North America Gunman Detective

Chapter 1051: 593_2

Jimmy lowered his hands and patted Elliot who was hugging him, "Relax, it's okay."

After verifying everything, the officer returned Jimmy's documents. Jimmy put them away and said, "The two kidnappers are in the room. This is the kid they abducted. The Amber Alert issued by NYPD this morning, you should have received the notification."

Jimmy pulled Elliot out of the room and was about to head toward his car. He stopped and looked at the officers, "Seal off this area. They've got the ransom, and they're still in the room."

The officer nodded in agreement, approached the house, took a look, and shouted out in surprise. Another officer also came to the door.

Jimmy ignored them and first put Elliot in his car, then took out his phone and called Ruiz: "It's done, one dead, one injured, the kid is unharmed."

Ruiz: "Okay, our personnel are on their way and should be there soon."

Jimmy: "Alright, I'll wait for them to arrive before heading back. The police have already arrived at the scene, I've asked them to seal off the site."

Ruiz: "Understood, I've arranged for a forensic team to come along."

Communication between Jimmy and Ruiz was smooth, and he was well-prepared. After calling Ruiz, Jimmy made another call to Kevin to inform him of the results.

Kevin was pleased, admiring Jimmy's efficiency. It was Kevin's first time actively participating in a case handled by Jimmy, something that couldn't be fully appreciated just from the files.

Kevin thought for a moment and told Jimmy he'd await further instructions from Alex Green, then accompany Alex to the FBI office to meet Elliot.

Upon receiving Jimmy's notification, the officers were informed that the FBI would soon take over the scene, so they only alerted dispatch to arrange for an ambulance, seeing no major issues.

The distance from Manhattan to Yonkers City is only 20-30 kilometers, not far apart. However, even at night, New York City's traffic is not very smooth, and it took them quite a while to get there.

Jimmy chatted briefly with Elliot, learning that he hadn't eaten much all day, so he asked the officers to help buy hamburgers and mineral water to tide Elliot over.

When the forensic team arrived at the scene, Jimmy instructed them to investigate the room and had two support agents go with the police to handle the kidnappers at the hospital, while he took Elliot back to the Manhattan office.

Although it was nighttime, everyone who needed to be there was present. Peter and Ruiz should have left and returned; they met with Alex and Kevin to show their attention and then left.

The Alex couple reunited with Elliot, hugging and crying, before parting. Jimmy then took Elliot to a conference room for record-keeping, mainly to ask if the kidnappers revealed any clues today that could lead to those behind them. But Elliot was young and too tense, remembering nothing.

Jimmy had no choice but to make a brief record and let him return home with his family.

Kevin nodded to Jimmy and also left the office.

The next morning, as soon as Jimmy arrived at the office, he received some bad news. The guy he spared ended up dying from severe injuries.

This put Jimmy in a tough spot. Whoever dared target the mayor's aide likely has more people behind them, but with all the leads cut off, there's no way to dig deeper.

The forensics department had already retrieved items from the room, including two duffel bags the kidnappers obtained, where the ransom was found.

The ransom couldn't be returned directly to Alex; the FBI had to verify it as evidence and handle it once the case was confirmed closed.

The subsequent investigation of the case became complicated, as Jimmy identified one of the kidnappers through his own abilities without synchronizing that information with NYPD. It wasn't until he tracked him leaving New York City that he contacted Kevin and Ruiz, which was indeed a bit of an oversight.

However, considering the kidnapping case was resolved, the hostage returned unharmed, the two kidnappers were killed, and the ransom was recovered, it was relatively a perfect conclusion for such cases.

The key point was that Jimmy solved everything in less than a day. An Amber Alert was issued in the morning, and by evening everything was settled, a level of efficiency that amazed others.

Jimmy obtained data from the forensic department, including fingerprints and phones of the two individuals, confirming both had criminal records, making it easier to trace their related information, though this was limited to just the two and their family backgrounds; finding the mastermind behind them was challenging.

Their phone logs did have some call records, but verification revealed most were from unregistered phones, including the ones they held, making it tough to identify the other parties.

After spending most of the day reviewing all the evidence, Jimmy resignedly informed Ruiz that the case couldn't be pursued further, as the cost and returns were simply disproportionate for any further investigation.

Ruiz spoke with Peter and agreed with Jimmy's assessment, allowing the case to finally close.

That evening, Jimmy and Kevin attended a banquet hosted by Alex Green, where the Green family formally thanked Jimmy for rescuing Elliot successfully. The banquet ended with friendly exchanges between Kevin and Green, after which Jimmy drove Kevin home.

In Kevin's study, he was in good spirits. Though the NYPD seemed somewhat at a loss, Kevin's decision-making was sound, and the FBI performed excellently, building goodwill with Alex Green.

Jimmy: "Kevin, do you think you'll go for the commissioner position?"

Kevin nodded: "Not sure yet. Let's first manage the connections well; we still don't know who the next mayor will be."

Jimmy: "There's hope, isn't there?"

Kevin: "Yeah, if everything goes smoothly, and they win re-election next year, there's a big chance."

Jimmy: "That's good. By the way, where are you planning for Nia to go?"

Kevin: "Haven't decided yet. I plan to have a good talk with her these days. The detective department faces fewer risks than patrol officers, but it's still dangerous."

Jimmy: "I think there might be an issue; Nia is different from you. I doubt she would accept leaving a frontline position."

Kevin sat on the sofa in a daze, then after a while said: "What do you think of me making her the NYPD spokesperson? It's inspired by you, having been the FBI spokesperson before. That position isn't bad, right? No fieldwork, media exposure, meeting more people."

Jimmy hadn't expected Kevin's idea to be so broad. Nia isn't the type to silently accept the constraints of being a spokesperson. Her outgoing nature and frontline experience would make it unbearable for her to be in such a role.

Jimmy: "I don't think she would accept that."

Kevin: "Just a thought, let me think more about it. Her current rank isn't high enough for a management position, not even at a branch level."

Jimmy: "Talk with her again; I believe you'll reach a conclusion. Plus, we're getting married in a few months, transitioning to a stable and secure position would be good."

Jimmy and Kevin talked about Nia's affairs for a while, then ended the conversation. Jimmy checked on Nia, whose shoulder wound was nearly healed, and would soon return to work.

As for those unlucky ones, bullet trajectory analysis confirmed that Nia only injured them, and the fatal shots came from the patrol officer's gun, so Nia only needs to await the police department's ruling before ending her administrative leave.
