Chapter 159: Chapter 159: Plundered Reward – Kamui!
"Not a bad ability," Mirai remarked calmly, though inwardly he was on high alert.
It was no exaggeration to call Kamui the most powerful Mangekyō Sharingan technique. Without his spatial awareness talent or exceptional reflexes, his neck would have been snapped in an instant.
For a technique to pose a life-threatening danger to him without reaching the Six Paths level, it could only be Kamui.
While Mirai pondered this, Obito was already panicking.
Before arriving, Obito had dismissed Mirai as insignificant. True, Mirai's talent was exceptional, but it was limited to that. Without the power of the Rinnegan, even with a Mangekyō Sharingan, his strength could only advance so far.
In Obito's eyes, his Mangekyō ability was far superior. Plus, he had the advantage of Hashirama cells, granting him resilience beyond Mirai's reach.
Even with Konoha under his control, Mirai's grasp of its secrets was merely superficial. Through White Zetsu, Obito had thoroughly analyzed Mirai's abilities.
Victory was assured—so he had believed.
Yet, within moments, his techniques were dissected with precision. His opponent had paid no more than a few dozen kunai to achieve this.
The memory stirred the same dread he once felt under Mirai's dominance in the Academy.
"Why? Why does he still overpower me? I have the Mangekyō Sharingan, the inheritance of Uchiha Madara, and the support of Zetsu. Why does this bastard still bring such overwhelming pressure?"
His hands clenched in frustration, Obito prepared for another assault. But then, his gaze fell upon the kunai scattered on the ground—peculiar in shape. His mind flashed back to how Mirai evaded Kamui earlier.
"Flying Thunder God Technique?!"
Before the thought settled, Mirai appeared in front of him, sword in hand, slashing toward Obito's neck.
Obito smirked, extending his hand to activate Kamui. The instant Mirai's strike failed, he would pull him into the Kamui dimension.
"Foolish," he muttered.
The blade gleamed, slicing through the air.
A moment later, Obito's severed head hit the ground, his wide-eyed shock frozen in death.
"What just happened? I activated intangibility! How did his attack still land?"
[ Ding! Congratulations, Host! Reward plundered: Mental Strength +1. ]
Mirai frowned slightly. "Only a single point of Mental Strength. Not great luck."
But there were still opportunities.
With his Byakugan, Mirai noticed two transplanted three-tomoe Sharingan in Obito's possession. Including his own eyes, that left four potential uses of Izanagi.
The first use had already been spent.
Moments later, Obito's body disappeared and reappeared on a nearby plain.
No sooner had he materialized than he unleashed a Wind Release jutsu to scatter the Flying Thunder God Technique-marked kunai and memorized their positions.
"That was too close," he muttered. "If not for Izanagi, I'd be a headless corpse right now."
Uncertain how Mirai's attack bypassed his Kamui, Obito resolved to maintain distance and attack from range. He activated Kamui once more, targeting Mirai with a spatial distortion.
But the moment Kamui locked on, Mirai vanished.
"Where will he reappear?" Obito scanned the battlefield, his Mangekyō Sharingan whirring as he tracked each kunai.
Pain suddenly pierced his chest.
He looked down to see a blade protruding through him, its icy glow glinting with malice.
A taunting voice reached his ears. "This is Flying Thunder God Technique: Second Step."
(Second Step: Minato first throws a Flying Thunder God Kunai, be it a direct attack at his opponent; once the kunai has reached close proximity to the target, or even past them, he would then teleport to the said kunai, immediately attacking his target from their blind-spot.)
Obito collapsed lifelessly, his second death staining the ground red.
[ Ding! Congratulations, Host! Reward plundered: Kamui! ]
Mirai's expression brightened with excitement.
"Got it!" he muttered, feeling the rush of power surging through him.
Now, only the intangibility ability remained. If he could plunder that, he'd finally achieve the dual Kamui he'd longed for since before crossing into this world.
Obito reappeared once more, but his desperation was palpable. Without hesitation, he activated his intangibility upon reviving.
He had lost two lives. His confidence, once unshakable, had been shattered.
"This was supposed to be my moment of triumph," he thought bitterly. "No! I am the savior of this world. I can't lose now."
Suppressing his terror, Obito focused on maintaining his intangibility.
As long as he didn't expose any openings, Mirai would be powerless against him. With dual Kamui in his arsenal, he believed he still held the advantage.
However, Mirai appeared beside him once more.
"This time!" Obito vowed, his nerves taut as he kept his focus entirely on Mirai.
If he waited for the right moment, he could turn the tide in an instant.
"Rasengan!"
Mirai's attack passed harmlessly through Obito's intangible form. Seizing his chance, Obito reached for Mirai.
"It's over."
But as his hand closed in, searing pain erupted in his chest. He stared down at the gaping hole where his heart had been.
"How? I was intangible the entire time!"
Obito's eyes widened in disbelief as he met Mirai's gaze. The crimson Mangekyō Sharingan glowed ominously.
A horrifying realization struck him.
"His ocular powers… can he replicate other Mangekyō abilities?!"
