Chapter 29: Chapter 29: The Trap
East Blue.
A certain unnamed island.
This island lies on the edge of East Blue, a remote place with no signs of human activity around it.
But today, things were different.
Seven or eight small pirate ships suddenly appeared on this desolate island.
"Everyone, listen up! According to the information, the treasure is on this island. Stay sharp and don't miss a single spot!"
"Aye, sir!"
After the leader gave his orders, nearly a hundred people armed with tools began frantically searching for treasure on the island.
While they were doing so, the man who had given the orders returned to the largest of the ships.
"Captain Buggy, the orders have been given. What should we do next?"
Clearly, the person who had just issued the commands was a marine under Karl's command.
However, his current appearance had little to do with the typical marine image—if someone didn't know better, they might think he was just another burly pirate.
After all, it was Buggy who led them out to sea.
Even though Buggy had officially joined the Marines, his pirate habits and style of behavior hadn't changed.
The others were also imitating Buggy's way of life, naturally drifting towards a pirate-like lifestyle.
But they hadn't forgotten their mission—they still remembered that they were Marines!
"Hehehehe... While I've been part of many battles, this is the first war I've led myself. It's quite interesting."
"You issue the orders to spread out. I'll personally lure Admiral Crete out!"
"As soon as he appears, you all spring into action and capture him!"
"Aye, sir!"
Buggy gave a simple ambush command and left his Marines to carry out the plan.
After all, he wasn't a strategist. He was just letting things unfold naturally.
Buggy took a moment to calm his excitement and called Karl using his Den Den Mushi.
"Lord Karl, I've arrived at the designated location, and I've given the orders for them to lie in wait. What should I do next?"
"Well done. Now, continue with the plan and search for Admiral Crete's treasure. The information he gave you is correct—there is indeed treasure hidden on this island!"
"According to Kuro's intel, this treasure is likely Crete's entire fortune. If you find it, I'll give you thirty percent!"
"Got it! I'm on it!"
Hearing Karl's words, Buggy became excited and immediately hung up to start his treasure hunt.
Over the past few days, he had found plenty of treasure, but most of it wasn't worth much—some of it was even less valuable than Karl's sailing subsidies.
But Crete's treasure was something he could get excited about.
However, Crete wasn't stupid. When he noticed Buggy focusing on the treasure he'd hidden, he began relocating it.
Even so, Buggy's forces would easily overwhelm Crete's subordinates, and any treasures that hadn't been moved in time would fall into Buggy's hands.
This was why Crete had reached his breaking point.
Buggy's natural talent had rallied a large group of people, making it a real headache for Crete.
"Everyone! Keep searching! My intel is absolutely reliable, there is definitely treasure here!"
"Yes, sir!!!"
The deafening sounds echoed over the island, even alarming the local wildlife.
At first, the beasts tried to resist the intrusion into their territory. However, as the number of humans increased, the animals quickly backed down.
The beasts in the One Piece world are semi-intelligent, roughly equivalent to a human child of one or two years old.
Naturally, they could run when they sensed danger, as even animals fear death.
"Boss! We've found a cave! Should we check it out?"
The report came from one of the junior leaders among the outer members.
He led a group of ten or so people and had discovered a suspicious cave.
However, he didn't dare enter without permission. After all, there had been incidents in the past where treasure hunters triggered traps and met a grim fate.
After several such incidents, the group had become more cautious.
Since Buggy was a Devil Fruit user, ordinary traps wouldn't have any effect on him.
"I understand. Tell everyone to follow me!"
Although he wasn't sure whether there was treasure inside the cave, it was better to be safe than sorry.
Soon, Buggy arrived at the suspicious cave.
He stepped forward, grabbed whatever he could, and casually threw out several throwing knives and needles to test the walls for any traps.
To his relief, there were no traps at all.
Buggy then flew into the air, his feet barely touching the ground as he walked slowly deeper into the cave.
But then, suddenly, his body was sliced in two.
Buggy let out a cry, and he soon realized that the thing that had sliced him was a thin, sharp fishing line made from special material!
The fishing line was incredibly sharp and could easily injure someone if they weren't careful.
But Buggy wasn't in a rush. He continued testing the surroundings for more traps.
A moment later, his body reassembled at the entrance of the cave.
"This trap is just a fishing line. Everyone form a shield wall and charge inside! But watch your feet. If anyone gets their ankle cut off, you're on your own!"
"Charge!!!"
At Buggy's command, the pirates pulled out shields and began charging forward.
Buggy leisurely followed behind, not in a hurry.
The fishing lines were cut one by one by the thick shields as they moved forward.
All of them eventually reached the cave's inner depths.
However, when they got there, they discovered that the cave was a dead end—there was nothing at all!
"What's going on? We've set up all these fishing line traps, but there's no treasure?"
Someone voiced their confusion, and even Buggy began to feel something was off.
He had only checked for traps earlier and hadn't ventured deeper into the cave.
After all, with so many fishing line traps guarding the entrance, anyone would have instinctively thought there was treasure hidden inside!
But now, at the deepest point of the cave, there was nothing!
Suddenly, he realized he had walked into a trap!
"Everyone, retreat quickly! We need to get out of here, now!"
The others didn't understand why Buggy was in such a rush, but they followed his orders and started rushing back out.
But just then, with a rumble, a massive rock fell at the cave's entrance, trapping them inside!
And worst of all...
A pungent smell began to seep through the cracks, filling the cave!
"Damn it, it's oil! Everyone, retreat! Watch out for fire!"
Buggy shouted as he began backing away from the cave's depths. But as he spoke, flames erupted, instantly igniting the dozens of people in front of him!
At the same time, Buggy's Den Den Mushi rang!
