Chapter 106: The Holy Temple
Rather than walking through the busy streets searching for the fourth angel, Raphael decided to take a different approach.
After all, even if he found her, he would not fight her out in the open. It would only blow his cover and expose his identity to the entire city.
That was not how he wished to do things.
So instead, he travelled to the alleyways of the streets and found a ladder leading to a rooftop.
The way that Snowdon was designed, you could travel through the city by jumping across the rooftops of the buildings.
He decided to wait there until the nighttime, and continue his search then.
---
As the sun fell, Raphael was one of the few remaining people still out in the cold air.
From above, he looked down upon the streets and saw people returning home from their long days. The only people who still roamed were the knights and a group of people wearing religious clothing.
It had been a while since he saw such people, as the six schools were not known for having religious people.
As his eyes followed the people wearing white robes, amongst their group, he spotted a figure that stood out to him.
Instantly, he knew who it was.
They all wore white veils over their heads and faces for a reason unknown to him, but due to the large great hammer on the woman's back and the way that the others regarded her, it was clear.
She was the Fourth Angel.
Raphael leapt from rooftop to rooftop, remaining in the shadows whilst following the direction of the sect.
It didn't take long for them to reach their destination. A Large Temple.
Slowly, the group began to filter inside, which led to Raphael losing his sight of the woman. Once all had entered, the large double doors were closed.
I should try to get inside. Get a look at what's going on.
Raphael leapt his way over until he reached the Temple. To get to the top, he had to climb the bricks of the building.
He glanced down and realised just how high up he had come. One slip, and would have to summon the fires to grant him a gradual fall.
He reached a window in the temple which granted him a look inside. The group of white-robed individuals were all sat in rows of wooden stands, facing towards a raised stage where a man holding a staff stood and spoke.
Raphael slightly pried open the window, so that he could hear what was being said.
"Today, we come together to honour the name of our great King Helix. May he soon ascend into the heavens." The staffed man shouted.
"Maybe he soon ascend into the heavens." The crowd repeated in unison.
Raphael spotted the Fourth Angel at the front row of the stands, joining in with the congregation.
"Many think that Helix is merely a man, but the truth is known to us today as a collective. Only a god could have Angels beneath him. Our king is holy. Our king is sacred. Our king is immortal!"
The crowd continued to nod their heads and clasped their hands together as they listened to the words. Not a single one seemed to be in disagreement.
Raphael continued to watch from above in disbelief.
They think he is some sort of god? King Helix has an entire religion dedicated to him.
He couldn't help but laugh to himself, though had to keep it down lest he was heard.
What a joke it will be once they realised just how mortal he is.
---
After watching the long-winded and monotonous gathering, the group slowly rose to their feet and began to filter themselves from the temple.
It was time for Raphael to continue with his goal.
It was now way past midnight, so believers made their way back home to rest.
Except for The Fourth.
As an angel, it was her duty to keep the streets safe. Especially in the times of a dangerous man walking through the street.
The entire time she patrolled, her arm was resting on the handle of her hammer over her shoulder.
Raphael wondered if his plan would work, or if the woman would try to flatten him as soon as he approached.
Quietly, he climbed down from the rooftops and made his way over to her.
Somehow, she managed to hear him coming and turned to face him swiftly. But Raphael was still disguised as a civilian with his hair covered.
Realising he was not a threat, she eased the grip on her blade.
"Civilian, have you not heard that the streets are dangerous these days? You shouldn't be sneaking around like that. Almost caved your skull in."
Now up close to the woman, Raphael was granted a closer look at her appearance.
The woman was large. Very large.
For the first time in his life, he hardly had to look down when speaking to a woman. She was probably around six feet tall.
Her skin was white and her hair was black and cut short into a bob. Her face had a handsome look to it and her body seemed well defined.
Definitely not the type of woman that Raphael was interested in.
As he spoke to the woman, he tried his best to make his voice sound as though he were slightly afraid.
"That's exactly why I've come to you, my lady." He announced, not sure what title to use for the woman. Judging by her lack of reaction, she clearly didn't mind.
"On the rooftops, I spotted a man who fit the description given to me by the knights. Blonde hair, crown on head, grey uniform."
Raphael pointed in the direction of the temple roof, and the angel wasted no time.
She pulled the gruesome hammer from her back with only one hand. It was as tall as her.
"Show me exactly where you saw the man." She said in an angered tone.
Raphael started a slight jog towards the temple and waved for the Angel to follow him.
"No problem, my lady."
As he led her to the alleyway between the temple and a small building, a smile etched onto his lips. Of course, he did not allow her to see.
She's walked right into my trap. Tonight, another angel will be conquered.
