Chapter 35: Corrupted Fallen?
The fire was extremely hot, and within a few seconds, some abominations were burnt to ashes.
Just as Aleron was watching the scene play out with interest, the system flashed to life.
[Congratulations, you have slain a Tier 1 corrupted creature.]
[You have gained 100 EXP.]
'A corrupted fallen?'
Aleron was stunned. He didn't understand what the words meant.
He stared at the system, then silently asked within his heart.
'System, what does corrupted creature mean?'
The system was silent for a moment before flashing with a line of words.
[The origin energy required for the answer is exorbitant.]
Seeing this, Aleron just shook his head.
He had completely forgotten this side of the system.
How greedy the system was for his origin energy.
He no longer felt the need to ask the system for answers anymore.
He would slowly explore and find them out for himself.
Just then, he noticed a blinking corner of the system's golden screen.
He was slightly startled.
Clicking it in his heart, it opened.
[Mission: Slay 10,000 abominations to awaken an origin ability.]
[Progress: 4021 out of 10,000.]
Aleron was stunned.
Previously the progress was at 4000.
'Does this mean the goblins are counted as abominations?'
Aleron had the thought within his heart but didn't dare believe it.
He turned to glance at the area not too far away.
Noticing the grotesque form of the abominations, he quickly used his Infernal Eyes to form a fire spirit.
Then he combusted it.
The fire spirit exploded with a bang.
Aleron turned to the system panel, and to his surprise, it actually jumped up a bit.
"What?" His eyes widened.
It was true.
The goblins, which were corrupted creatures, were counted as abominations.
'Wait, corrupted…'
Aleron had a sudden guess in his heart.
Hearing the name abominations, one would easily be able to guess that they were abominable creatures.
Then what about corrupted creatures?
They could only be defined as creatures that were corrupted.
But corrupted by what?
Aleron didn't know what, but he had a guess in his heart, that the creatures were most likely corrupted by something terrifying.
And because of this terrifying thing, they had become classed under abominations as well.
Aleron sighed.
Things were starting to get complicated.
First the abominations, then the Tower of Heaven which came to stop the abominations.
Then now him discovering about the corrupted creatures from the Tower of Heaven.
It was as though this was all a grand complex scheme.
Aleron didn't want to think too much about it.
Although he didn't gain much experience from killing the goblins, just the fact that he could increase his mission progress made him feel the urge to slaughter them and climb more levels.
'Maybe… just maybe… I'll be able to awaken an origin ability here…'
Aleron's monstrous face underneath the mask held a faint smile.
He turned his attention to the horde of goblins and flapped his wings, appearing in their midst.
The abominations which previously numbered up to a hundred dwindled at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Aleron swiped his claws and more than ten corrupted goblins were destroyed.
His strength was overwhelming for the abominations which were just at Tier 1, and even their numbers didn't change that fact.
In the end, they were all just experience and points to fill his origin ability progress.
Bang. Bang. Bang.
In the blink of an eye, Aleron had slaughtered all the corrupted fallen.
The Tower of Heaven flashed and displayed a line of words.
[Congratulations on completing the first level of the Tower of Heaven.]
[Do you wish to continue?]
[Yes or No]
Seeing the line of words, Aleron thought for a moment, then clicked yes.
The system recorded the information, then flashed with a line of words.
[Congratulations on being the first to complete the first level of the Tower of Heaven within a minute.]
[Your rewards have been increased substantially.]
Aleron read the line of words and was pleasantly surprised.
A new line of words was described in front of him.
[You have received a special title…]
[Give Me a Minute]
[Please continue to complete all levels within a minute to get increasingly rich rewards.]
[Note. This is with the exception of group levels.]
"What?" Aleron was stunned.
What the hell was this and why did it seem like some sort of game?
'In that case, all I have to do is to keep completing the levels within a minute.'
Aleron loved the idea of receiving increasingly rich rewards.
Although it would not be easy to complete subsequent levels within a minute, Aleron felt he could do it.
He could not do it alone, but with himself and his dragons…
Anything was possible.
Just then, he felt a wave of pain course through his body.
A wave of blinding light descended onto his body, and he felt a strange sensation all over.
Aleron felt an unbearable pain.
This time it was far different from when he received the first rewards from the system.
Instead, it felt like an unbearable sensation that made him feel as though death was so close.
Aleron gritted his teeth, fiercely resisting the urge to scream.
But the pain was just too unbearable.
It was as though his whole being was constantly being changed.
Roarrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Roarrrrrrrrrrrr.
He roared out in pain repeatedly, his roars echoing in the empty trial room.
Fortunately, no one was there to see Aleron groaning.
Feeling the pain increasing, Aleron began thrashing around the whole trial ground.
The goblins not too far away were not spared as Aleron smashed them apart with his legs and claws.
Even his wings were not restricted and were stretched out drastically, bloating out the surroundings.
He smashed everything around him.
Time passed excruciatingly slowly and soon the pain finally stopped.
Aleron lay on the ground motionless.
Looking at him, he seemed no different from a dead grotesque creature in half-human half-dragon form.
His breathing was shallow and faint.
Aleron was taking the moment to recover himself.
Sensing a mysterious change within him, he glanced at the system panel that was blinking in front of him.
[Congratulations on receiving one piece of the Arcane Star Bloodline.]
[Your skills and everything else have been enhanced drastically.]
[Using the Arcane Star Bloodline, you can absorb essence from the stars to strengthen yourself, your attacks, and so much more.]
Aleron read through the line of words repeatedly.
It seemed everything was worth it.
The ragged breaths slowly faded away.
Aleron finally regained himself and slowly stood up.
He realized that his origin energy had recovered during this time.
He sighed once again and then turned to the shimmering portal which was condensing not too far away from him.
"That should be the portal to the second level."
Aleron thought, and after some slight hesitation, he walked towards the portal.
He could sense certain changes to his body, and he didn't know exactly what they meant.
He felt that his strength had been increased greatly.
He needed to vent it. He needed something to test out his strength.
Stepping through the shimmering portal, Aleron felt a mysterious energy wash over him and in the blink of an eye he was in another place.
…
Meanwhile, in the outside world, things were not as peaceful.
Normally, the hovering screen above the door would only display the name of the top ten Tower climbers.
This was the case for all the gates to the Tower of Heaven all over the Origin World.
Only when someone did something memorable would the screen change.
It had only happened a few times so far.
And now it had happened again.
Just as they were staring at the Gate to Heaven, it flashed with the words:
[Congratulations to the Father of Dragons on completing the first level of the Tower of Heaven within a minute and earning the title Give Me a Minute.]
Everyone stared at the line of words, stunned.
Someone had gained a title?
All over the world, the gates were guarded by the aristocrats, noblemen, and those of power.
They were shocked that someone by the name of that had accomplished such a feat.
How was it possible to complete the first level within a minute?
Although the levels were set according to the strength of everyone with the exception of higher levels, it was still pretty shocking that someone could complete the first level in such little time.
It was practically impossible.
A wave of curiosity spread throughout the Origin World.
The abominations had brought fear and panic to the world.
The Tower of Heaven brought some solace, but it was too far away.
Seeing the name 'The Father of Dragons…'
It was something that brought curiosity.
It kept people guessing and occupied their thoughts.
The name Father of Dragons was extremely domineering.
However, the people of the Origin World had never heard about dragons.
Dragons were something too far away for them.
Only the higher-ups recalled the whispers passed down from their ancestors.
The reason dragons had been forbidden.
