Only I Walk Alone

Chapter 28 - Technological Progress Requires the Wisdom of the Entire Race

Although the Fox Immortal specifically came to visit Wu Ge, she ended up staying at Wu Ge’s place, fortunately, Xiao Chao, the super AI, possesses an extremely powerful construction capability.

Currently, there are four intelligent beings in the base: Wu Ge, Xiao Luo, Sister Mei, and the Fox Immortal. Perhaps because everyone fears loneliness, they all live in a large villa, though the style of each person’s room varies.

Wu Ge’s room is relatively simple and not very big, Xiao Luo’s room is as luxurious as a princess’s bedroom, Sister Meii’s room has a Japanese style, and the Fox Immortal’s room naturally has an ancient architectural style.

There are fifteen synthetic maids in the villa, with each person having a personal maid. Unfortunately, an AI with a soul has not been born again, and the birth of Zhou Yuxin a long time ago might have been a fluke.

The arrival of the Fox Immortal did not bring much change to the base. On the contrary, the Fox Immortal suddenly became engrossed in science.

Wu Ge’s daily work involves cultivation and scientific research. In the southeast corner of the base is a research institute, equipped with a specialized material processing station, research labs, computer rooms, and escape routes.

The intelligent robots inside are all controlled by the scientific version of Xiao Chao.

Working in this research institute requires the assistance of Scientific Xiao Chao, which, unlike Military Xiao Chao or Maid Xiao Chao, possesses a patient and meticulous scientific temperament. It usually completes various physical experiments.

Since the four intelligent beings in the base have achieved immortality, there’s no need for the eternal life virus, but Xiao Chao has never stopped researching new technologies.

One day, Wu Ge and Xiao Luo went to the research institute. Although the Fox Immortal is very interested in science, her knowledge level is still at a primary school level, so she needs several years of scientific education to catch up with Wu Ge and the others.

The Fox Immortal said, “The stone of other mountains can polish jade. Science and cultivation ultimately lead to the same goal. I have already cultivated nine tails, and my path of cultivation has almost reached its end, so I want to use the power of science to see if I can make further progress.”

This is also why the Fox Immortaldecided to stay in the base; she needs this opportunity to learn human scientific technology.

Wu Ge imagined the future appearance of the Fox Immortal: a beautiful nine-tailed fox immortal wearing a white lab coat, talking about nuclear bombs and flying swords, electromagnetic furnaces for alchemy, and so on. The future of cultivation and technology is unpredictable.

“Should we still go ahead with the controlled nuclear fission engine for the manned spacecraft?” Xiao Luo started working.

In terms of scientific talent, Xiao Luo seems to be somewhat stronger than Wu Ge, while Wu Ge’s talent for cultivation is much stronger than Xiao Luo’s.

Wu Ge continued discussing this issue with Xiao Luo. Xiao Chao has already built a dock in Earth’s orbit, and Xiao Luo has taken a tour around Earth’s orbit and returned, so the next step is the production of the manned spacecraft.

The manned spacecraft mentioned here refers to one equipped with a life support system, enabling humans to travel in space.

Simply put, previous manned spaceflights were like building a small canoe to paddle around the sea surface and return, at most venturing to a small island close to the shore for a bit of fun.

But the current manned spacecraft are like building large ships, designed to sustain human life for extended periods and traverse oceans to reach other continents.

Here, the “oceans” refer to space, and “continents” refer to other planets.

The first target is, of course, the Moon, followed by Mars, then other planets within the solar system, and eventually breaking out of the solar system to reach other star systems. This will be a lengthy process, but Wu Ge is ready for it.

Wu Ge examines the blueprint of the spacecraft, designed by Wu Ge and Xiao Luo and refined by Xiao Chao. Construction hasn’t started yet because many scientific problems have not been solved.

Wu Ge said, “The Fox Immortal suggested combining the concept of magical artifact refinement with spacecraft construction. Unfortunately, although she understands artifact refinement, she does not know about spacecraft construction, and the situation is the opposite for Wu Ming. So, we can only wait for her to learn the relevant knowledge before she can join us.”

Xiao Luo said, “We’ve discussed the blueprint of the entire spacecraft almost enough over the past few years. I think we can start construction and conduct trial navigation experiments now.”

“This spacecraft…” Wu Ge looked at the blueprint and hesitated because it was an experimental work, so they focused on the spacecraft’s functionality and neglected its appearance, making it look quite odd.

After a moment, Wu Ge said, “We still don’t have enough manpower. Just the two of us will find it difficult to design a suitable manned spacecraft.”

Currently, Xiao Chao’s technology can barely create a manned spacecraft, but the problem lies in assembling these technologies. Wu Ge and Xiao Luo must decide which technologies are needed and which are not.

It’s like playing a spaceship assembly game, with Wu Ge and Xiao Luo responsible for the design and Xiao Chao for the construction. But, real-life spacecraft design is certainly more challenging than a game because they must manage every little detail of the spacecraft.

Previously, the design of manned spacecraft was the result of long-term efforts by countless experts in the aerospace field. But now, only Wu Ge and Xiao Luo are involved, which seems somewhat daunting.

The closest to human intelligence they have under their command is the werewolf race. Over decades, the werewolf race has proliferated from the initial two to over two hundred, continually receiving enlightenment from Xiao Chao.

Although they haven’t learned to speak yet, they have started to regard Wu Ge and Xiao Chao as their gods.

It’s odd that the werewolf race, without language or writing, possesses the concept of gods.

However, this doesn’t prevent Xiao Chao from ruling them with religious ideology. According to Xiao Chao’s calculations, it won’t be long before the werewolf race will be able to speak, farm, produce, and even use high-tech tools. But reaching the current level of human intelligence and conducting scientific research might still require thousands of years of accumulation.

Hundreds of years later, werewolves will become a biological army controlled by Xiao Chao. With both robot and biological armies, they will begin their journey across the “ocean.”

But for now, they can only develop and grow on Earth, whether in technology, industry, or military strength, all needing gradual accumulation.

Wu Ge occasionally inspects the werewolf’s living area. The current werewolves have shed much of their wildness and even undergone physical changes. Initially, the first and second generations of modified werewolves were almost two meters tall and covered in fur.

With generation after generation of genetic fine-tuning, werewolves have become more human-like. Their fur has thinned, and their facial features have started to resemble those of humans more closely.

Xiao Chao has shown Wu Ge conceptual images. In 100 years, the werewolf race will evolve into human-like beings with wolf ears and tails, possessing 80% of human intelligence.

Wu Ge looks forward to that day, as significant technological advancements still require the wisdom of an entire race!
