Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Poor Acting
With a furious roar from Gasparde, several sharp whistles suddenly rang out around them.
Two sword auras slashed through the surrounding leaves and branches, heading straight for Karl!
"Not bad for swordsmanship; you've reached the threshold of a swordmaster. But that's about it."
Karl shook his head, drawing out the Sandwich Kitetsu and casually waving it forward!
A massive force, accompanied by the sound of howling winds, destroyed the two sword auras in mid-air!
Karl didn't even unleash a slash. His sword, Kitetsu, never even touched their sword auras.
He simply swung the sword, and the resulting gusts of wind dispersed the sword auras!
"Truly worthy of a navy officer from the Marine Headquarters. Your strength is far superior to those pirates!"
"Hehehe, big brother, once we pull this off, I'm going back to marry a wife!"
"Don't worry, this time the employer's a fool with plenty of money! It'll definitely be enough for you to marry a wife!"
"Hehehe, big brother, let's kill this navy guy and head back to marry a wife early!"
The two swordsmen appeared from behind Gasparde.
They looked identical, but their personalities were different.
The one called "big brother" had a stern, serious face, giving off the impression of a very proper character.
The other one, always grinning and repeatedly talking about marrying a wife, didn't look like a good person at all.
"Hmph! They're both mercenaries from the Grand Line. This time, you're as good as dead!"
"Hahahahaha!"
Gaspardei laughed wildly before igniting a signal flare, notifying Admiral Crete to initiate the encirclement!
Kuro, who had already escaped, saw the flare and immediately contacted Admiral Crete, urging him to come right away.
But what Admiral Crete didn't know was that Kuro was currently hiding inside the warship, discussing how to surround the Crete pirate crew with the Navy officers!
Belmer and Smoker both knew that Kuro was planted as an undercover agent by Karl.
So, they didn't arrest him, instead cooperating with Kuro to execute their plans!
"You all follow me and surround the Crete Pirate Crew from the outside."
"Lord Karl has said that Gasparde and those two mercenaries are not a threat. We don't need to worry about them."
"As soon as we get the signal from Lord Karl, we'll move out immediately!"
Kuro gave the orders in place of Karl. Though Belmer felt a bit displeased, she understood that what was most important right now was the task at hand.
Moreover, anyone who was sent as an undercover agent wasn't someone simple, so Belmer and Smoker didn't make things difficult for Kuro.
At the same time, the twin swordsmen were attacking Karl in tandem!
Their sword techniques were quite sharp, especially when they combined their twin swords. Every strike was vicious, aiming directly at vital points!
Every blow they made targeted either a deadly organ or the weakest parts of the body.
This made Karl feel a bit disgusted, wanting to kill them both right then and there.
But the timing wasn't right. He had to wait for Admiral Crete to arrive before he could end the charade.
Otherwise, what if that coward Crete ran away?
He had been hiding from Karl for months. Now that Karl had finally lured him out, he absolutely couldn't let him escape!
So, Karl had to keep up the act, using outstanding acting skills.
These twin brothers' strength wasn't bad for the East Blue. Even in the first half of the Grand Line, they could be considered formidable.
But in the latter half of the Grand Line—the New World, which would soon be dominated by the Four Emperors—they were utterly insignificant.
So, pretending to be evenly matched with them was a bit of a challenge for Karl.
It was simply because they were too weak...
"Gasparde, hurry up and help! This brat's a tough nut to crack, he's too hard to deal with!"
"I can't do it. My strength is too weak, but Admiral Crete will be here soon. Hold on, once he arrives, this kid is as good as dead!"
Gasparadi, hearing their words, cowardly didn't step in to help but instead continued to watch from the sidelines, occasionally taking potshots.
Karl, meanwhile, kept up the act, continuing to appear "evenly matched" or even "slightly disadvantaged."
In order to make them think they had a chance of victory, Karl even intentionally allowed himself to be pushed back.
"Damn! I really underestimated you!"
Karl's "poor" acting didn't alert the twin brothers.
When they heard Karl "gritting his teeth," they were overjoyed.
"Big brother! Let's use our secret move! He can't hold on much longer!"
"Alright!"
The brothers exchanged a look, then joined hands, hugging each other tightly.
Their swords pressed firmly together!
"Twin Sword Fusion—"
With their roars, the sharp sword auras shot out!
Karl was a little surprised. He didn't expect that when the two worked together, they could release such powerful sword auras!
But their movements were just so eye-watering.
Two grown men hugging each other, holding hands, and their swords pressed together, making Karl physically uncomfortable.
If it had been a man and a woman, or two women, it wouldn't have been nearly as awkward.
While Karl was quietly lamenting, the sword auras were already closing in on him.
At the same time, Karl saw Admiral Crete and his subordinates in the distance!
Seeing that everyone had arrived, Karl's mouth curled into a smile.
"You've finally arrived!"
"I don't have to act anymore!"
Before the words were out of his mouth, Karl blocked the sword auras with one hand and shifted them upward toward the sky. Then, with a casual swing of his sword, he released a sword aura of his own.
The two powerful sword auras collided mid-air, creating a violent explosion that even blew a hole in the clouds above!
This was the signal Karl had promised earlier.
Out at sea, Kuro and the others saw the hole in the clouds and immediately led Belmer and the assault team to attack Admiral Crete's fleet!
Smoker and the others led another group to the island to surround Admiral Crete!
At the same time, Admiral Crete and his over a hundred subordinates had already surrounded Karl.
The twin swordsmen and Gasparde stood beside Admiral Crete.
Especially Gasparde. Seeing Karl completely surrounded, he couldn't help but want to mock him.
"Hehehe, Karl, I told you not to wade into this mess."
"Look at you now. You didn't listen to me, and now you're in this situation. Don't you regret it?"
"If you regret it, it's not too late. Pledge allegiance to us and personally slaughter all the citizens of Loguetown."
"Then we'll reluctantly forgive you. We might even recognize you as our fourth brother. What do you think? We're being so generous, aren't we?"
"Hahahahaha!"
Gasparde, feeling smug, completely revealed his true nature.
The twin swordsmen and Admiral Crete were all there, which made him believe Karl was definitely going to die!
Admiral Crete also believed Karl had no chance of escaping!
To him, there wasn't a single Navy officer around, just Karl alone.
He was definitely dead!
"Crete, do you really think you've already won?"
Karl suddenly asked this question, making Admiral Crete's heart skip a beat.
He suddenly felt that danger was approaching.
But after scanning the surroundings and confirming that everyone was his own men, he breathed a sigh of relief.
"Hmph! Stop with your tricks. You've blocked my path to wealth, and I certainly won't let you go!"
"Everyone, attack! Whoever kills him will be rewarded with a million Berries!"
