One Piece: Alucard the Immortal

Chapter 146: The Marines' Secon Island Operation

Whoosh!

After Alucard annihilated several pirate crews that had just entered the New World, he licked the fresh blood from the back of his hand.

His internal reserves of life force now exceeded thirty thousand, a quantity sufficient to ensure his unrivaled dominance against any opponent. Continuous battles could replenish his life, but fighting these wastes offered no boost to his abilities, nor any internal satisfaction.

Recently, with the opening of the Great Pirate Era, all factions had grown busy.

...

Secon Island.

Secon Island was an excellent island in all respects, with a mid-to-high economic standing in the New World. It was too close to a Marine branch to become a pirate stronghold. The island featured a colossal volcano that nearly covered its entire area.

Alucard currently sat in a café in Secon Island's city, holding a newspaper and gathering important intelligence from the past few days.

First, Garp had led a team to thoroughly investigate every place Roger had visited in the year after disbanding his pirate crew.

It was rumored that during Roger's solitary travels, he had exhibited fatherly emotions. This had led the government to suspect: could the Pirate King... possibly have descendants?

Thus, with a resolve to rather kill the innocent than let a potential heir slip by, the Marines began extensive searches.

Even though the newspaper didn't print it, Alucard knew how many civilians, pregnant women, and even newborn infants this would inevitably kill.

Roger, that bastard, truly was a devil... though Alucard, being a devil himself, had no right to judge.

"I really want to meet her," Alucard murmured to himself.

The whole world should have known Roger was the Pirate King when he disbanded his crew and traveled alone. Under such circumstances, what kind of woman dared to unite with a man like that devil?

Alucard genuinely wanted to meet her, very much so. But lacking information, and knowing this was undoubtedly a top-secret known only to Garp, Alucard reluctantly abandoned the idea of meeting Roger's wife.

What had recently captured Alucard's attention was another matter entirely: a news report published two days prior.

The Marine's Science Unit had developed something called "Seastone," dubbed a treasure "condensing the power of the sea," capable of nullifying Devil Fruit abilities. Seastone handcuffs were now being mass-produced to incarcerate the numerous Devil Fruit users currently held in Impel Down.

The "honor" of being bound by Seastone chains fell to the great pirate Golden Lion Shiki.

Alucard had to admit, he sometimes thought the Marines were a bit foolish. Golden Lion Shiki was such a massive threat; after capturing him, they should have promptly executed him instead of keeping him alive. It would certainly backfire in the end.

However, since Seastone handcuffs were already in production, Seastone bullets were likely only a matter of time. Yet, Vegapunk was an extremely unpredictable individual. He might change his mind at any moment, so Alucard had to find a way to remind him, especially after such a long time had passed.

Just as Alucard had this thought, he overheard a conversation from a nearby table where a couple was sitting.

"Hey, did you know? The Marines landed on this island this morning."

"Huh? What's going on? Is it pirates?"

Upon hearing this, Alucard's eyes subtly shifted towards them. He was currently using another man's body. Not that he feared the Marines, but after drifting at sea for some time, he had finally found a decent city and wanted to enjoy a good vacation and rest.

He didn't want to be disturbed during this period, so he had slightly altered his appearance. Could it be that the Marines had discovered his disguise?

He continued listening as the couple discussed the Marines.

"No, they seem to be studying the large volcano outside the city."

"Studying the volcano? What's there to study about a volcano?" the man asked, puzzled.

"I don't know, but my friend said that when they passed by, they saw not just Marines, but also many people in white lab coats, dressed like doctors. And they were setting up some instruments at the volcano outside the city; it looked like they were researching something," the woman recalled. She added, "But our volcano does erupt more frequently than usual, so there might really be a problem. Wouldn't it be good if their research could find a solution?"

The man sighed. "Compared to the volcano, pirates are the real source of trouble. Ever since Gold Roger's words, pirates in the New World have rapidly increased. It's really worrying."

The woman smiled faintly. "Secon Island is very close to a Marine branch, so I'm sure nothing will happen."

"I hope so," the man consoled himself. Just then, they heard the scrape of a chair from the adjacent table. Instinctively, they looked to their right, only to see a few banknotes left on the table, the person having vanished.

Alucard had previously infiltrated the Marine Headquarters Science Unit disguised as a CP0 agent. He knew that almost everyone there wore white lab coats, and from the memories he had gained, the only people in the Marines and government who wore white lab coats were those from the Science Unit. That is, Vegapunk's unit.

If that's the case, then it's worth a look, and more importantly, had Vegapunk himself arrived?

As the woman in the café had said, the Marines were indeed gathered by the large volcano near the town. However, the Marines had set up a blockade, and there were still many curious onlookers stopping and staring.
