Chapter 108: Executioners Blade

Raphael led Alicia into the room next to his. The entire time, the woman walked without worry.

For some reason, it seemed as though she was comfortable, despite being taken hostage.

As they entered the room, she unstrapped her large hammer and placed it on the bed. Raphael watched the tall woman as she made herself comfortable.

"Better than the room I get at the palace." The fourth angel said as she sat down and tested the comfort of the mattress. "I hate luxury. This is more my style."

Raphael looked at Alicia with fascination. Despite being an angel of King Helix, she hardly seemed to be suited for the role.

He closed the door and leaned up against it.

"So," Raphael said. "Do you know why I'm here?"

Alicia shrugged her shoulders. "I assume you want to take down King Helix. It would make sense. After all, he has sent some of his best after you, especially if what you say about Saint Michael is true."

"It is." Raphael responded sharply.

"Well then. There's honestly not much else I can tell you about the man. He is everything you'd expect from a king. He currently has no heirs, as he sees the Angels as his children. His wife has bore him none of his own."

Raphael's ears suddenly perked up.

A wife. The king has a wife...

Interesting.

After nodding his head in acknowledgement, Raphael had a question lurking in his mind.

"You don't seem to care much for the King. Is there a reason for this?"

The Fourth Angel's body jolted for a moment, as though she was fearful of something. However, it only took a few seconds to realise that it was unwarranted.

Helix was not around.

"I don't serve the King by choice. I struggle to respect a man who thinks of himself as a god."

It was at that moment when Raphael came to an understanding of the woman in front of him. It made sense as to why she was so quick to surrender when they engaged in battle.

She did not love the King.

"I see. What about the other Angels? Can you tell me anything about them?" Raphael asked, realising he should focus on his most immediate threat.

Alicia nodded her head. "Of course. After all, the angel after me is my sister. The Third Angel, Amaya."

Raphael noted the name down in his head.

My next target.

"What does she look like? If you help me out, I will do her no harm."

A faint chuckle left Alicia's mouth.

"She is not difficult to find. Amaya is an executioner. In fact, she has one planned tomorrow morning. If you seek her out, you will find her with ease. She will be the one wielding the executioner's blade."

Raphael was surprised that the woman was so open to giving him information on her sister, but he logged it in his memory regardless.

"Thank you. If all goes well, I will bring her here tomorrow."

Alicia shrugged her shoulders before lying down on her back and letting out a sigh.

"I should warn you," the fourth angel started. "My sister is nothing like me. She loves King Helix and will not surrender. You will have to defeat her."

Raphael turned to the door and pulled it open. "Let's hope that will not be the case." He said over his shoulder, before exiting and heading to his own room.

---

After a short sleep, Raphael woke up early in the morning and put on his civilian disguise.

The city was cold as usual, which allowed him to wear his hat over his head and a scarf around the lower half of his face.

Heather had asked him if he wanted breakfast, but he denied it. There was no time to eat food.

He had an execution to attend.

---

It did not take long for Raphael to find the Third Angel, Amaya.

The entire city spoke of the public execution that would take place in the western district of the city.

Crowds of people travelled in waves through the streets, before ending up at a large square, with a raised wooden platform at its centre.

Once there, Raphael tried to push through the busy crowd to get a closer look at what was going on. Chatter ushered through the crowd, talking about the event about to take place.

They only quietened when a man with a sack over his head was dragged through and brought to the staircase.

Two large knights were guiding him, but the person that lurked behind was who Raphael was looking for.

She looked just like Alicia. Tall, short black hair, armoured. The only difference was that this woman wore a gruesome claymore on her back, rather than a hammer.

Raphael looked closer and saw a smirk on the woman's face as she stood over the kneeling man before her.

Even though he wore a sack over his head, it was clear that he was in utter fear. The man had pissed himself, and his body's trembles were noticeable even from afar.

With a sharp whistle, the Third Angel silenced the crowd.

"I'm glad you have all gathered here today, to witness the death of a treasoner!"

Her bass-filled voice brought cheers through the crowd, and the woman drew the claymore from her back. The silver metal whispered from its sheathe.

The crowd hate him... Whatever this man has done, it must be irredeemable.

Amaya leaned over and pulled the sack from the criminal's head.

A young face was revealed. Hardly a man, but rather a boy. His face showed his fear, and the way he cowered from her touch proved it.

"I'm sorry!" The boy screamed to no one in particular. "I will never joke about the King again."

Raphael jolted in surprise.

Joke?

Amaya booted the criminal in the face, breaking his nose and earning greater cheers from the crowd. The strike has silenced him.

"Joke? There is no such thing as jokes when it comes to insulting the King! You called him insecure, and for that, you will die."

Raphael couldn't hear himself over the chants that suddenly grew in the crowd.

"Kill him!"

"Kill him!

"Kill him!"

Raphael wanted to burn them all, but it went against his plans.

Insecure. He is being executed for calling the King insecure.

Raphael's thoughts were interrupted, as Amaya rose her claymore and brought it down swiftly onto the man's neck, severing his head from his body.

Applause sounded through the streets as Amaya leaned over and lifted the head into the air.

Raphael gritted his teeth in rage.

It was confirmed to him then. His promise to Alicia would not be met.

The Third Angel would die today.
