Chapter 427: Chapter 427: Danzo: Now You Say We Don’t Owe Each Other Anything?

It's not enough to rely solely on kinship. What Tsunade hopes to see is a cooperative relationship where the Daimyo Mansion and the village mutually support each other.

"Yes," Shinki said with a faint smile.

Danzo Shimura was a minor nuisance. Shinki hadn't dealt with him earlier because the timing wasn't right. But now, it was time for Danzo to serve as the scapegoat. If this old man had to run, so be it.

For the sake of the village's peace and stability, Shimura Danzo was about to be sacrificed.

"Leave it to you," Tsunade said. "I'll return from the Daimyo Mansion as soon as I can."

When something this significant happened in the village, Tsunade couldn't afford to be her usual carefree self.

Though naturally lazy and accustomed to letting others like the Third Hokage manage the village's affairs, Tsunade would step in when it truly mattered.

She might avoid meddling in the village's internal workings, but representing it to the outside world? That was non-negotiable.

In the quiet courtyard of the Shimura clan, Danzo Shimura was calmly brewing tea as usual. His desk was cluttered with books and scrolls.

Hearing commotion outside, Danzo's expression hardened. "I said, I'm not meeting anyone."

Koharu, who had climbed over the wall to enter the courtyard, twitched at the corners of her eyes.

You, Danzo Shimura, are still so proud? Putting on airs at a time like this?

Whether or not you can save your life is still up in the air, yet you're acting as if nothing has happened.

If the Third Hokage hadn't asked her personally, Koharu wouldn't have bothered to come. After all, she had her own troubles to deal with.

"Snort!"

Pushing open the door with a heavy hand, Koharu marched inside. Seeing Danzo casually making tea, she couldn't hold back her anger.

"Danzo! How can you just sit here drinking tea when the village is in chaos? Do you even understand the mess you've caused? You're lucky to still be alive!"

"Stop talking nonsense," Danzo retorted dismissively, his tone as stiff as ever.

Koharu froze, momentarily stunned, then let out a bitter laugh.

"Fine! I'm talking nonsense, am I? I came here to tell you to leave Konoha immediately. Shinki is about to come for you. If you don't want to die, get moving!"

Danzo squinted, his calm demeanor finally cracking. "What do you mean? Shinki is coming after me?"

"Exactly," Koharu sneered. "You'd better run for your life, Danzo, because if you stay, you're as good as dead."

Danzo's face darkened. The weight of Koharu's words settled over him, and he realized the gravity of the situation.

"Now, excuse me," Koharu said, turning to leave.

Before she could take another step, Danzo moved with surprising speed, blocking her path. His voice was sharp and laced with menace.

"Tell me what's going on, or I'll kill you right here."

Danzo's eyes gleamed with murderous intent, and Koharu felt a chill run down her spine. She realized he wasn't bluffing.

"You want to kill me?" Koharu chuckled darkly. "Go ahead. If you do, you'll be signing your own death warrant too."

Danzo's gaze didn't waver. "What happened?"

Koharu crossed her arms and sighed. "Do you really not know? You sent assassins to target the nobles of the Daimyo Mansion. They retaliated by exposing your embezzlement of village funds. Now, the Daimyo is furious, and Tsunade has taken the Hokage seal to negotiate directly with the Daimyo. The Third Hokage has accepted his fate and plans to retire quietly. But you, Danzo, Shinki hates you so much he's going to make sure you don't get the same luxury."

Danzo clenched his fists.

How had things escalated so quickly?

Koharu shook her head as she left. "Danzo, take care of yourself. You're going to need it."

Realizing the urgency of the situation, Danzo returned to his quarters and changed into a combat uniform. He grabbed a few sealed scrolls, prepared for travel, and left through a hidden passage beneath his courtyard.

Danzo wasn't just running away—he needed answers.

Night had fallen by the time Danzo reached the Hokage's office. Inside, the Third Hokage sat alone, staring at an untouched stack of papers. He sighed as the door opened.

"You're late," the Third Hokage said, not looking up.

Danzo stepped inside, his face twisted with anger. "Is it really this bad?"

The Third Hokage picked up his pipe, lit it, and took a long puff. "Yes, Danzo. Leave tonight. I'll ensure you're not pursued."

Danzo gritted his teeth. "After everything I've done for you, is this all I get?"

The Third Hokage exhaled a cloud of smoke. "Danzo, you've taken risks and made sacrifices for me. I've protected you and fought for you. But now, we owe each other nothing. Leave."

Danzo's expression darkened further. The words stung more than he expected.

For years, he had worked in the shadows, carrying out orders and taking the blame for the Third Hokage. He had believed that their fates were intertwined.

But now, it seemed that bond had been severed.

"Nothing?" Danzo muttered bitterly.

The Third Hokage didn't respond. He simply looked away, the weight of their shared history pressing down on him.
