous. And I would wait patiently for Demiurge's next creation, confident that it would surpass even this one.

Just then my system give out an notifications.

[From the complete analysis of Sacred Gear: Eternal Damnation, it is observed that the Sacred Gear possesses impurity within it.]

[It is recommended to buy an Artifact Refinery from the system store and use it on the Sacred Gear.]

Artifact Refinery

Price: 5,000 Karma Points

Description: An item used to refine any and all artifacts, removing impurities and enhancing their abilities.

Uses: One time use

Damn, it's Expensive!!

I needed to be sure this purchase was worth it. "Hey, System," I inquired, "after refining the Sacred Gear, does it gain any new powers or something?"

[No, it does not gain new powers. However, refining removes any impurities, allowing the Sacred Gear to be equipped by anyone, regardless of their strength level, without corrupting or adversely affecting the wearer.]

I paused to think about that. Eternal Damnation had a significant drawback mentioned in Albedo's report: it could corrupt weaker users, overwhelming them with its dark powers. That was a major disadvantage, especially if we needed to equip someone not as strong to use it effectively in a strategic situation.

"Ah, so refining it would prevent the Sacred Gear from corrupting a weaker wearer,"
