Chapter 50 - The Underworld Collapses
This woman in white is not human; she is likely one of the minor spirit races common in the Underworld, so Wu Ge does not know much about their lifespan. And since they are beings of the Underworld, they definitely do not possess physical bodies.
This made Wu Ge wonder, do souls age and die too?
Wu Ge remained silent for a long time, unsure of what to say. The woman in white looked at Wu Ge and suddenly asked with confusion, “Who are you?”
Startled, Wu Ge replied, “I am a human, a human who entered here by mistake. My name is Wu Ge.”
The woman nodded, then plucked a lotus flower, saying, “Eat this petal, then leave.”
Wu Ge found it very strange. He thought, what’s happening? Why is she repeating what she said to me before?
Wu Ge asked, “Do you have a memory problem?”
The woman spaced out, her body swaying again. She swayed left and right, and eventually disappeared. Wu Ge really worried she would truly disappear, but half an hour later, she came back and said, “I can’t remember many things. My soul has aged.”
Wu Ge asked, “Is there no way to extend your life?”
The woman swayed, then said, “No, the aging of the soul is incurable.”
Wu Ge suddenly fell silent. After a long while, he said, “Do you want to leave the Underworld? To go outside.”
There’s nothing in the Underworld, and time flows so quickly; staying here is meaningless.
The woman shook her head, “I cannot leave. I have a task. I must care for this pond of Rebirth Lotus.”
Wu Ge asked, “Then what? Who are you caring for this pond of Rebirth Lotus for?”
The woman swayed, saying, “I don’t know. My task is to care for the Rebirth Lotus until it can no longer grow. Once that happens, my task is completed.”
Wu Ge thought for a long time, then said, “I will harvest all the Rebirth Lotus. That way, you’ll have no more tasks, and you can go wherever you want.”
The woman suddenly fell silent, not swaying anymore. After a long while, she said, “If that’s the case, I want to go to the moon. The moon is beautiful.”
The moon?
Wu Ge thought of the white shadow he had seen walking alone under the moon on the surface. Could that shadow have been her? Wu Ge asked, “The Underworld doesn’t have a moon?”
The woman said, “The Underworld has no moon or sun. That sun is an artifact. If you’re going to take the Rebirth Lotus, you might as well take that artifact too. Otherwise, when the Underworld collapses, everything will turn to nothing.”
Wu Ge looked up at the sky, surprised that the sun was actually an artifact, not a real sun. What kind of artifact could serve as the sun of the Underworld and shine over it for so long?
“How can I obtain that artifact?” Wu Ge asked.
The woman swayed, then disappeared.
Wu Ge did not understand what was wrong with her; her form seemed highly unstable. After a while, she would disappear and instantaneously move to another place. But every so often, she would return here since she was responsible for caring for the Rebirth Lotus.
Wu Ge did not wait too long, about ten minutes later, the woman returned. The moment she came back, the sun in the sky suddenly vanished, and the entire Underworld became pitch dark, but in the woman’s hand was an incredibly dazzling great sword.
This great sword was at least two meters long, entirely golden, with the blade shimmering with scorching red light.
Wu Ge asked, “Is this the sun?”
The woman replied, “This is a divine sword forged from solar essence, refined over countless ages. It has finally become a sacred weapon. If you drive it with the True Dragon Qi, it will unleash unparalleled power!”
Wu Ge asked, “What do you mean by ‘sacred weapon’?”
The woman replied, “Weapons are divided into five levels: mortal weapons, treasure weapons, spirit weapons, divine weapons, and sacred weapons. This golden essence sword was forged by a powerful being, making it a divine weapon from the start. After countless years of refinement, it finally became a sacred weapon, no less inferior to the human race’s Yellow Emperor Sword.”
The woman seemed very familiar with this weapon, adeptly introducing the great sword. However, after a moment, her expression became vacant again, as if she was puzzled about how she knew these things.
Wu Ge took the sword, and immediately, he felt an endless scorching aura from it, as well as a sense of vicissitudes that only countless years could impart.
Upon thinking, the golden essence sword merged into Wu Ge’s body, emitting a warm aura that nourished Wu Ge’s soul, making him feel as if he was standing in warm sunlight.
The woman said in a daze, “Without the golden essence sword to suppress it, the Underworld will collapse even faster. You should leave quickly!”
Wu Ge waved his hand and harvested all the Rebirth Lotus with his spiritual power, then said, “You should come with me. I can take you to the moon.”
The woman swayed, saying, “You’re not capable of doing that, and neither am I…”
Wu Ge interrupted, “I might not be able to, but technology can. Come with me!”
The woman, still in a daze, did not speak. She didn’t understand what Wu Ge meant by technology, but she still followed him. Wu Ge immediately took out the golden essence sword, then used it as a flying sword. This golden essence sword was fundamentally different from his Star Space Sword.
His sword was smaller, without a hilt, but this great sword was very large and heavy, with the hilt and blade being one solid piece, shimmering in gold. A scorching energy circulated within the sword, causing the blade to emit a blazing red glow.
Wu Ge had to utilize the True Dragon Qi to drive this great sword; his spiritual power alone was not enough. Once flying on the great sword, the woman in white closely followed behind him.
She seemed to possess the ability to teleport, so no matter how fast Wu Ge flew, she could keep up.
The two took off, leaving the lotus pond, passing through the empty Underworld, along the dried-up River of Forgetfulness, turning at the collapsed Bridge of Helplessness, and headed back via the Path of the Yellow Springs.
On their way, they flew past the perpetually frozen ice mountains, over the constantly erupting volcanoes, and finally, they saw the iron gate that marked the boundary.
That was the Underworld Gate.
As they approached the Underworld Gate, the atmosphere within the Underworld began to change. First, the ground started to crack, and the sky shattered like a broken mirror, falling in pieces. The entire Underworld began to shake.
The Underworld was collapsing!
