Chapter 12: Chapter 12: New Mission
"Admiral, here's what happened. That Navy brat refused to cooperate and even almost killed me…"
On a small boat, Kreig nervously reported the situation via the Den Den Mushi.
At this point, he was just a rookie pirate with no qualifications to directly interact with Admiral Crete.
The only reason he was passing along this message was that Admiral Crete couldn't make an appearance himself.
"I understand. You may leave now!"
Admiral Crete hung up the Den Den Mushi without giving Kreig a chance to explain.
Kreig's face turned ashen.
He knew full well that failing this mission meant he would face a punishment worse than hell itself.
Meanwhile, Karl, stepping lightly with his moonwalk technique, observed the entire scene from above.
He had let Kreig go, thinking the man would go to Admiral Crete.
However, it turned out that Kreig wasn't even in a position to directly contact Admiral Crete. He could only reach him through the Den Den Mushi.
This disappointed Carl somewhat.
But Karl had grown accustomed to it. Over the past month, he had spent nearly every day seeking out Admiral Crete.
However, aside from some stray cats and dogs, Karl had found no trace of the admiral.
It was obvious that this cowardly man was still hiding in the shadows, avoiding direct confrontation with the Navy!
What Karl didn't know was that Admiral Crete, at that very moment, was in the East Blue, gathering his subordinates, preparing to make his return!
"Hmph! A month has passed. Those bastards at the Navy Headquarters should have stopped paying attention to the East Blue by now.
This is the perfect time for me, Admiral Crete, to set sail again! As for that brat in Loguetown, who will take care of him for me?
If the kid won't listen, we'll replace him with a more obedient one as the base leader!"
Admiral Crete clearly didn't take Karl seriously.
In his mind, the base leader in Loguetown was weak, just like the previous one.
Admiral Crete didn't view Karl as anything more than a cocky rookie who had just set out on his journey.
"Admiral, this doesn't require us to get involved. Do you remember King Bear?"
"King Bear? That captain of the Poker Pirates?"
"Yes, that guy!"
A subordinate of Admiral Crete's grinned slightly, continuing, "This guy has big ambitions. While we were avoiding the Navy, he's already started to steal our business.
And he has no fear of the Navy at all. If we guide him just a bit, we can have him take care of the problem for us.
This way, we avoid directly offending the Navy. If possible, we might even support them, forming a partnership with them!"
Hearing this, Admiral Crete was momentarily stunned before bursting into laughter!
"Hahahaha! Truly worthy of being my advisor. You handle this. Is that okay?"
"Thank you, Admiral, for entrusting me with this mission. I'll take care of it!"
The man adjusted his glasses, flashing a sinister smile before leaving the room.
Moments later, Admiral Crete stopped laughing, and his expression grew more serious.
"A Navy brat, huh... Heh, let's see how you deal with this troublesome guy!"
…
At the same time.
Karl had returned to Loguetown.
However, he wasn't alone. He was accompanied by a Navy warship flying the Dog Head flag.
On his return trip, Karl had happened to bump into Garp, and the two had returned together.
"Old man Garp, what brings you here? Is there another mission?"
"Hahahaha, stop with the missions! I'm on vacation right now!"
Garp laughed heartily while picking his nose, completely disregarding his image.
Karl couldn't help but feel a bit helpless at the sight, following Garp closely.
A while later, Garp arrived at the Navy training grounds.
Upon seeing the trainees, he nodded in satisfaction.
But soon, his gaze shifted to Smoker.
"So this is the smoke brat? You're not letting him develop his Devil Fruit powers but having him practice the Six Powers? What's the meaning of that?
The Six Powers are classified techniques! Did you report this to me and Sengoku?"
Garp shot Karl a glare but didn't seem angry.
Karl shrugged nonchalantly and offered an evasive explanation. "Relax, old man Garp. I'm doing this for the good of Loguetown.
Besides, the Six Powers are no longer some secret technique. Hiding it away is pointless. It's better to spread it around."
"Hahahaha, you're sure you're not just taking advantage of me, huh?"
"Am I not?"
The two exchanged a look and chuckled.
The others around them only realized Karl had returned upon hearing the laughter.
When they saw Garp, they immediately stopped their training and stood up to salute.
"No need to salute. Keep training. Don't stop."
"Yes, sir!"
At Garp's command, the Navy personnel resumed their training.
After chatting with Karl for a while, Garp left, saying he had important matters to attend to.
But just as Garp left, less than ten minutes passed before the Den Den Mushi rang.
"Hello, who's this?"
"Karl, did Garp go to your place?"
"It's Sengoku, isn't it? Yes, Garp came here. Do you need him for something?"
"Karl, as a Navy Admiral, I'm ordering you to keep Garp in Loguetown! Do not let him leave, not even a step!"
Upon hearing Sengoku's angry voice, Karl was confused. After a brief pause, he finally responded.
"Well... Garp left about ten minutes ago. Looks like you're a bit late with your call..."
This time, Sengoku fell silent.
Thankfully, it wasn't for long. He soon gave Karl a new order.
"Karl, I'm now ordering you to assist the Navy Headquarters forces entering the East Blue. Find a woman named Rouge!
She's dangerous, and she must be captured as soon as possible. The sooner, the better!"
"I understand, Admiral Sengoku. Is there anything else?"
Karl's tone turned cold. He hadn't expected that the mission Sengoku would give him would be to capture Portgas D. Rouge!
From the start, he never wanted to get involved in this mess.
And now, seeing Garp, he could guess who Garp had come for.
However, Sengoku didn't seem to notice Karl's cold tone.
He calmly continued to give Karl the mission details, outlining the operation's guidelines.
Karl wasn't the primary participant. His job was to provide information and assist others in capturing Rouge, with no need for him to make any arrests himself.
If Karl could keep an eye on Garp, that would be ideal.
