Chapter 284: Rescuing Robin
Anne knew little about Robin before arriving. She only knew that Robin was the demon child with overlapping voices, possessing the ability to make things disappear.
So, after appearing, she first observed Robin's attitude. Even though Robin was just a child, Anne didn't underestimate her.
With Robin's response, Anne felt relieved and could give her all.
Her fusion ability couldn't carry someone else. She could only fuse with inorganic matter, not organic matter. To take Robin with her, they would need to force their way out, minimizing any interference from Robin.
In an instant, Anne emerged from the ground.
Dressed in black and wearing a mask, Anne's appearance triggered alarms. She pushed forward with her hand, and Haki's massive force twisted the steel before her.
The large, empty prison made entirely of special steel was as fragile as paper before Anne. Though Observation Haki was her specialty, her Armament Haki was not weak!
"Go!"
The moment she appeared, she broke through the barrier and dashed towards the opening with Robin, knowing that enemies would soon be on their tail.
Sure enough, as soon as the alarm was triggered, numerous guards rushed towards them. Anne snorted, releasing a powerful wave of Conqueror's Haki, causing the rushing guards to collapse unconscious.
However, these guards were never the real threat. The real challenge was those unaffected by her Conqueror's Haki.
As expected, some guards remained standing, emanating a powerful, invisible force. Dozens of them activated their psychokinesis, creating an air barrier blocking Anne's path.
Anne snorted, and a steel sword emerged from her right hand. She had prepared this weapon for this mission, merging it into her body, and now she extended it.
"Divine Avoidance!"
Anne shouted, using one of Roger's techniques. She didn't worry about revealing her identity; Roger's technique might help conceal it better.
With Conqueror's and Armament Haki entwined on the blade, the dark blade cut through the air. The air wall created by the psychokinesis of dozens of people shattered instantly, and the remaining force sent them flying, vomiting blood, and collapsing.
Anne finally exited the large prison.
Without stopping, she continued to dash forward. The guards were never the primary concern; even a second delay was wasted.
Pandora Island was too close to the Black Order. If Thor from Pandora Island engaged her, Makima could arrive at any moment, and Anne had no chance against them both.
But Thor was also incredibly fast, moving at the speed of lightning!
With a flash of light and a booming sound, Thor's voice shouted, "Don't think you can escape!"
Thor's speed was immense, but Anne wasn't slow either. She specialized in agility and speed!
Though they hadn't compared speed in Wano, today would settle it.
Anne felt a surge of adrenaline, carrying Robin while sprinting madly. Thor, transformed into lightning, chased her, and numerous robots, Vega punk's creations, appeared ahead.
As Anne prepared to break through the mechanical army, she was shocked to see the robots suddenly disappear!
She glanced at Robin, whose eyes were closed, enduring the wind pressure from their high-speed movement.
At such speeds, most people couldn't endure it. The speed, enough to break the sound barrier, would set a person aflame. Though Robin wasn't ordinary, the speed still burdened her greatly.
Yet, she remained silent, enduring it.
The robots' disappearance was undoubtedly due to her. Robin had been able to control her power for about six months, thanks to guidance from the Twilight Hermit Society. She learned to control her vanishing power but kept it hidden to avoid drawing attention.
Robin planned to use her power to escape when she grew stronger, but Anne's unexpected appearance and strength gave her hope of escaping Pandora Island, so she helped.
However, her power wasn't fully controllable. When making the robots vanish, she unintentionally made one of Anne's shoes disappear.
Anne felt her right foot go cold but continued forward. Behind her, a massive thunder dragon formed.
As Thor advanced, he gathered lightning, creating a colossal thunder dragon, dozens or even hundreds of meters long, ready to devour Anne.
Robin's vanishing power couldn't handle such a massive attack. Her strength still limited her power.
But Anne wasn't going to be caught by Thor. Even without Kagekiri, she was strong enough!
Activating the Four Soul Jade fragments within her, Anne infused the power into her legs, boosting her speed and propelling her forward another 200 meters, dodging the thunder dragon's attack.
