Only I Walk Alone

Chapter 29 - Reasonable Mediation, Winning Hearts with Virtue

Under the efforts of Wu Ge and Xiao Luo, the first man-made spacecraft was finally constructed, but it had significant flaws and exploded on its first test flight.

The construction process of the spacecraft was flawless; the issue lay in the design. Following the parameters and interpretations provided by Xiao Chao, Wu Ge and Xiao Luo began adjustments. However, their second spacecraft also encountered malfunctions. Although it did not explode, the problems were severe.

Thus began Wu Ge and Xiao Luo’s lengthy journey of spacecraft design.

In the third year, they successfully designed a functional manned spacecraft. Although its appearance was not impressive, its practicality was high. It was about the size of a basketball court, unable to travel back and forth through the atmosphere, but it could dock at the space station in Earth’s orbit.

By the fifth year, they had improved this spacecraft, not only increasing its size but also adding weapons like machine guns, missiles, lasers, and turrets. Its appearance was also modified.

In the tenth year, they finally designed a manned spacecraft capable of atmospheric re-entry. This spacecraft was as large as a football field, equipped with a life support system, various weapons, robot guards, robot maids, and drones. Its appearance was also very cool.

They named this spacecraft the Lone Falcon.

The Lone Falcon was not only the achievement of Wu Ge and Xiao Luo. The Fox Immortal and Sister Meii, who had learned the relevant aerospace knowledge, also contributed to the design. The combined wisdom of the four individuals led to the creation of such a spacecraft.

After Xiao Chao’s shipyard built the Lone Falcon and successfully completed its test flight, everyone was able to relax.

Currently, they had not yet broken through controlled nuclear fusion technology and could only use nuclear fission engines.

Nuclear fusion technology is essential for space travel because, in space, the fuel for nuclear fusion is readily available, unlike the fuel for nuclear fission, which is hard to find. Unfortunately, the once six-billion-strong human civilization spent countless years without mastering this technology, and now it seemed unlikely that just four people could grasp it quickly.

There was a severe shortage of manpower!

This was the current concern of Wu Ge and Xiao Chao. In ten years, the uncontrolled breeding of the werewolf race doubled their numbers, but their intelligence remained at the level of primitive humans. Although they could be taught to use high-tech products, they could not create anything new on their own.

After decades of observation, Xiao Chao mentioned, “The werewolf race seems to have a fundamental difference from humans: they are not adept at discovering and creating new things.”

Wu Ge knew this well. He had closely observed the werewolf race and found them to be quite intelligent, quickly mastering the knowledge taught to them, such as farming, breeding, and building. However, without guidance, they would not discover new knowledge or invent new tools.

In simple terms, they possessed knowledge but lacked thought.

Wu Ge said, “Someone needs to enlighten their minds, so they can fully evolve into a human-like race.”

The difference between humans and animals is that humans are thoughtful, pondering questions like who am I? Where do I come from? What is the meaning of my life?

Animals do not contemplate these questions.

Xiao Chao said, “I can create a synthetic werewolf body and use virtual control technology to allow you to control this body. This way, you can enter among the werewolf race and enlighten their minds.”

“Me?” Wu Ge pondered for a moment. It seemed he was the only option, being the last human on Earth.

Wu Ge nodded, “Understood. We indeed need the wisdom of this werewolf race.”

Wu Ge lay in the virtual control pod prepared by Xiao Chao. Once the divine connection was complete, he felt himself in another synthetic body.

Wu Ge thought to himself, it’s a good thing I have already reached the realm of breaking delusions.

This fully realistic virtual control technology carries significant risks. If a human lives as a member of the werewolf race for an extended period, their mind might become that of a werewolf, much like a wolf child.

Wu Ge, controlling the synthetic werewolf, walked out of the laboratory and began heading towards the werewolf’s living area, a vast grassland enclosed by a high steel wall.

Xiao Chao would gradually grant the werewolves freedom but wouldn’t suddenly allow them to live freely. If released into the wild all at once, they would quickly revert to their untamed nature.

The werewolf race now possesses many skills such as planting, hunting, building, forging, breeding, speaking, and writing. They wear clothes and hold tools, appearing no different from ordinary farmers.

However, their daily life revolves only around work, rest, eating, and reproduction, making them seem like merely a higher form of animal. They do not ponder their existence, require no names, nor think about improving their tools for more efficient work.

Wu Ge was unsure whether to admire their simplicity or lament their barbarism. Furthermore, the werewolf race lacks the concept of marriage; they sometimes fight over mates. Though capable of speech, language is often used for insults.

Among the werewolves, few understand writing, as it serves little purpose. Only some elders use it to record trivial matters or disasters as warnings.

Although the werewolves worship gods, they do not contemplate what gods look like, nor do they practice rituals or prayers. The concept of god was transmitted to them by Xiao Chao, primarily for better control.

Seeing this, Wu Ge felt the weight of his responsibility. Communicating through a device, Xiao Chao said, “There are two werewolves arguing ahead. This is a great opportunity. Convince them to become your loyal followers!”

Xiao Chao had already devised a plan for Wu Ge, guiding him like a game tutorial sprite. Its strategy was inspired by historical and mythical figures such as Confucius, Laozi, Mozi, Jesus, Buddha, and Prometheus, aiming to create a “Son of God” to lead and guide the werewolf race onto the right path.

Wu Ge had no objections to this plan. Following Xiao Chao’s advice, he approached and firmly disciplined the quarreling werewolves with a beating, sternly telling them, “Language is not meant for quarreling!”

The werewolves were bewildered but dared not protest against the overwhelmingly powerful Wu Ge, only whimpering softly.

After a long silence, Xiao Chao then advised, “Please mediate reasonably and win them over with virtue.”
