Chapter 84: Chapter 84: An Emergency Situation
Sea Circle Calendar Year 1506.
Karl's house arrest had finally ended.
However, when he tried to leave Navy Headquarters to visit little Ace and little Luffy in the East Blue, he was directly stopped by Kong, the Fleet Admiral.
At the time of Luffy's birth, Karl could only look at the photos Garp brought back due to his confinement. He felt a deep sense of loss over not being able to see Luffy in person, which even left him despondent for a few days.
But Kong had offered him a significant mission, one that, once completed, would grant him an immediate promotion to Rear Admiral—skipping the need to accumulate merit over time.
This was the only reason Karl reluctantly agreed to stay at Navy Headquarters for a few more days.
One night, as Karl was sleeping soundly, the loud blaring of alarms suddenly erupted across Navy Headquarters.
The clamorous noise jolted him awake.
When he stepped out of his room, he saw the naval forces mobilizing swiftly.
At the same time, his Den Den Mushi rang.
"Karl! Get up now—there's an emergency mission for you to handle!"
"Old man Sengoku, what's going on? Don't tell me someone is attacking Navy Headquarters!"
Karl rubbed the corner of his eyes, speaking as he dressed.
"It's not Navy Headquarters under attack—it's Mary Geoise!
The prison holding the Celestial Dragons' slaves has been breached by an unknown assailant.
Mary Geoise is in chaos right now! Follow Borsalino and get there immediately to buy us some time.
Naval reinforcements will arrive within thirty minutes!"
"The slaves at Mary Geoise were freed? And you're only telling me this now?! What fantastic news!
Alright, leave this to me—I'll handle it!"
"Wait! Karl! I want you to capture the slaves, not—"
Click!
Before Sengoku could finish, Karl had already hung up the Den Den Mushi.
Even when it rang again, he had no intention of answering.
"By my calculations, this should be around the time Fisher Tiger climbed up to Mary Geoise and launched his surprise attack on the Celestial Dragons.
Judging by the Navy and Celestial Dragons' response time, Tiger has likely freed nearly everyone by now.
At this point, I'm just cleaning up the aftermath. But if it's about stalling for time..."
Karl smirked. "Nobody's better at stalling than me!"
With a faint smile, he donned his Navy Commodore uniform and took off directly into the sky.
His speed was astonishing!
At full flight, it wouldn't even take him three minutes to reach Mary Geoise.
But just a minute after Karl took off, Sengoku and Borsalino arrived at his quarters.
The room, however, was already empty.
Only Karl's Den Den Mushi, deliberately left behind, remained.
Seeing this, Sengoku's face twisted in rage, while Borsalino tilted his head and looked skyward, pretending nothing had happened.
"My, my. The weather today is rather gloomy—so dreary and unpleasant," Borsalino remarked in his trademark laid-back tone, further irritating Sengoku.
If Sengoku didn't know this was just Borsalino's usual demeanor, he might have thought the latter was mocking him.
Taking a deep breath to calm himself, Sengoku barked, "Borsalino! I'm ordering you to advance at full speed and bring him back before he causes a disaster!"
"You're making things difficult, Sengoku. Karl's strength now rivals yours. How could I possibly take him down?"
"Stop making excuses! Get moving!"
"Such a hassle, really..."
Reluctantly, Borsalino transformed into a beam of yellow light and headed toward Mary Geoise.
Although he could easily catch up with Karl, he deliberately slowed down, avoiding a confrontation.
After all, the situation was already beyond repair, and Borsalino wasn't eager to engage in slave recapture.
At this point, glimpses of his future persona—where he would shirk responsibilities openly—were beginning to show, though he wasn't as blatant about it yet.
Meanwhile, Karl had already arrived above Mary Geoise.
The escaped slaves froze upon seeing Karl descend, terror evident in their eyes.
Even Fisher Tiger and his group halted, watching Karl cautiously.
Because Karl had been out of the public eye for nearly five years, few still remembered him—even though he had been the executioner of Gol D. Roger.
Fisher Tiger was one of the few who recognized him.
Among the slaves hiding in the shadows, trembling, the Hancock sisters were also among those who knew him.
They looked up at Karl, wondering how a Navy officer could have arrived at Mary Geoise so quickly.
"Don't be afraid! There's only one Navy man here—let's take him down!" Tiger shouted.
"Charge!!!"
"Everyone, hurry and escape! The Celestial Dragons' guards will be here any moment!"
The slaves scrambled to flee.
Some, however, leaped into the air, launching direct attacks on Karl.
Although Karl had no intention of killing unnecessarily, he didn't plan to spare those who actively attacked him.
People like that, if left unchecked, would likely become scourges on the seas in the future.
He decided it was better to eliminate them here and now.
"Die, Marine scum!"
Dozens of slaves soared into the air, aiming to strike down Karl.
Without exception, Karl dispatched them all with a single slash.
A seemingly simple sword wave radiated outward, sending their lifeless bodies flying dozens of meters before they fell to the ground in two pieces.
"Listen up!" Karl roared. "As long as I, Karl, am here, none of you are getting away!"
Drawing Sandai Kitetsu, he unleashed a massive slash toward the ground.
The immense blade of energy tore through the air, splitting the terrain and blocking the CP agents' pursuit path.
"Daring to escape and attack the Navy and Celestial Dragons—that's a capital offense!
I, Karl, will not let you go unpunished!"
Sheathing his sword, Karl extended both arms, and the very ground beneath him began to rise into the air.
The slaves were stunned, shaking in terror. Some even fell to their knees, begging for mercy.
Ignoring their cries, Karl manipulated his powers, using the cover of night to lift them toward the sky.
Meanwhile, Karl landed amidst Fisher Tiger and his group, standing before them alone.
Detected Fisher Tiger. Check-in available.
