Chapter 91: Timeless
Lunel herself knew that the baffle was over.
Whist uninjured, she and Lillian were evenly matched. Now with the gash in her leg, she stood no chance.
Curse this weak transformation. This will be the death of me.
Lunel always thought that she did not deserve to be the eighth-ranked. After all, she felt like the ninth and tenth were stronger than her.
Of course, she did not argue with King Helix about this. The man had his reasons.
Lunel gritted her teeth through the pain and charged forward once again.
Lillian could see the woman's steps were sloppy. She could end the battle within the next few exchanges.
Lunel swung her arms in a double slash, which was easily parried by Lillian, who then delivered a kick into the woman's stomach, sending her toppling to the ground.
But Lunel wasn't finished. She wouldn't allow herself to be killed so easily.
She rolled to her feet and charged again.
As the Angel came into the distance, she swung her bladed arms once again. This time, Lillian increased her speed and dodged beneath the strike.
Then, she pivoted around Lulel so quickly that the Angel thought that the woman vanished. Until she felt a hot pain score through the entirety of her back.
Lillian had delivered a diagonal slash from the top of her back to the bottom. Blood squirted from the wound and onto the holy blade.
It took only moments for Lulel to fall to her knees defeated. The loss of blood caused her to lose consciousness, leaving Lillian as the victor of the battle.
And she had done it without taking a scratch.
"Well done, my lady," Faith announced after having watched the entire scene play out. "As expected from a Maiden of the king."
Lillian heaved in and out, trying to regain the breath that she had wasted when increasing her speed.
She looked down at the woman's body. Her bloody back was still falling and rising with breaths.
So she's not dead. Good. Raphael could use her.
"Are you ready to face the next one?" Faith asked.
Truthfully, Lillian wasn't certain. She knew that in terms of rank, the other woman should be weaker. But could she be certain of such a fact?
Regardless, she had no choice. Plus, part of her wished to continue fighting. To play her role in defending the Dragon School.
Raphael was more than capable of handling things himself, but she wished to be of use to him. To play her role as a maiden.
With a nod of the head, she signalled to Faith that she was ready.
The pocket dimension quickly collapsed around them, and all the students of the Dragon school reappeared in their vision.
For a moment, everybody's face was filled with complete and utter disbelief.
To them, it would seem as though Lulel had suddenly fallen to the ground from a cut that they had never seen Lillian deliver.
The Ninth Dragon looked at her fallen comrade with her jaw dropped. She could not believe what was going on.
Then, her eyes fell on Lillian's blade, and the blood dripping from it. Her face was skewed with rage.
Her hands tightened on the large black spear which she had summoned.
"You've killed my Sister Angel, and for that, you will be punished." She spoke solemnly.
Lillian prepared herself. She could sense the anger coming from the woman and had no doubt she would attack.
"And you will be killed by Scarlett, the Ninth Angel!"
The woman stepped forward and threw the black spear towards Lillian with all her might.
The attack caught her off guard, as she had expected the Angel to use it as a melee weapon.
She quickly brought up her blade to deflect the strike. The force jarred her entire arms, making them feel numb, but she successfully deflected the spear to the side. A crowd of students had to dive out of the way in case they were hit.
Before Lillian could even recover, Scarlett had summoned another of the black spears and sent it flying again.
Shit!
Lillian deflected again, but this time, the strike was too powerful. As she deflected the spear to the side, she lost grip of her holy blade, and it was sent flying into the air.
Her eyes buldged as she looked at her opponent.
The Ninth Angel had already summoned two more of the black spears, and her arms were drawn back prepared to throw them both.
Woosh
Lillian dodged out of the way, allowing the spear to crash into the ground to the side of her.
But the woman had predicted her movements.
She threw the other spear right afterwards, towards the direction that Lillian had dodged.
It was a calculated movement, and she knew so, as a smile etched onto her face.
Lillian was going to die.
...
Time seemed to slow as she watched the spear hurtling towards her. It's black energy ripping through the air.
The spear travelled with such speed that it would simply tear through Lillian and emerge through her back.
Coming to this realisation, Lillian made a decision.
I'm going to have to use it.
For her entire time in the five schools, Lillian relied on the usage of the Holy Blade. The weapon itself carried properties stronger than many of the schools' students.
But the more time she spent with the weapon, the more she neglected her true abilities.
Her birthright.
Lillian tapped into the power that resided deep in her mind. An ability that she had only ever used a handful of times, due to the strain it put on her entire being.
Time began to distort around her, as she felt herself altering reality.
Her Birthright had now been activated.
Timeless.
Unbeknownst to everybody else, the entire world travelled backwards 5 seconds in time. Now, it was as though only Lillian knew what take place in the next five seconds.
Her sword was now back in her grip, and a spear was travelling towards her.
Knowing that the weapon would fly from her hand if she tried to block, she instead ducked beneath the spear and dashed towards her opponent.
Scarlett's eyes were wide in shock. The dodge was almost perfect, as though her opponent had predicted the exact location where the spear would travel.
And because Lillian closed the distance between them so quickly, she was no longer able to throw another spear. She had to fight closeup.
Her weakness.
A black spear was summoned into her hands, which she thrust forward towards her approaching enemy.
At first, she thought that the strike would hit.
Then, Lillian jumped over it, placing her feet on the top of the spear and kicking it to the ground. Scarlett looked up at the green-haired woman, dancing in the air towards her.
She looked like an Angel. An Angel of Death.
Lillian brought her blade down on her opponent, slicing the woman from shoulder to stomach and sending blood spraying from the wound.
And just like that, the battle had been won.
