Only God

Chapter 588 Who Are My Parents?

Arsia was ecstatic.

She felt she would always remember tonight, when, with the assistance of that Priest, she had successfully killed two people.

Two living, breathing people.

At the thought, Arsia's hands began to tremble; she could have never imagined that one day she, a princess, would truly be able to kill someone.

After Eden had left, the Royal Guard hurriedly gathered around the princess's tent, looking at the bodies on the ground with confusion and surprise.

"Your, Your Highness..."

An officer asked with a trembling voice,

"What are these..."

Arsia turned around; she had been worried about not finding anyone to boast of her brave deeds to,

"Assassins, what else? I killed them all!"

She said, lifting the crossbow in her hand.

"Oh, oh..."

The officer was nearly speechless with shock. Then, he looked over at Eden, who was standing next to the princess,

"Are you a Night Watchman? What's the story with these two assassins?"

Eden took a deep breath and then briefly explained the events. With his and Arsia's cooperation, not only did the assassins fail in their attempt, but they also met their end here.

Having heard the story, the officer managed to regain a bit of his composure, swallowing hard. Who could have imagined, before this moment, a princess, seemingly incapable of harming a fly, could actually shoot and kill two assassins?

"The General is here!"

A voice came from behind the soldiers. Subsequently, the Royal Guard crowded around made way, and a nearly two-meter-tall General wearing full armor came forward—that was the Emperor's Paladin, "Bladebreaker" Bright.

Bright scanned the scene with a stern expression. The previously mentioned officer quickly jogged to his side and whispered the account of what had happened.

Once Bright was briefed, he looked towards the princess, who was holding the crossbow, with astonishment.

Noticing that gaze, Arsia felt even more proud.

"Bright, tell me, if I joined the army, couldn't I be a Decurion?"

Arsia boasted.

Bright smiled and nodded,

"Perhaps a Centurion would be more suitable for you.

However, should a situation like this arise again, I hope Your Highness will evacuate the scene at once."

At that moment, Bright turned to look at Eden,

"Judging by your clothes, you are a Night Watchman, are you not? What is your name?"

"Eden."

The Priest replied.

"No surname?"

After seeing Eden nod, Bright continued,

"In God's name, I will report your valor to the Emperor, and I believe when we return to the Imperial City, there will be a reward."

Eden didn't care about any reward upon returning to the Imperial City; he had been sentenced to exile and couldn't possibly return.

"Paladin, sir, more than a reward, I'm more concerned whether this kind of incident might happen again."

Eden spoke slowly,

"This doesn't seem like a mere bandit attack, but more like a premeditated and well-prepared assassination attempt."

Bright furrowed his brows slightly and then said,

"I've noticed.

We've captured a few prisoners and will interrogate them momentarily."

Eden gave his thanks and blessings,

"May God watch over you."

Bright turned to address the others, issuing several commands to bolster the guard and attend to the bonfire before turning and walking away. The rest of the Royal Guard soldiers also left, with only a small squad remaining to protect the princess's tent.

"Hey, come here."

Eden was about to leave, but Arsia called out to him.

"What's up?"

Following Arsia into the tent, Eden asked directly.

He didn't want to stay with this person for too long, he just wanted to go back to the Night Watchman as soon as possible.

He hoped Veldor hadn't run into any danger.

Eden thought to himself.

"Priest, you must have noticed, among the two assassins who came to kill me, one of them looked like the Zor Elf mentioned by mother,"

Arsia said in a hushed, rapid tone.

"So... you think it's related to Ausenco?"

Eden followed up on her line of thought.

He had come to the same conclusion.

The enemies who carried out the assassination first launched an attack, causing chaos in the camp, and then tried to take advantage of the commotion to kill the Princess. Fortunately, he was present, and together with Arsia's excellent Crossbow Skill, the assassins failed.

"Definitely related! Besides them, I can't think of anyone else with connections to the Zor Elves."

Arsia declared decisively.

"But Your Highness, aren't you supposed to marry into their nation? You are the future queen, why would they...?"

Eden expressed his confusion.

"Just because I am the future queen, they wouldn't assassinate me?

Political matters, who can make clear of them, perhaps it was another family from Ausenco that sent the assassins?"

Arsia spread her hands, and then, thinking of something, she said fiercely:

"One thing I must say, don't call me the future queen! I don't belong to that barbarian nation, and I won't stay there until I die, you hear me."

Eden didn't argue with her, he just wanted to leave as soon as possible,

"Heard it, heard it."

He thought that Arsia calling Ausenco a barbarian nation was a bit much, in his impression, although not as wealthy as Danschel, it wasn't an uncivilized place.

"Alright, I know you don't want to discuss Ausenco's conspiracy with me, I can see that. You can go back,"

Arsia waved her hand dismissively.

Eden walked out of the tent, relievedly let out a sigh, and slowly headed toward the Night Watchman's camp.

Back in the camp, Eden briefly explained the night's event to Veldor, who couldn't help but let out a series of exclamations and concernedly asked if Eden was hurt, the old man's concern warmed the Priest's heart.

Not long after, Eden lay down on his bed and closed his eyes, but he didn't fall asleep immediately.

Scenes of blood splattering flashed through his mind, and he seemed to hear Arsia's cheer again.

He couldn't forget the excitement Arsia showed after killing someone,

Eden thought that her soul at that moment was probably no different from a snarling Devil.

The vision slowly dissipated; he was very tired tonight, his thoughts gradually calmed down, and his breathing started to stabilize rhythmically as drowsiness intensified.

"Come to think of it,

who could my parents be?"

Eden murmured this last sentence before falling into a deep sleep.

...........................

First thing the next morning, Eden received an order from Bright, the Monarch's Guard Knight, who seemed to have obtained the interrogation results.

Without delay, Eden soon appeared inside the general's tent.

"They have a camp about fifty Danlis to the west,"

Bright reported:

"Night Watchman, I need your cooperation. Please organize a six-person team as soon as possible; I will send a cavalry troop to scout with you."

The assassins' camp.

Eden couldn't help feeling a bit nervous; after all, he was merely a Priest.
