Chapter 72: The Sixth School
Despite the death of Emperor Joshua, the baffle of the Three Divine Academies against the Five Schools was not yet over.
There were still places where students still fought. Those who had not seen the death of one of the most prominent figures on the field.
Raphael did not care. He would just have to make his pressure further known.
To his left, he saw a student of the Sword school fighting against an enemy. Raphael gripped down on the handles of The Ender and dashed forwards to intercede.
With one swing of his blade, he took the man's head from his shoulders, sending blood flying.
Those nearby who witnessed the scene shuddered in fear. The man he had just killed was clearly a well-known figure.
Raphael was taken aback at how easy he found taking the lives. There was something about the audacity of the Three Divine Academies that angered him enough to feel they were worthy of death.
Perhaps it was the fact that he knew many of the women he had grown fond of were put in danger because of it.
Or perhaps, he was already playing the role of a king. Protecting what could someday be his.
He swooped forward again, this time taking the arm off of an opponent. The man screamed in agony and clutched his wound. The sound seemed to draw attention.
And to no surprise, the word of the Emperor's death had begun to sound through the field. Most that heard were in disbelief. Surely their Emperor could not lose his life so easily?
But that was because these students were yet to see the Ender. Those who had, had lost hope. They knew that the battle would be lost. No one on that battlefield would be able to fight against Raphael in a fair fight.
Slowly, the action began to die down.
"It can't be. Has his majesty truly fallen?"
"Y-yes. The Dragon Son murdered him. Tore his body in half."
"Then what are we fighting for. This is already a lost battle."
As chatter erupted around the Five School gardens, the enemy began to withdraw their Birthrights in surrender. Rachel's allies wanted to cheer for their victory, but they couldn't.
For most, it was the first time they had witnessed a life being taken. The smell of death lingered in the air, and limbs and corpses were scattered across the field. The maids would have a lot of work to do.
However, thanks to Raphael, the losses had not been too severe.
Just as Raphael was about to withdraw his weapon, he heard footsteps coming towards him.
As he turned towards the sound, he saw a group of three men walking towards him.
They all carried an air to them that suggested they were powerful men. Not only that, but they all wore a uniform different from the others. It seemed to be royal, as though they were of a higher position.
As they stepped up to him, the three men dropped to one knee.
"My Lord. We are the princes of the three Divine Academies', please accept our surrender in the stead of our Emperor."
Raphael looked at the men in disbelief.
I know the queens aren't nearby, but do they truly see me as the leader of the Five Schools?
Those around seemed to have no objections. It was as though Raphael taking control of things was the natural order.
But before he could answer, the Five Queens arrived.
They were all unmarked by battle and had yet to even draw their Birthrights, but it was Harmony who walked at the front. Her crown sat atop her pink hair, granting her a majestic look.
The three princes stayed on their knees as they watched the queen's approach. Their respect clearly extended to the Five women.
"Coming here was a foolish decision." The Rose Queen said to the men, as she looked at the severed body of the Emperor. "I'm sure you can see that already. You followed behind a man who came here just to die straight away."
"It was expected." Maria continued, cheeks red. "After all, he came up against Raphael Brooks. The son of the Dragon."
Raphael was taken aback by the Phoenix Queen's words. It seemed that her respect for him had increased even further.
The three princes simply nodded their heads solemnly.
"Yes, we know our attack was more than foolish. But in our defence, my ladies, this was not our choice."
One of the other princes chimed in.
"That's right. We were all forced into this position. With no space left in the Five Schools, we had nowhere else to go. Emperor Joshua presented an option to us. The Three Divine Academies. We were all given a space, in exchange for one thing. That we follow his every order."
Harmony shook her head in disappointment.
So the man was a dictator. A future tyrant.
Raphael did not feel bad for cutting him down.
For the first time since arriving, Cecilia, the Sword Queen finally spoke.
"The question is, what do we do with these students now."
Raphael looked around the field, seeing hundreds of students on their knees, surrendered.
Harmony and Maria scratched at their chins in thought. But before they could come up with an answer, an idea popped into Raphael's head.
It was a risk, but he saw no better opportunity.
He cleared his throat.
"A Sixth School."
The Queen's looked at him in utter shock.
It was Persephone, The Crown Queen, who seemed most surprised. Yet the surprise only lasted for a second. She wanted to reprimand Raphael for even making such a suggestion. After all, who was he to think of such a thing.
But she was wrong, and she realised that quickly.
Not only had Raphael defeated her number one knight, Vaclenio, but he had gone on the kill the enemy Emperor just shortly afterwards, potentially saving the schools from many more deaths.
It went without saying that Raphael stood above all students of the Five Schools. He was an anomaly.
Raphael continued his suggestion.
"If we create a sixth school, all of these people who were rejected and forced to join Emperor Joshua's forces will have a home. And even better, they will be a part of us."
As he continued to speak, the idea seemed more appealing to them, however, there was one question lingering over all of their heads.
It was Rosalind, the Cloud Queen who asked it.
"B-but who would lead them? The Five Schools are all ruled by us, the five queens. Who could possibly lead a sixth." She said shyly, but the answer had come to everyone else before she even finished her sentence.
Harmony's lips twisted into a smug smile.
"Well, that's easy." She said, now loud enough for all students nearby to hear.
"Raphael Brooks. He will be the King of the Sixth School.
