One Piece: My Name is Jack, I'm Very Resistant to Beating

Chapter 53: Chapter 53: The Numbered and the Gorilla-Man

The distance between Ailen Island and Onigashima wasn't too far. For a typical pirate ship at full speed, the journey wouldn't take more than a month. So, when King appeared before Jack, the latter was still lying on the beach, snoozing under the sun in nothing but swim trunks.

"Huh?"

Feeling the sunlight suddenly blocked, Jack pulled off his sunglasses, rubbed his eyes, and saw King unsheathing his sword.

"Jack!" King's voice was sharp, his anger palpable. "Didn't I tell you to properly guard the area? What are you doing right now?"

"Whoa!"

Jack shot up instantly, all traces of sleep vanishing, and grabbed King's hands before he could fully unsheath his blade.

"Hm?"

King paused for a moment, glancing down at their similarly-sized hands. A flicker of nostalgia crossed his face.

"Jack... looks like you've grown."

Jack blinked in confusion. "Uh... I'm wearing pants, King. How could you tell?"

"Bam!"

King kicked Jack to the ground and fully drew his sword.

When Jack returned to the harbor later—nursing a black eye and a bruised nose—he froze in shock.

Towering over the dock were two colossal figures, each over 20 meters tall, stepping off an enormous wooden raft. Their grotesque appearances were hard to ignore. One had the number 1 tattooed on his body, while the other bore the number 3.

The giant with the number 1 had long, sharp ears, a widow's peak cutting into his black hair, a pair of horns curling upward from above his ears, and an unsettlingly twisted, malicious grin. His waist was adorned with several gourds, hinting at his penchant for alcohol.

The giant with the number 3, on the other hand, had thin, elongated horns and a round, chubby face that gave him an oddly naïve appearance. A bushy beard adorned his chin, and strapped to his back was a katana so massive that it dwarfed Jack. On closer inspection, it almost looked like the katana was wearing him.

Jack couldn't process what he was seeing. "What kind of designs are these?" he muttered, baffled.

Noticing Jack's astonished expression, King smirked and explained, "These are the Numbers of the Beasts Pirates. That's Ichimei and Sangui."

(T/N: These are non-canon characters)

"The Numbers?" Jack echoed.

"Correct," King replied. "They're a special rank within the crew, somewhere between the Tobiroppo and the All-Stars. They're unique—a product of Kaido's... dealings with the World Government. Failed experiments in recreating ancient giants."

Jack's jaw dropped. "Dealing with the World Government? Aren't we enemies?"

King shrugged. "Enemies, yes. But the World Government doesn't operate with the unity you'd expect. It's more complicated than that."

Jack rolled his eyes. "Of course I understand that. It's just weird seeing this kind of thing happen here."

King nodded. "The Numbers, despite their failed origins, are incredibly useful. Their massive strength and durability make them perfect for both conquering and defending territory. That's why Kaido sent Ichimei and Sangui here. They'll guard the mines from now on."

Jack scrutinized the towering duo. Sangui made sense—he did look like a ghost. But Ichimei?

"What's so 'beautiful' about you, huh? Planning on getting cosmetic surgery or something?"

Before he could dwell on the thought, the two giants noticed them.

"King-sama!"

Their thunderous voices echoed as they lumbered over, shaking the ground with every step. By the time Jack recovered from the ringing in his ears, the two were already standing in front of him.

"You two," King said calmly, gesturing toward Jack, "will follow Jack's orders for now. Once things settle, you'll be stationed here permanently."

The giants leaned down, their enormous heads looming over Jack.

"What's your rank in the crew?" Ichimei asked, his foul breath hitting Jack like a gust of poison wind.

"Are you a Tobiroppo? Or an All-Stars like King-sama?"

Jack pinched his nose and grimaced. "First off, ever heard of brushing your teeth? Second, I'm just a Shinuchi—a Shinuchi, not a Tobiroppo or anything higher."

Before he could continue, Ichimei cut him off.

"A mere Shinuchi?" he sneered, turning to King. "King-sama, Kaido-sama said we only take orders from those ranked above the Tobiroppo. Why should we listen to this shrimp?"

Sangui nodded in agreement. "Yeah! He's way below us."

King sighed, clearly annoyed. He turned to Jack. "Just don't kill them, okay? Kaido spent a lot of money on these two."

Jack grinned, cracking his knuckles. "Got it, King."

Before the giants could react, Jack charged forward, his weapon gleaming in the sunlight. In the blink of an eye, he leapt onto the deck of their raft and launched himself high into the air.

The ensuing fight was one-sided.

Ichimei and Sangui's immense size gave them terrifying strength and durability, but it also made them slow and clumsy. Against a fighter of Jack's caliber—whose strength and skill had grown immensely—they were little more than oversized punching bags.

After a series of brutal strikes, the two giants collapsed, unconscious.

As the dust settled, Jack's expression turned serious. A familiar figure appeared, dragging the bloodied and beaten Holdem in one hand. His other hand, however, had transformed into the upper body of a black gorilla, pounding its chest menacingly.

Jack's gaze sharpened. "Blissgra. Did your arm get stuck in a gorilla, or are you just into weird stuff now?"
