Chapter 52 - Archaeology
Ghost Princess disappeared and did not return again. Her mission was over, so she could go wherever she wanted, and no one could bind her anymore.
Wu Ge returned to the research station and asked Xiao Chao, “How long have I been away? What has happened during this time?”
Xiao Chao replied, “You have been away for twenty-three days. On the fifteenth day, the Fox Immortal went to Kunlun Mountains with the Dragon Ascension Order. Three days later, she brought back the Dragon Saliva Grass, which can be used for alchemy, along with an important piece of information.”
Wu Ge asked, “What information?”
Xiao Chao answered, “The Kunlun Immortal Land is empty.”
Wu Ge raised an eyebrow. Not only the underworld but the Kunlun Immortal Land is empty as well?
Wu Ge then asked, “What is the Fox Immortal doing now?”
Xiao Chao replied, “She is currently making Dragon Saliva Pills. The Dragon Saliva Grass needs to be processed into pills quickly after being harvested because it does not preserve well.”
Wu Ge was somewhat surprised and asked, “She knows how to make pills? She never mentioned it.”
Wu Ge had heard from Ghost Princess that the Netherworld Lotuses he brought back could be used to make Seven-Turn Gold Pills. Although he didn’t know the effects of these pills, he knew they were extraordinary. If the Fox Fairy knew how to make them, then the materials he brought back would be useful.
Wu Ge inquired, “Where is the Fox Fairy now?”
Xiao Chao answered, “She is in Warehouse No.1, helping me identify various useful materials and making Dragon Saliva Pills.”
Wu Ge was familiar with these warehouses. They were part of the human heritage collected by Xiao Chao after humanity’s decline. It built mechanical cities on the ruins of every city, and the possessions of every person in each city were collected, ranging from ordinary items like phones, TVs, and computers to valuables like gold, pearls, and antiques.
However, Xiao Chao just collected these items without checking the contents of the phones or computers, except for those of scientists. It saved and studied documents hidden by the FBI of the M country, such as Tesla’s notes and UFO records.
Tesla was a remarkable person, and his scientific hypotheses were still useful even two hundred years later. Those notes were considered essential reading material for a group of scientists led by Xiao Luo.
Wu Ge returned to the base and prepared to go to Warehouse No.1. Xiao Chao had already informed Xiao Luo, Fox Immortal, and Sister Ya Yi of Wu Ge’s return, which relieved them.
They were all shocked to hear that the Underworld was empty.
When Wu Ge arrived at the entrance of Warehouse No.1, which is underground and roughly the size of a hundred-story building, and there are more warehouses like it.
If Wu Ge needed any materials or wanted any antiques, Xiao Chao would retrieve them from the warehouse. However, storing money, gold, silver, jewels, antiques, and furniture, which had lost their value two hundred years after humanity disappeared, seemed pointless.
Wu Ge was surprised to find that treasures like the Dragon Ascension Order and Dust Avoiding Cloak were also collected by Xiao Chao.
Wu Ge entered the elevator of Warehouse No.1, where the Fox Immortal was on the 72nd floor, in room 72-58.
The warehouse was systematically organized into many rooms, not just piled up haphazardly. Different rooms stored different items, some at extremely low temperatures for corrosive materials, some were sterile, and others were dry rooms with zero humidity.
Wu Ge went directly to the waiting room on the 72nd floor. Upon entering, he saw the Fox Immortal sitting and looking at something. He asked, “Fox Immortal, what are you looking at?”
The Fox Immortal was startled and quickly hid what she was looking at behind her back, looking panicked, “Nothing, I’m not looking at anything!”
Wu Ge was puzzled, wondering if it could be an adult book from 200 years ago.
He asked, “What are you hiding behind your back?”
The Fox Immortal stretched out her hands, saying, “I’m not hiding anything!”
Wu Ge pointed at the nine fluffy reddish-brown tails behind her, “What’s in your tails?”
The Fox Immortal quickly stood up, “Nothing!”
“Clatter!” A metallic object fell to the ground, making a crisp sound.
Wu Ge saw the object that had fallen to the ground and was somewhat stunned. It was a rectangular object with a metal case on one side and a screen on the other, which was still glowing.
Rubbing his temples, Wu Ge pondered for a moment and then asked, “Is this… a smartphone?”
With humanity gone for two hundred years and technology advancing rapidly, smartphones had been phased out. They now used a device called a “neural connection device.” Worn around the neck, it projected various types of data onto the retina, eliminating the need for physical manipulation as everything was controlled by thought, allowing direct access to virtual worlds.
Because smartphones were phased out so quickly, Wu Ge didn’t immediately recognize the metal object.
Wu Ge approached, “Is this a smartphone from two hundred years ago? Whose is it?”
The Fox Immortal picked up the phone, which had a pink charm attached, suggesting it might have belonged to a young woman.
Awkwardly handling the smartphone, she said, “It belonged to a human female, about eighteen years old. I was looking through her chat records and the diary entries in her notepad.”
Wu Ge couldn’t help but say, “Hey, don’t snoop, that’s someone’s privacy.”
After saying this, Wu Ge put on his neural connection device and connected a universal data cable to the smartphone’s port, which could transfer the phone’s information into the neural connection device.
Fox Immortal: “…”
So much for not snooping.
As he transferred the data, Wu Ge asked, “Is there anything special in the contents of this phone?”
The Fox Immortal replied, “Nothing too special. She was a quiet child who wrote down her thoughts in her phone. It seems she had a crush on a boy and planned to confess to him after graduation, but for some reason, she never did.”
Wu Ge nodded, “I see.”
The data had been fully imported, and Wu Ge was now rapidly scanning the contents saved on the phone with his brain.
Two hundred years ago, people used keyboards and mice, so it was called hand speed. But in this era, with the use of neural connection devices, it was referred to as brain speed.
As Wu Ge looked through the notebook of this girl from over two hundred years ago, he couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of reflection, almost like he was doing archaeology.
This made Wu Ge sigh, wondering how two hundred years could pass by just like that.
