While all of this was happening the day turned into evening. And Adam got a call from Kevin on his burner phone. Adam was present in his own apartment at this time.

He had returned a little while ago from Sophia's apartment. He had gone there to check on her again. He had never spent so much time with Sophia before today.

He was happy about this development. But at the same time he was also very angry that some unknown people were after his business. Adam knew he would have to teach them a lesson they would not forget.

But Adam did not have any obvious way by which he could take direct action against them. He did not know who was truly behind the attack. And Adam was not going to file any official case against them.

Because Adam knew that the legal system was a slow and often useless process. It was a number one nonsense.

And nothing significant would happen from it. In this whole ordeal Adam had noticed a biggest flaw in his entire plan. He lacked the ability to directly project power.

He had money but he needed something more. He knew it was a weakness which he would definitely correct in the future.

As soon as Adam saw that a call from Kevin was coming on his other phone he immediately picked up Kevin's call. He was hoping for some good news.

Kevin's voice came through the line. It was all business. "I have got the details of all those people you asked for," he said.

"Let me tell you what I found. All these investigators are generally working under one special officer. Although these officers are mostly corrupt and known for taking bribes."

"But I don't think they have any direct relation with any major criminal organization. Or with any big institution like the ones in the Empire."

"But yes when my people were investigating they found out one thing," Kevin continued.

"Their senior officer the one in charge of the whole investigation. He does not have much property inside our locked-down country. But some evidence has been found. I can't say for sure because the trail is well hidden. But some strong evidence has been found that suggests he has some property inside the Empire."

Adam only needed to hear this much. And his entire suspicion had become correct. He knew now. The one targeting his bank was not anyone sitting inside his own country.

It was not a local rival or a corrupt politician.

But it was someone sitting inside the Empire itself. Someone powerful enough to reach across borders and cause trouble for him. His bank had come into their sight.

And this was a very worrying thing for Adam. Because in the future Adam planned to launch many such disruptive ventures.

Then a very big problem had arisen in front of Adam. A problem he had to solve right now before it grew any larger. He could not afford to be constantly on the defensive.

Then Kevin said "I don't understand why you are after these people so hard. They seem like small-time corrupt officials. Why are they so important to you?" He was curious about the bigger picture.

"Why were you asking me to find information about them?" Kevin asked again.

Then Adam gave a simple excuse. "A friend of mine asked me to," he said. "That's why I was doing this. Anyway thank you for your help." Saying this Adam cut the phone.

He did it without hearing Kevin's reply. He did not want to get into a longer conversation. He had what he needed.

Adam had finally understood what his biggest mistake was. He had a grand vision. He had thought that he would build a strategic empire.

An empire which would have no shortage of money. He had the ultimate financial weapon. But in his focus on wealth and business he forgot the most important thing. He forgot about power. Real power.

He realized he could not keep that empire stable. He could not protect it from his enemies. Not until he had a force of his own. A force which could hunt down and kill his enemies while staying in the shadows.

Adam knew that this was the real world. A world where idealism does not work. A world where one has to be practical to survive. And Adam had this flaw in his plan.

After that this service started its work by deducting the required fee from his bank account. A few moments later the search was complete. And he got three options. Three potential candidates for the job.

But as he looked at the first option in the list Adam immediately ignored the other two options.

There was something about the first candidate that immediately caught his attention. And he summoned the full details of this first option.

After which he found out exactly who it was. The man's profile appeared on his screen. His name was simply "The Butcher."

The Butcher. Who for now had only done a little work as a small-time goon. Although he had just passed out of college. He was young and full of raw aggression.

And just after leaving college he had to face jail for the very first time. It was because of a small street fight that had gotten out of control. After which when he was finally released from jail in a few months.

As soon as he came out he immediately got back into his same violent behavior. It was the only life he knew. Because of this destructive behavior his parents finally threw him out of their house.

They could not handle him anymore.

Because of this aggressive behavior of The Butcher a local gang took notice of him. They recruited him into their gang.

They saw his potential for violence and wanted to use it for their own purposes. And they gave him a mission to prove his loyalty.

But that mission was a setup. It was a trap mission from the very beginning. Which no one else in the gang knew.

The leaders had planned it to get rid of a rival and also to test the new recruit. Because of which The Butcher got trapped. He had walked right into an ambush. And now he is locked up in jail again. This time for a much more serious crime.

He was locked up in a jail in the neighboring province. The prison's name was Central Jail. A high-security facility known for housing the most dangerous criminals.

His current sentence was five years for the initial crime. Although the other cases that were still pending against him were many.

And his minimum potential sentence for all those combined charges was written as at least twenty-five years. For now he had only been sentenced to five years in the first case.

But the highest possible punishment if he was found guilty in all of his other cases. Then he would be locked up in jail for at least a lifetime.

And the report also mentioned that he could also be hanged.

Seeing this grim future laid out for the young man Adam smiled a lot. A man with no hope is a man who can be completely controlled.

And then Adam brought out another clean burner phone. A phone which he had saved for these very specific purposes. For the operations that needed to be kept completely separate from his other activities.

Adam would use some of his newly acquired contacts. And he would recruit The Butcher. He would pull him out of his hopeless situation.

And in return The Butcher would operate his new shadow gang. Adam would make The Butcher the first leader of this new shadow gang.

A man who would owe him everything. A man who would obey his every word without question. He would be the perfect instrument of Adam's will.
