Chapter 98: Chapter 90 New Arrival At Island
As the naval warship glided through the tranquil waves of the New World, Satoru leaned against the deck railing, scanning the intelligence report in his hands. This mission seemed peculiar, even for him.
The Overlord Pirates—once a feared name in the era of the Rocks Pirates—had long faded into obscurity. Yet now, their captain, Syris, a man with a staggering bounty of thirteen billion berries, had drawn the Navy's attention once again.
"Sixty-eight years old and retired, huh?" Satoru mused, flipping through the file. "And yet, Sengoku sends me after him. What's the point of all this?"
The vice admiral accompanying him cleared his throat. "General White Dragon, it's likely a strategic move by the Marshal. Capturing a figure from that era could bolster your reputation as the Navy's newest admiral."
Satoru smirked, his tone laced with sarcasm. "Ah, so I'm the poster boy now. Sengoku sure knows how to milk the headlines."
Still, something about the situation intrigued him. A pirate of Syris' stature—known for his arrogance and strength—retiring peacefully on a quiet island? It didn't add up.
---
Five days later, the warship arrived at the designated island. From the moment Satoru stepped onto the shore, he could sense it—a powerful presence that stood out like a beacon amidst the peaceful atmosphere of the village.
The island was idyllic, with children playing and villagers tending to their daily tasks. Unlike most New World settlements, where paranoia ruled, these people greeted him with warm smiles and curious glances.
"Hey there, stranger," a young man called out, approaching Satoru. "What brings you to our little island?"
"I'm looking for someone named Syris," Satoru replied, his voice calm but firm.
The young man's expression turned to one of confusion. "Syris? Never heard of anyone by that name. You sure you've got the right place?"
Another villager chimed in, "You're not talking about Uncle Riel, are you? He's the only elder here who might fit the bill."
Satoru raised an eyebrow. Uncle Riel? So Syris had taken on an alias and seamlessly blended into this peaceful community.
"Yeah, that's probably him," Satoru said. "Where can I find him?"
The young man pointed toward the far edge of the village. "His house is the last one on the hill. But just a heads-up—Uncle Riel's napping right now. He's a bit cranky if you wake him up."
Satoru's lips curved into a faint smile. "Thanks for the warning."
---
The small house at the edge of the village was unremarkable, nestled among wildflowers and a simple garden. Yet, Satoru could feel the immense presence radiating from within, a sleeping giant whose strength hadn't diminished with time.
He stood before the door for a moment, assessing the situation. The villagers' trust in Syris—or Uncle Riel, as they called him—was evident. They had no idea of his true identity, nor the storms he had weathered in his prime.
"This should be interesting," Satoru murmured, stepping forward.
He knocked on the door, the sound echoing softly in the serene air.
Inside, Syris stirred, his formidable aura flaring momentarily before settling again. The time for peaceful retirement was over. The past had come knocking, and Satoru was ready to meet the legend who had chosen to hide away from the world.