Boom!
The thunder dragon exploded behind her like a missile, the heat and energy washing over her. Though the blast's core was avoided, the shockwave still affected her, propelling her further.
Anne's speed increased while Thor, having launched the dragon, slowed. This created a gap he couldn't close.
Suddenly, Anne felt a chilling presence ahead, a powerful force descending from the sky.
It was psychokinesis, but mixed with Armament and Conqueror's Haki, its power amplified by a specific technique!
This was the Buddha Palm!
In this area, only Sengoku could use this technique.
Anne's heart sank, but didn't panic. It wasn't the most dangerous as long as Makima didn't show up.
"Divine Slash!"
Facing Sengoku's Buddha Palm, Anne swung her blade, a sharp force targeting the palm's structure.
"Such a brilliant technique, but even the best have weaknesses," Anne sneered.
In her Observation of Haki, the Buddha Palm, she comprised three forces: Armament Haki, Conqueror's Haki, and psychokinesis. These combined forces were powerful, but Anne saw the weak points.
The more complex the technique, the more fragile its structure. By targeting the weak balance, she quickly shattered the decisive attack.
Her single-handed slash disrupted the balance, causing the giant palm to vanish.
This was the level Anne had reached, the same as Roger's ability to see and exploit weaknesses. This level of mastery gave her the confidence to rescue Robin without full power.
"No need to see me off, members of the Black Order," Anne mocked loudly, altering her voice.
Next, she leaped into the air with Robin. Even while using Moonwalk, her speed didn't drop, showing her mastery of the technique.
Having neutralized Sengoku's attack, Anne thought she was free. But then, she felt a chilling presence, as if something was watching her.
It was Makima. She had noticed.
Anne knew Makima couldn't arrive quickly, which was a relief.
Makima's techniques were well-known to Anne. She had fought her several times and understood her abilities.
Makima could monitor from afar and teleport instantly, but she attacked with compressed air, a direct but revealing method. This meant Makima wasn't coming in person.
Anne felt a weight lifted. Makima likely stayed behind to guard Lilith's body, which is crucial to her world-shaking plan. Robin was less important in comparison.
With both Thor and Sengoku here, if Makima left, the Black Order's defense would weaken, making it an easy target if Anne's real goal was Lilith's body.
Makima chose to stay, and that was the best outcome for Anne.
Even with Thor and Sengoku chasing, Anne was confident without Makima.
A hole appeared in Anne's chest, blood spilling out, but she laughed, releasing her Conqueror's Haki. Thunderclouds gathered above Pandora Island, black lightning crackling, creating an apocalyptic scene.
Thor and Sengoku flanked her, but Anne, full of power, continued forward. With one hand holding Robin and the other wielding a steel sword, she faced Sengoku.
Boom!
Sengoku wondered how his Buddha Palm was broken, but there was no time to think. He charged, Haki and psychokinesis enveloping him.
Anne accelerated with the Four Soul Jade fragments as they neared, then threw her sword. Initially looking to fight Sengoku head-on, no one expected her to abandon the sword.
Sengoku's punch sent the sword flying, causing a shockwave. Anne used this moment to slip behind him, then flashed away with Robin.
"No need to chase, I've felt your hospitality!" Anne laughed, speeding up. In a second, she outpaced Sengoku. Though Thor followed, Anne dived into the sea with Robin, and Thor, a Devil Fruit user, couldn't follow.
Sengoku, though fruitless now, wasn't as fast as Thor. He couldn't catch Anne.
Diving into the sea, Anne headed to a pre-prepared location.
She had used her fusion ability on a nearby island to hollow out a mountain. She soon arrived there with Robin.
"I promised not to restrict your freedom," Anne said, panting slightly. "There's a week's worth of food and water here. After a week, I'll take you to a safe place. Or, you can leave now."
With that, she prepared to leave. She needed to return to her room before anyone noticed her absence, hoping to keep her identity secret.
As for Robin, as long as Makima didn't control her, Anne didn't mind her subsequent whereabouts.
