Naruto: The Tale of an Otsutsuki

Chapter 165: Chapter 165: The Pull of Gravity

The Deva Path moved swiftly, weaving through the forest of towering structures, heading toward the outskirts of the Rain Village. With his floating ability, he created an increasing gap between himself and Jiraiya, even as the Toad Sages aided the latter in keeping up.

Shima glanced at the surroundings, noticing the diminishing number of towers. "The area's opening up. Something's not right, kid."

"Could he need an open space for his next move?" Fukasaku suggested, using his tongue to latch onto a drainpipe, swinging nimbly across several towers.

Jiraiya's thoughts raced. He recalled intelligence reports from Konoha regarding Akatsuki's methods. Specifically, the organization's use of a giant humanoid golem to seal the tailed beasts' chakra.

"If he plans to use the tailed beasts' power..." Jiraiya muttered, trailing off.

"A tailed beast?" Shima's worry deepened. "That's no small matter. Even for us, dealing with a berserk tailed beast is nearly impossible. And you're saying this 'golem' has absorbed multiple tailed beasts?"

Fukasaku frowned. "If that's true, it explains why he's drawing us away from the village. If the power of a tailed beast were unleashed, it'd level the entire area."

"He's got more of a conscience than I thought..." Shima quipped sarcastically.

Jiraiya stayed silent for a moment before replying, "I hope you're right."

"Since he's preparing something so destructive, we need to stop him before he completes it," Shima declared.

"But we can't get close enough right now," Fukasaku countered. "What's the plan?"

Shima sighed, her tone laced with frustration. "Looks like we'll have to use that illusion after all."

Realization dawned on Fukasaku, and he nodded. "Of course! If we use the sound-based illusion, we can disrupt him even without physical contact. Jiraiya, we'll start preparing. In the meantime, stay as close to him as you can to speed up the effect."

"Understood," Jiraiya said, determination in his voice. He pushed his body harder, narrowing the gap between him and the Deva Path.

Sensing the shift in Jiraiya's pace, the Deva Path glanced over his shoulder. Seeing the two Toad Sages on Jiraiya's shoulders forming seals and chanting, a sense of unease crept over him.

Those two are preparing some kind of jutsu. I need to keep my distance, he thought. He accelerated, pulling farther ahead.

"Damn it, don't run!" Jiraiya shouted, chasing relentlessly.

"Sage Art: Toad Chant!"

As the two Toad Sages began their chant, a strange melody filled the air. The sound reverberated outward, with Jiraiya at its center, spreading in waves.

The Deva Path heard the song, its otherworldly croaks causing him to falter slightly. "An auditory genjutsu?" he muttered, instinctively trying to cover his ears. But refining chakra required his hands to remain free, leaving him unable to shield himself.

"I won't let you escape!" Jiraiya shouted, closing the gap.

The chase led them out of the village and into an open wilderness. The towering structures of the Rain Village gave way to barren terrain.

As the Toad Sages' song continued, Fukasaku grew anxious. "Just a little longer... just a little..."

The Deva Path's resistance slowed, but before the illusion could fully take effect, a black sphere rose in the distance, hovering ominously above the Rain Village. It emanated an immense gravitational force, like a dark sun.

"What... is that?" Fukasaku gasped, momentarily breaking his focus.

The Deva Path, no longer running, turned to face Jiraiya. Hands clasped together, it began to speak.

"Chibaku Tensei..."

But before the technique could activate, the illusion took hold.

The Deva Path found himself trapped in a watery cube, surrounded by four massive, armored, shikigami-like toads. Their giant hands pressed against him, pinning him down both physically and mentally.

An illusion... he realized, the weight of the technique immobilizing him.

"As expected of Jiraiya-sensei," the Deva Path said, his tone calm even within the illusion.

"I always told you never to underestimate an opponent," Jiraiya said, his voice echoing in the illusory space. He stepped forward, looking down at the trapped figure. "This is the end, Nagato. You've lost."

"God does not lose," the Deva Path replied. "Even against you, Jiraiya-sensei."

Jiraiya sighed, his face heavy with regret. "If only you'd chosen a different path. But I can't let you continue. This ends now."

In reality, as Jiraiya stood over the Deva Path's unconscious body, preparing to deal the final blow, the ground began to shake violently.

"What's happening?!" Jiraiya exclaimed as rocks and debris lifted into the air.

"Up there!" Fukasaku shouted, pointing toward the black sphere in the sky.

Jiraiya followed his gaze. The black sphere had intensified its pull, dragging chunks of earth and debris toward it. A massive sphere of rock began to form around it, growing larger by the second.

"When... when did that appear?!" Shima said, her voice laced with panic.

Fukasaku's face darkened. "We were so focused on the illusion, we didn't even notice... Little Jiraiya, we need to retreat now, or we'll be caught in it!"

The gravitational force intensified, pulling Jiraiya and the ground beneath him upward. Despite his efforts to retreat, Jiraiya found himself unable to escape.

"I don't have a choice," Jiraiya said grimly, forming a massive Rasengan. "We have to destroy that thing."

The two Toad Sages channeled their chakra into him, amplifying the Sage chakra in his hands. The Rasengan expanded rapidly, growing to an enormous size.

"Sage Art: Super Big Ball Rasengan!"

Jiraiya hurled the colossal Rasengan at the growing rock sphere. The impact shattered a significant portion of the sphere, sending debris flying in all directions.

But the Deva Path, now standing once more, clasped its hands. "God is invincible," it declared, its voice filled with fervor.

"Chibaku Tensei!"

The shattered pieces of the sphere reassembled, drawn back into place. The gravitational force redoubled, dragging everything—including Jiraiya—toward it.

"Ugh—!" Jiraiya grunted as the debris smashed into him, pinning him against the surface of the rock sphere.

Trapped under the overwhelming weight, Jiraiya's vision began to blur. "Have I failed... again?"

As the darkness closed in, Jiraiya's thoughts turned to Naruto. Naruto... the future is in your hands now...
