Chapter 675: Farming 3
She wasn't feeling sorry for Grandpa, but rather for the field itself. Hopefully, Grandpa, who knows nothing about it, wouldn't ruin the Spirit Fields.
With this simple thought in mind, the grandmother took out two more seeds and gave one each to Dorothy and her granddaughter. She also took out a seed herself and explained everything in detail once again, then encouraged them to give it a try with her eyes.
The little granddaughter seemed scared from the previously bewitched seeds and was a bit hesitant to try. She just secretly watched Dorothy.
The homebody witch, of course, wasn't intimidated. Are you kidding? She's a pro at farming.
Right then, she skillfully infused her magic power to activate the seed in her hand, and then.....
Then nothing happened. The seed turned over silently, not paying her any heed.
Dorothy: "????"
Seriously, I just got dissed by a seed, can you believe that?
The homebody witch, a vein popping on her forehead, gathered her magic power, intending to use an advanced magic potion cultivation process on this uncooperative seed, turning it into whatever shape she wanted.
But before she could act, the grandmother took the seed from her hand and smiled, encouraging her.
"Grandpa, maybe you're just born for this.... oops, what I meant was, you really do have a talent for farming. This seed likes your strength very much, so it's a bit greedy and wants to take more."
Saying this, the grandmother tapped the seed, and suddenly it sprouted, with a small goldfish popping out and wagging its tail at Dorothy.
"Haha, Grandpa, this little guy is a bit shy."
Dorothy: "?????"
The homebody witch was genuinely stunned this time, looking at the grandmother in shock.
Wow, what kind of magic is this, being able to communicate with plants?
In the Witch World, there are quite a few intelligent plants, but it was clear that this Japanese crop known as Fish Grass wasn't supposed to be one of them. It's supposed to be a low-intelligence spirit plant; otherwise, it wouldn't be used as a food crop.
Dorothy had eaten this Fish Grass before. It looked like fish, but its texture was more like tofu, very tender, melting in the mouth, quite delicious.
"Grandma, does this Fish Grass have thoughts?"
Dorothy couldn't help but ask.
"Of course not."
The grandmother replied as if it was obvious.
"But plants are life too, and as long as it's life, there's always a heart. Although Fish Grass doesn't have intelligence, I've been growing it all my life, so I can barely understand their emotions and needs."
The old lady was patting the Fish Grass in her hand, and the silly little fish affectionately nudged her fingers.
"In fact, everyone says my Fish Grass is the fattest and best, and many ask me for secrets, but I really have no secret. Initially, I just thought we grow this Fish Grass to eat, so it's only right to take good care of them until harvest."
"But later I realized that what we harvest is actually just bodies. Fish Grass perishes after the mother plant produces seeds, so they're quite short-lived. But if I can make their brief life comfortable and happy, why not?"
"Moreover, Fish Grass that dies happily seems to taste better."
The grandmother openly shared her unique technique.
"Huh, do plants have a heart too?"
Dorothy looked down at the seeds, lost in thought, and after a long while, she looked up earnestly at the old lady in front of her, sincerely seeking guidance.
"Grandma, I want to learn how to farm."
And so, the homebody witch farmed for a day.
....Dorothy raising fish....
