Chapter 444: Chapter 444: Have You Heard of Uchiha Madara Phobia?
Shinki's leaned back demeanor, and effortless air of charm, screamed confidence, the kind that came from being both skilled and undeniably handsome.
Okay, fine—he was really handsome.
With examples like Shinki and Namikaze Minato beside him, Nawaki couldn't deny the unfair truth: looks matter. If you're handsome, attracting attention—even from girls—becomes as easy as breathing.
Nawaki, stuck in the awkward position of being neither conventionally ugly nor notably handsome, could only sigh in frustration. It was a strange, uncomfortable middle ground.
After finishing their ramen, Namikaze Minato patted Nawaki's shoulder with a grin, his blue eyes twinkling mischievously. "You'll get there, don't worry. I believe in you."
Then, with an exaggerated wink, Minato walked off, leaving Nawaki staring after him, thoroughly annoyed. What's with that smile? Why does it feel so smug?
Back at the Hokage's office, Uchiha Mikoto's appointment as Tsunade's assistant had not gone unnoticed. Some of the more politically inclined clans began murmuring about what it might signify.
An Uchiha as the Hokage's assistant? Was this a special signal? A shift in policy?
The speculations grew louder, but Tsunade couldn't care less. As she sifted through the endless paperwork on her desk, she grumbled under her breath.
"These people must be crazy," she muttered, slamming a scroll down for emphasis. "Just because Mikoto is now my assistant, they're testing me at every turn. Are they sick or something?"
Shinki, sitting lazily on a nearby couch, nodded solemnly. "A little sick, yes. But it's only a mild case."
Tsunade shot him a sharp look. "Oh? Care to elaborate?"
With a smirk, Shinki leaned forward. "It's called Uchiha Madara Phobia."
"...What?" Tsunade blinked, confused.
"Specifically, they're afraid of another Uchiha Madara emerging," Shinki explained, raising a finger. "Your second grandfather, Tobirama Senju, left behind policies targeting the Uchiha because of this fear. It's less about individual Uchiha and more about a collective paranoia."
Tsunade frowned. "So you're saying even my grandfather and the Third Hokage had this... phobia?"
Shinki nodded. "Precisely. They're terrified of another Madara. Let me explain."
He gestured for Tsunade to move her feet off the coffee table and took a seat. "Think about the history of the Senju and Uchiha clans. During the Warring States period, the two clans were constantly at war. The Senju clan fought the Uchiha, and the name Uchiha appears in your clan's history books more times than you can count."
Tsunade nodded slowly, recalling the stories her grandmother Uzumaki Mito and Tobirama often told her. The accounts always emphasized the ferocity and might of the Uchiha, particularly Madara.
Shinki continued, "Now imagine this: the Uchiha clan under Madara was so powerful they could obliterate entire clans if they wanted to. They were ruthless, arrogant, and devastatingly efficient under his leadership."
He paused for effect. "Your grandfather Hashirama and Madara were rivals, but they also balanced each other. Without someone as powerful as Hashirama, who could suppress another Madara if he emerged?"
Tsunade rubbed her temples, slowly piecing it together. "So, this whole thing—the policies, the paranoia—it's all because they're still haunted by Madara?"
"Exactly," Shinki confirmed. "It's not just a fear of Uchiha; it's Madara. The policies your second grandfather created were his way of ensuring that no one like Madara could ever rise again."
Tsunade sighed heavily, leaning back in her chair. "So all these years of tension between the village and the Uchiha were fueled by this... phobia?"
"Pretty much," Shinki said. "And it's not just paranoia. For people who lived through those times—like your teacher, the Third Hokage—it's very real. They saw the devastation Madara caused firsthand. That fear runs deep."
Tsunade was quiet for a moment, her mind racing. She had grown up hearing tales of the Uchiha's arrogance and power, but this perspective added a new layer to the story.
"Do you think this phobia is justified?" she finally asked.
Shinki shrugged. "It depends. The Uchiha clan isn't what it was during Madara's time. But the fear remains, and it's been passed down like a legacy. That's why people are making a fuss about Mikoto's appointment. To them, it's not just about her qualifications—it's a symbol. And symbols make people uneasy."
Tsunade groaned, slumping forward onto her desk. "Great. Just what I needed. More politics."
Shinki chuckled. "Welcome to leadership."
Despite her annoyance, Tsunade couldn't help but smirk. For all his teasing, Shinki had a way of making things clearer. Still, she couldn't shake the feeling that this Uchiha Madara Phobia would continue to cast its shadow over her tenure as Hokage.
