One Piece: My Name is Jack, I'm Very Resistant to Beating

Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Can You Sing?

BOOM!

Jack landed at the port with a thunderous crash, drawing immediate attention from those nearby.

A pirate wearing a wide-brimmed sun hat and holding a flintlock rifle turned briefly to glance at Jack. Initially dismissive, his face changed dramatically when he noticed the rapidly approaching Mammoth.

It wasn't just any ship—it bore the infamous flag of the Beasts Pirates. The distinct twin horns, identical to those atop Kaido's head, jutted out from the skull insignia. The sight sent a chill down the pirate's spine, and he shouted in panic:

"Captain Pub! Trouble's here! The Beasts Pirates are attacking!"

At the call, a tall, imposing pirate turned. His oversized cranium and single eye gave him an eerie presence as he finished off his opponent with a single strike. Then, he barked orders with authority:

"Fall back! Regroup!"

Meanwhile, the port's defenders, a group of over a hundred worn and desperate fighters, noticed the chaos among the pirates. Upon seeing the Mammoth, their leader, an elderly man, wore an expression of deep conflict.

"Hmm?"

Jack's voice boomed, interrupting the moment.

"Not bad. You've rallied together faster than I expected. I'll give you that," he said, stepping forward with his spiked club resting casually on his shoulder.

The pirate captain, Pub, gripped his longsword tightly and shouted back, "Who are you in the Beasts Pirates? State your name!"

Jack didn't respond immediately. He swept his gaze over the pirates, then shifted to the defenders. Meanwhile, two other figures leapt off the Mammoth—Rim, the Ghost Swordsman, and Holdem, flanked by a handful of lackeys.

Among the defenders, an elderly man with a gaunt frame and a long scar across his left cheek tightened his grip on his oversized greatsword. When Jack's gaze landed on him, the old man quickly lowered his head.

"Captain Pub, that guy… he might be the Beasts Pirates' Shinuchi, Ghost Swordsman Rim," said the sun-hatted pirate, flipping through a stack of bounty posters. "He's worth 80 million belly. Rumor has it his swordsmanship is remarkable."

"As for the big guy who landed first… he doesn't seem to be on their bounty list."

"Is that so? Hah! Eighty million? Pfft, not even close to my bounty of 120 million!" Pub laughed, his single eye glinting.

But as he looked Jack up and down again, his laughter waned into a frown.

"Still, the way that guy carries himself… if Rim's standing behind him, his status must be higher. But why haven't I heard of him before?"

Pub's gaze shifted to the massive weapon on Jack's shoulder. His expression turned serious.

"Wait… is that… could he be connected to Kaido himself?"

After a pause, Pub called out, "Buck, back me up if this guy turns out to be more trouble than we can handle."

Then, glancing at Rim, he instructed, "Scott, you handle the Ghost Swordsman. Got it?"

The sun-hatted pirate gave Jack a cold, calculating look before nodding. "Understood, Captain Pub."

Behind Pub, a towering, bald brute with a gleaming forehead thumped his chest and bellowed,

"Relax, Captain! That so-called Ghost Swordsman? I'll crush him with one hand!"

Across the battlefield, Rim's eyes narrowed as he recognized Pub. "Jack-sama," he muttered. "That guy… he's a dangerous one. A captain of the Roast Chicken Pirates, and a skilled swordsman at that. His crew's no joke either."

"He was even named one of last year's Supernovas. He's been making waves in the New World."

Jack tilted his head, visibly unimpressed. "Supernova? What's that? A boy band or something? And this guy? With one eye? How'd he debut? What does he sing? He looks like a burnt chicken!"

"Roast Chicken Pirates? Did they eat too much chicken or something?"

Rim sighed, exasperated. "Jack-sama, I don't mind your interest in music, but can we focus on the mission? We're pirates, not performers! 'Supernova' is a term for rookies who've earned over 100 million belly before reaching the New World."

He continued in a rushed explanation, "They're dangerous enough that even the Navy keeps an eye on them. Ordinary pirates are wary of them too. Anyone with that kind of bounty so early is no pushover."

After his rant, Rim broke into a violent coughing fit, clutching his chest.

Pub seized the opportunity. "Fire! Open fire!" he commanded.

Bang!

Jack, unfazed, scooped Rim up and crouched, shielding him with his massive frame. Bullets pinged harmlessly off Jack's skin, falling to the ground with dull thuds.

Pub cursed under his breath. "What the hell is this monster? Buck, stay sharp and back me up!"

Rim wheezed, "Thank you, Jack-sama… I—"

"Shut up," Jack grunted, clamping a hand over Rim's mouth. "Next time, save your breath. You'll keel over from coughing before you even get a chance to fight."

Rim felt a flicker of gratitude—until Jack added, "By the way, this disease of yours isn't contagious, is it? Actually, just to be safe, stay away from me from now on."

The gratitude vanished.

On the battlefield, Holdem had already led a charge, cutting down Roast Chicken Pirates left and right. His mechanical sword danced like fireworks, leaving stunned opponents in its wake. Meanwhile, a massive, bald pirate with a trident-like weapon stepped in front of Rim.

The brute sneered. "So you're the Ghost Swordsman? With a name like that, I expected some freak with six arms. Turns out you're just a scrawny weakling!" He laughed cruelly. "I'll crush you with one hand! Remember this name: Scott!"

Rim's face darkened as he hissed, "I only remember three kinds of names: those stronger than me, women, and…"

Scott leaned closer, confused. "And?"

"…The names of the dead."

With that, Rim's blade flashed toward Scott's throat.

As the chaos raged, Jack strode toward Pub, stopping just short of him. Standing eye-to-eye with Pub's unnaturally large skull, Jack tilted his head and asked,

"So… you're, uh… Mop? No, Pub? Whatever. The name doesn't matter."

He leaned in slightly, his voice dropping to a menacing whisper.

"I just want to know one thing. Can you sing?"

Pub blinked, taken aback. "Sing?"

"Yeah. Like a song about your favorite food. Roast chicken, maybe?"
